| American Idol Season 7 S. Carolina Auditions Recap - Jan 23, 2008 2008-01-23 20:06:24
Tonight the American Idol auditions head across the country for a little southern hospitality. Simon, Paula, and Randy are in Charleston, South Carolina to see what the south has to offer. Of course if you had to judge based solely on the auditions they showed on the air it wouldn’t seem like the south had much but it seems that this year in particular they are really focusing on the awful auditions. Each night I think we’ve gotten to see maybe 20% of the people headed to Hollywood. I will say that while Charleston had its fair share of awful singers I tended to find them less irritating than the wackos we’ve seen in the other cities.
The couple who met on the American Idol message boards were cute. They obviously were allowed to sing in front of Randy, Paula, and Simon because they had such a cute American Idol related story. It certainly wasn’t because they could sing. Jeffery and Michelle Lambkin, were a surprise. When were interviewed, I figured this auditi |
| American Idol 2008-01-23 17:54:00 Hot off the heels of UK talent series X-Factor, American Idol has launched on to our screens in the UK this week. The series premiered a couple of days earlier in the states that it was aired in the UK where it is a weekly ratings winner on Fox and in a prime time slot. Here in the UK we have to tune in to ITV 2 to catch the first screenings at a decent hour or wait and hope that it is shown during the day on the main ITV channel.I think it is brilliant to be able to see talents shows from different countries as by watching them we can make general assessments about talent levels in comparison with our own nation and know if we are falling behind.I feel American Idol has a very different feel to UK shows like X-Factor. On American idol when they show the audition stage its edited together in a way which makes you think that all the auditionees think they are great and that the judges expect to have quality performers in front of them. As soon as they get in to the audition though it’ |

| American Idol Season 7 S. Carolina Auditions Preview - Jan 23, 2008 2008-01-23 10:00:08
Last night the San Diego auditions gave us 31 contestants headed for Hollywood. Not bad. Tonight, Simon, Paula, and Randy head down to South Carolina to see what the South has to offer. Last season, 4 of the final 12 were from the South and the year before that 8 of the 12 were Southerners. As a result, I have high hopes for tonight. I’m sure we’ll have the usual assortment of crazies but, I’m counting on the South to represent again. In any case, I’ll be watching tonight to see if our American Idol judges can find another big batch of contestants to send to Hollywood.
On a side thought, does anyone else feel like we’re getting lopsided with more women heading to Hollywood than men? Not that I’m opposed to that or anything. Maybe it’s just has more to do with the fact that we don’t get to see all 20 or 30 people from each audition stop who move on, so when it comes time to select who to show they decide the pretty blondes are more |

| American Idol Season 7 San Diego Auditions Recap - January 22, 2008 2008-01-22 20:19:00
San Diego greeted the American Idol judges with lots of love. In addition they were lucky enough to stay at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. I say that only because I’ve stayed at there before which and its pretty nice even though its a ways outside of San Diego. Through out the crowd there were signs everywhere like I love Paula and Randy’s my Dawg! Unfortunately the judges didn’t share the love for San Diego. San Diego really irritated Simon. He was especially nasty and impatient tonight. To be fair, I cannot believe that Monique chick is so delusional that she actually thinks that she can sing. Maybe those sweet (not!) boots Simon was wearing were pinching his toes and making him irritable. Day 1 in San Diego did end well for Simon though. The final audition of the day, Samantha Musa, just loved Simon. She liked his bad boy image. She was pretty cute except for the sore on her lip. I was happy to see her just because she was one of the only auditions that were worth w |

American Idol returns tonight with another round of auditions. This time, Randy, Paula, and Simon are in San Diego to see what kind of talent and terrors the west coast has to offer. Considering the number of crazies that showed up in Texas last week I can only imagine what we might get tonight in Southern California! I’m still trying to burn the image of the fat guy in the Princess Leia bikini from my memory (That which has been seen cannot be unseen). On the other hand I think we also have a shot at getting some significant talent as well. Philadelphia and Dallas each had more than 20 singers sent on to Hollywood. I would hope that Southern California would do at least as well. Guess we’ll have to wait until tonight to find out.
Anyone wondering how many semi-pros we’ll see scattered in the auditions tonight? Considering all of those that got in last week I think we’ll have plenty more follow up stories where we’ll discover the Idol hopeful has al |

| American Idol in Dallas 2008-01-17 10:59:12
I watched American Idol last night, this time the auditions were in Dallas. They say everthing is BIG in Texas and some of the contestants sure were. But, in my opinion there wasn’t alot of talent on display. Most of the ’singers’ sang as though they were in pain. One contestant actually compared herself to Celine Dion if you can believe it. So, I figured if she compares herself to Celine Dion, how bad can she be, right? Well, she was REALLY bad! I could be wrong; but I don’t see the next American Idol coming from this bunch. Even most of the ones that advance, I had the feeling that Randy and Paula especially were just being toooo nice to let them slide on through to the next round. Well, I guess the good news is that the quality of the contestants can only get better - right?! |
| American Idol Season 7 Dallas Auditions Recap - January 16, 2008 2008-01-16 20:58:58
Whew, Dallas definitely had its rough spots. That Douglas dude was pretty scary. Even Paula was ran out of patience with this guy. I was at work late tonight so I didn’t have any patience for him either. He couldn’t sing and his only talent seemed to be wondering around aimlessly mumbling to himself. If he had sung the stalker song to Paula we heard last night I would have called the cops. Yeah, he was that scary. In the end the big security gorillas had to escort him from the judges presence because he wouldn’t even listen to them. The chick who followed him in Angela Ryan, was really awful too. She was really hot which is good for her because she can’t carry a tune in a bucket as the saying goes. She had obviously damaged her husband’s hearing because he thought she was good.
There were a few folks who made it to Hollywood who were questionable at best. The third strike was the weird politician kid. Just for future reference his name was Kyle Ensle |
| American Idol Premier 2008-01-16 17:22:33
Last night was the premier of the seventh season of American Idol. The stage was Philadelphia and the City of Brotherly Love sure did produce a motley crew of contestants. In my opinion most of the contestant were more funny than talented, perhaps a new comic star in the making? Really though, I love watching the auditions at this stage as you never know what or who is just behind the curtain ready to bore Simon, Paula and Randy to tears. I must say that while Simon Cowell is the man that America loves to hate (not really hate), I like him. Most of what Simon does is all show and this is after all television entertainment. I’m looking forward to watching tonight’s show and seeing some more outrageous ‘talents’. |

| American Idol Season 7 Auditions - Jan 15, 2008 2008-01-15 21:01:54
Its Back! American Idol Season 7 kicked off tonight with auditions in Philadelphia. It didn’t take long for the judges to get into their usual form. Randy was laughing hysterically, Paula staring in wonder, and Simon… well lets just say Simon was Simon. He hasn’t changed one bit. Randy has the beard going this season which makes him look a little sinister.
It didn’t take long for them to find some good candidates who got themselves a golden ticket to Hollywood. In fact by the end of day 2 they had found 29 contestants headed for Hollywood. I remember in the old days when you actually weren’t sure if a contestant was going to make it or not. They always give it away now. They always do a short segment on their story just before a good contestant is about to go in to audition. For example we got to see Kristy Lee Cook practice her Mixed Marshal Arts and ride her horses. Obviously if they spent that much time taping her at home out west she was going t |
| American Idol Returns Tonight; Can It Make A Star This Season? 2008-01-15 11:18:30
American Idol returns tonight on FOX (8/7c) with a two hour premiere and the big job of trying to turn out a mega star as its winner. Allegedly the list of Top 50 Spoilers was leaked, so we may or may not have an idea of who will be up for the coveted top spot and record deal. While winning American Idol is no easy task it seems to be the real challenge lately is turning that winner into a bona fide pop culture superstar.
Sure, everyone involved wants another Carrie Underwood, but most would settle for a top billboard ranker that doesn’t get dropped from J Records after his or her first album. In recent weeks the news has hit that Taylor Hicks was recently dropped from J Records while Ruben Studdard quietly vanished from their line-up months ago. Then there’s Jordin Sparks who broke onto the billboard ratings in 10th place with less than half the sales (119K vs 298K, opening week) of her predecessor, Hicks. While that’s obviously still an impressive feat I&rsquo |
| American Idol’s Taylor Hicks Dropped From J Records 2008-01-09 12:36:42
Despite Taylor Hicks’ ability to go platinum with his 2006 debut album “Taylor Hicks” following his win on American Idol Season 6 he has been dropped from his label, J Records. Hicks isn’t the only American Idol winner to be dropped either as J Records revealed Ruben Studdard would also be joining him on the plank walk. Apparently Studdard had been dropped months and months ago, but not even that made newslines until now.
“Taylor is going to record on his own for the next album,” J Records’ Liz Morentin wrote in an email Monday. “Ruben Studdard is still signed to 19 Entertainment [the production/management company behind Idol], and is currently working on his new album, however it will not be distributed by J Records.”
I guess that just goes to show all those haters who said Hicks wasn’t a big star are finally proven wrong. Wait, what? Last season’s winner, Jordin Sparks, could be following a similar path as her |
