American Idol is “Going to Disney World!”
Yesterday, Disney announced that it is jumping on the American Idol bandwagon. Disney will be adding an American Idol ‘attraction’ to its Hollywood Studios theme park at Disney World in Florida. The announcement was made jointly by Jay Rasulo, chairman of Disney Parks and Resorts, Simon Fuller, CEO of 19 Entertainment (American Idol creator) and Keith Hindle, executive vice president of FremantleMedia Licensing. Slated to debut in late 2008,the attraction will follow the model of the high-energy show. Disney guests will be able to experience the challenge of auditioning, the rush of performing on stage in competition, or the thrill of judging the performances in a live interactive entertainment setting with all the glitz and glamor of the distinctive American Idol set. That experience will include an audition process, open to all who register, where guests perform “live” in video kiosks in full view of a panel of screeners. Singers who pass this screening test will mov
American Idol Final Audition Night
Well the last of the nationwide auditions are over and now 164 contestants will move on to Hollywood.  As usual it was another weird night of auditions.  One blonde contestant did poorly; but then Randy and Paula both felt she sounded alot like Dolly Parton and insisted that she go out, learn a Dolly Parton song and come back.  She did and they voted her on to Hollywood.  Simon begrudingly admitted that Randy and Paula were right.  There was a gorgeous blonde that couldn’t sing; but had a cute Pomeranian puppy that Simon just loved.  The puppy won a trip to Hollywood; but the blonde didn’t.
American Idol Season 7 Final Auditions Recap - Feb 6, 2008
Tonight was the final night of auditions. This was a combination of the best and worst auditions from across the country. Now being a pessimist, I expected there to be far more in the worst category than the best. It turned out there was a nice mix a both. So here’s what we saw: Best: Amy Davis from Indiana sang Blue Bayou. She had a pretty face as well as a pretty voice and is going to Hollywood. Worst: Tiffany McCampbell said her voice was a gift from God. She sang a gospel song called Hallelujah. The best thing I can say was it was loud. I’m surprised Simon’s ears didn’t start bleeding. I hope she got a gift receipt. Worst: The twins from North Carolina who shared a girlfriend were a little weird. The dual audition where the one beatboxed while the other forgot the lyrics to their rap song was pretty lame. Their girlfriend Ashley, tried to bribe Simon by giving him her dog Panda. Simon loved the dog but hated the singing. Outside of her ear shot even the
American Idol in Atlanta
Well, last night the American Idol crew took its roadshow to the deepsouth and Atlanta, Georgia.  Did they find a ‘peach’?  Only time will tell; but the judges did advance nineteen of the contestants on to Hollywood.  Did you see the guy with a spinning hubcap around his neck?  That was different. And you thought waiting in line to see a movie was bad?!  Check out this line:

American Idol Season 7 Atlanta Auditions Recap - Feb 5, 2008
Tonight was the South’s second chance to show what its made of. Charleston, South Carolina, did the South Proud, now it is Georgia’s turn. The American Idol auditions were down in Atlanta, GA. Tonight was definitely a story of the good, the bad, and the ugly. The first three contestants were the perfect example: one who was going to Hollywood and shouldn’t have been, one who shouldn’t ever be allowed to sing again, and one who was absolutely brilliant. Joshua Jones, the demonic-eyed, glass cutter, was the first to get a golden ticket. I really didn’t like him. His eyes bugged out whenever he sings to the point where the judges made him sing with his back to them. My big problem with him though was his voice. He was a little too breathy and it almost seemed like his voice was about to crack. JP the next contestant had auditioned in Season 4 and sat just two seats away from Carrie Underwood. He didn’t make it in Season 4 and he didn’t make it in
American Idol Season 7 Atlanta Auditions Preview - Feb 5, 2008
This is it, the final week of auditions then we are on to Hollywood. The commercials during the Super Bowl implied that Hollywood started tonight. Hopefully not too many people will be disappointed when they are in Atlanta, Georgia instead. The one interesting fact revealed in the commercials was that 164 hopefuls were sent to Hollywood. The narrowing of the field actually begins next week. Make sure you tune in to the auditions tonight. You don’t want to miss Ryan in a big yellow hat or… well… this guy. It just amazes me what some people will do for attention. Most of them on national TV. See you tonight. American Idol at the Super Bowl: How Much Is Too Much?
I know after yesterday’s NY Giants upset or the New England Patriots, the question in everyone’s mind is, “Could FOX have possibly plugged American Idol any more during the Super Bowl?” American Idol is arguably the most popular show on Network Television every spring. So was it really necessary to American Idol push it so heavily during the Super Bowl pre-game festivities? The primary American Idol tie-ins were during the Super Bowl red carpet. Which begs the question, ‘Do we really need a red carpet at the Super Bowl?’ The short answer is no. I know that with nothing sports related on TV for two weeks except for Super Bowl analysis and the Winter X Games that the teams have been sized up every possible way. I still like to watch it that as part of the pre-game show to help me get geared up. I’m not interested in which celebrities are there or what they are wearing. Now that I’ve ranted about the red carpet, I’ll get back to the t
American Idol Star Gets Hitched
Singer/actress Katharine McPhee married producer Nick Cokas on Saturday in Beverly Hills; her rep has confirmed to People. The 23-year-old American Idol season five runner-up and Cokas, 42, exchanged vows in a late afternoon ceremony at Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church.Kat told People, "(Nick) is the love of my life. This is a once in a lifetime occasion and everything is just perfect."The pair became friends when they met in 2005. Their relationship became more serious when Kat auditioned for American Idol later that year.
American Idol in Miami
Well it was on to Miami for last night’s American Idol auditions. It showed Simon and Randy riding up an escalator when they first arrived and Simon asks “where are we”? He seemed to be suffering from jet lag. As for the show only 17 contestants were selected to go to Hollywood; but some of them did seem really talented. The women contestants especially seemed really good, while not too many men were picked. One contestant (forget her name) I thought was really good and had been on the American Juniors show four years ago as a 12 year old. She had a good voice and seemed really polished and professional. I figured she was a shoe-in for moving on to Hollywood; but all three judges said “no”, and she was dismissed. Simon tried to make it sound like she was too rehearsed and she said she had practiced “in front of a mirror”; but excuse me, I thought the whole idea was to be polished and prepared. Anyhow, it seems that somehow she was too good and
American Idol Season 7 Miami Auditions Recap - Jan 30, 2008
Tonight, American Idol welcomed us to Miami with the Miami Vice theme song. I wonder why Ryan was wearing socks. I liked Omaha’s Crop Circle better. Miami’s turn out was just as strong as Miami’s with over 10,000 singers in line looking to be the next American Idol. Simon and Randy liked the way Paula turned out. Her tiny leopard print skirt got both of them excited. Simon actually called it ‘very slutty’ (Tactful as always Simon). Randy definitely had the Miami Vice thing goin’ on. He was sporting the fire engine red loafers with no socks. Shannon McGough the belching butcher the outfit she selected was frightening. She looked like she picked through Madonna’s dumpster. She was shocked when the judges told her she really couldn’t sing. Randy went so far as to call her tone deaf. Yikes. Thats bad when it comes from Randy. The first Hollywood bound hopeful was Robbie Carrico the former boy bander who was now supposed to be a rocker. Even
American Idol in Omaha
Host Ryan Seacrest sat in as a judge for Paula Abdul who was MIA. Well, in my opinion, at least there was *some* talent in Omaha, the same can’t be said for Charleston, South Carolina. Paula finally shows up and just in time for many of the auditioners to forget the lyrics. As usual it was quite a motley crew that showed up for the auditions. There was even one former pro wrestler, although they got voted off the show. You can catch American Idol tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
American Idol Season 7 Miami Auditions Preview - Jan 30, 2008
Randy, Simon, and Paula have been rollin’ out the golden tickets to Hollywood. Last night we saw them hand out another 19 in a single day audition in Omaha Nebraska. Based on what they showed us last night those 19 seemed pretty strong. I’m looking forward to when the show transitions to Hollywood to see how all of these American Idol aspirants handle the pressure. This season I have noticed an increase in the number of auditions with a I wonder if Carrie Underwood’s success has motivated more country singers to try out or if it has influenced the producers and the judges to take more potential country stars. I seem to recall in the first few seasons Simon washing people out during the auditions because they sounded too country and not pop enough. Auditions held in Nebraska, South Carolina, and Texas would likely to produce more country singers anyway than say California. I want to see how many country singers make it to the final twelve. I’m betting on at le
American Idol’s Nebraska Crop Circle
Remember the Welcome to Omaha Crop Circle with the American Idol logo you saw at the start of last night’s audition show? I’m not sure how you could miss it. It was 5 acres across! The welcome, dubbed by American Idol as Omaha’s “Big Reveal” was officially extended Tuesday night from hundreds of feet in the air during the national broadcast of American Idol’s Omaha auditions show. “We came up with the idea to have our agency make a crop circle to greet American Idol to our city,” says Jennifer Windrum, public relations manager at Swanson Russell Associates. “We were in discussions with American Idol for a separate project and told senior producer, Patrick Lynn, to be on the look-out for our green and yellow message. To our surprise, Lynn said, “You’ve got to be kidding me. I’m a crop circle freak. If you guys can pull this off, I want to use it in my show.” “American Idol’s interest in our crop circle, potentially using it as the opening sh
American Idol Season 7 Omaha Auditions Recap - Jan 29, 2008
Tonight the American Idol auditions were from Omaha, Nebraska. After some of the craziness we had seen on the west coast and down South, I had hoped that we might get some more level headed contestants from the Midwest. Yeh, well… so much for that idea. The craziness actually started with the judges. Paula’s plan was late so Randy and Simon had to get started without her. The first kid in the room, Chris Bernheisel, was in tears before he even started singing because he was so grateful that the Idol auditions came to Nebraska. After showing Randy and Simon his pictures of he and Kelly Clarkson, he proceeded to butcher one of her songs. Randy and Simon did decide to let him help host the red carpet at the finals show. Hopefully he gets a little Ritalin before then. Omaha actually brought some talent. Jason Rich a part time farmhand from Iowa was so nervous he forgot the words. Simon was actually coaching him with the lyrics. Simon and Randy must have been in a great m

American Idol Season 7 Omaha Auditions Preview - Jan 29, 2008
The American Idol judges did pretty well last week. They sent 31 from San Diego and 23 from Charleston to Hollywood last week. Tonight Randy, Paula, and Simon head to Omaha, Nebraska to take in a new set of auditions. This is the Midwest’s chance to step up and show America that they’ve got talent. Oh wait, that’s a different show. Most of the people we actually see tonight won’t have any talent anyway so it really doesn’t matter. Usually I enjoy the audition shows but this season, I’m looking forward to the end of the auditions. When they get to Hollywood thats when the cuts will begin in earnest. Then we can get our 12 finalists and the real show can begin. While overall the auditions have been somewhat discouraging it has been interesting to notice how I don’t get the feeling of regional vibes. Each location each week seems to offer a similar feel. Maybe its silly to expect a different set of performers considering we aren’t on the
American Idol in Charleston
Well at the end of the American Idol Charleston tryouts, the natives seemed more than a bit restless.  Downright hostile I would say.  It turned out that out of over 10,000 people that showed up for the auditions, only 23 moved on to Hollywood!  That might be an all-time low record for number of contestants to pass their audition.  After perhaps one too many Simon comments about the lack of quality in the Charleston contestants, many of the rejected contestants could be seen tearing up their American Idol paperwork.  Safe to say that I don’t think that the American Idol show will be back to Charleston anytime soon; perhaps never…

American Idol: Ford Commercial Ruins 16 Idol Finalists’ Secret
While we already heard the list of American Idol 2008’s Top 50 Finalist spoilers, but this next spoiler really breaks it down another step and you can thank Ford. Every week in last year’s American Idol weekly eliminations we were treated to a poorly disguised non-commercial commercial for Ford Motors. Looks like those plans haven’t changed one bit and they’re even moving them up earlier this year according to the Pasadena Star: A cloak of secrecy hung over the filming of an “American Idol” segment on the rainy steps of City Hall early Tuesday morning. About 16 of the talent-show contestants - no one from Fox television would say exactly how many - were filmed emerging from their cars and going up City Hall’s steps. No one would say why. Ariel Penn, who heads the city’s film office, said she believed the Fox show might have used City Hall as a substitute for the Civic Auditorium. Normally, Penn said, the finalists audition in the
