| Women in Advertising - A Controversy 2007-12-05 00:41:00 In advertising, ‘women being used like a piece of meat’ is an old debate. Some say they sell values, images, and concepts of success and worth, love and sexuality, popularity and normalcy. Some others say they sell addictions, particularly to adolescents who are new and inexperienced consumers and are the prime targets of many advertisements. They are in the process of learning their values and roles and developing their self-concepts. Most teenagers are sensitive to peer pressure and find it difficult to resist or even question the messages perpetuated and reinforced by women. Now, a new change is coming in. Feminist Naomi Wolf says that the beauty myth isn't good for men or women. "It prevents (men) from actually seeing women... in suggesting a vision in place of a woman, it has a numbing effect, reducing all sense but the visual..."That's a fairly poignant statement regarding the numbification of society because marketing images portray impossible-to-achieve beauty and the repr |

Perché probabilemente sei out.

| Big Advertising 2007-11-10 17:59:00 There has been a push over the last week to have store owners remove large signs from their business. A bylaw passed last year states that advertisements must be less than 12 feet long. The law has places such as the Freak Lunchhouse on Barrington Street upset.
Small business owners claim they will loose money due to the lack of exposure. Some owners believe that the law should be changed to reflect how the sign looks as opposed to it's size. The problem with that is there is no way to regulate the law. What looks out of place to one person could be perfectly fine with others.
There is so much advertising in today society. it has come to the point that unless you have a big budget, it is hard to compete. Many consumers won't go to a small store they never heard of when they can travel to a box store for the same thing. Advertising is crucial to get ahead but there does need to be some regulations in place.
The regulations should be put on the large companies to level the |

| Television-Subtle or Obvious Advertising? 2007-10-02 10:42:00 People say that picture paints a thousand words. But moving pictures as in movies, paint a million images. I am talking about advertising whether subtle or obvious in TV shows. Not so long ago, I was watching this TV drama series called Janji Diana (Diana's Promise). The movie had ADVERTISMENT written all over it. I mean there were scenes whereby the heroine was staring at the mirror for 30-60 seconds, apparently upset over some misunderstanding with her boyfriend! Talk about wasting screen time and film!Wait, I haven't said anything yet about the numerous phone calls on the hero and heroine's mobile phones. Of course, they have to be the sleek Motorola Razr V3 ones. The heroine again need to spend countless minutes staring at her phone and if it is her boyfriend, sometimes she wants him to call and other times she refused to take his calls, she must then give the appropriate expressions.Besides our local drama series, I sometimes watched those Korean and Japanese movies that were a |

| Google Gives Consumers the Choice in Advertising Data 2007-09-28 12:33:00 Can you imagine a day when companies could track what kind of information you are looking for and whether or not you read this information? For business owners they would have the time of their life sending you products, services and information that are catered to your real interest. For many consumers they will feel as though corporations are steeling your information. Every time you click on Google’s search engines they track your information and send you advertisements related specifically to your interests. This is all done automatically through Google’s extensive computing power. Customers see advertisements that are specifically catered to their interests. Since so many consumers are weary and unsure of people invading their electronic privacy. Google may be offering consumers a choice in the whole matter by allowing them to opt out of any tracking that Google may be doing. This is putting the power in the hands of the consumer who want to control how much privacy they desir |
| Advertising has raised Facebook’s value into the Billions 2007-09-25 13:10:00 Microsoft and Google are pondering the future of Facebook and its potential 10 billion dollars of worth on the open market. Microsoft was considering a 300 to 500 million dollar offer for only a 5% stake in the company. Facebook is currently owned in private and could potentially make the owner very wealthy. There is a belief that Facebook is here to stay. It is not considered a simple social networking site but may actually be a serious operating system that could potentially challenge more established search engines like Google or Netscape. Facebook is here to stay for the near future. One of the biggest attractors to face book is that it not only has hundreds of millions of users but that it is a perfect place for advertisers to get the word out about their products. It is an advertising juggernaught that is likely to continue into the near future. As people become concentrated into single websites more and more advertisers will also be attracted to these websites. That will drive u |
| Advertising $$ Slumps 2007-09-24 12:04:13 Not terribly surprising, MarketingVOX is reporting that advertising budgets all across the US were slashed during the first quarter of 2007. Also not terribly surprising is that whereas advertising spending slumped in every normal sector of the economy, Internet advertising jumped by over 20% during that same period.
“US ad spend in the first half of 2007 was down 0.5 percent over the year-earlier period, with internet ad spend - up 23.6 percent - outperforming other media, according to preliminary figures from Nielsen, MarketingCharts reports.”
Many reasons probably attribute to this trend, but chief amongst them I would argue is the relative inexpensive nature, coupled with the ease and variety of opportunity associated with internet advertising that more traditional advertising markets do not offer. Underlying most of this is obviously an overall downturn in most sectors of the economy which lends a premium to “cheaper” or more affordable advertising b |
| Web2.0 - radio measures advertising 2007-09-17 04:13:45 Sigh – what a wonderful smile crossed my face when, last night, while driving around on a frantic mission to find my father a birthday present (sorry Dad) I heard radio DJ, Euphonik on 5fm offering prizes for a massive party. All he asked was for listeners to add him as a friend on Facebook then write on his wall. He also punted his show’s Facebook group, MY HOUSE::::5FM::::THE HOUSE OF HOUSE.
Genius! Radio (along with other offline mediums) advertisers have long grappled with the problem of measuring the response to campaigns on their listenership. Using this, already a mainstream social networking tool, provides the DJ with the interaction tool to communicate and engage on a personal level with his listeners (exactly what a DJ looks to do).
This is marketing at its best – I wish I had had an Internet connection to look at his friend count directly after the broadcast and then later to see how the public respond (looking at his friend count now he has over 850 fri |
