Was Sin a Mistake??
2007-03-16 01:19:45
Any thoughtful Christian has stumbled over the question, “Why did an all powerful God permit sin? Why does sin exist?”
Before I go on to “answer” that question, let me affirm that we humans have limited minds and limited abilities to grasp such “why” questions. Ultimately, God is the potter and can do what He wants. But there are some Biblically faithful answers to these questions.
The Standard Answer
The standard, or typical evangelical answer goes like this. God wanted to have people who truly loved Him. He wanted to share fellowship with created beings. He wanted this so much, he was willing to risk the presence of sin to make us. He did not want to make mere robots, but creatures with a free will. So although God knew sin was going to happen, and He knew sin would have devastating effects on His creation, He was willing to allow it in order to have some people love him freely. He died to save as many as would come. God wants all to come and desir ...

Welcome to Fundamentally Reformed 3.0!
2007-03-15 06:24:19
I don’t know about you, but I was sick of olive green! So now I’ll have to get used to orange. But I think I like the new design. I really like my new logo. And I love having 2 sidebars.
I took this redesign-time to go ahead and update my sidebar a bit. I still have some work to do, but I thought I’d share the design with you all. So, what do you think? Any suggestions?
I should tell you that I updated my “about” page, and added an “about me” page. You’ll find a few other improvements, too. So stick around, check it out, and let me know what you think!

?Reclaiming the Two Books of God? by Don Sailer
2007-03-14 11:56:47
351 footnotes will either make or brake a 100-page book. In this case, it is the footnotes (which document the many quotes) which make the book so interesting. The books full title is Reclaiming the Two Books of God: Restoring Moral Sanity to the Church. And the book’s author is Don Sailer. Some of you might recognize the author’s name from his interaction in the comment threads over at Sharper Iron. Yes, he is a fundamentalist, but he also has a doctorate from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and currently pastors an Evangelical Free Church, so he is not your ordinary guy.
And it takes an unordinary guy, sometimes, to take on an unpopular topic. His book focuses on the widespread rejection of Biblical authority in both church and mainstream culture. He traces the issues which led to the abandonment of Biblical inerrancy and one by one, all the cardinal doctrines of Christianity.
For such a difficult topic, the book is helped immensely by the opening discussion of th ...

The Bible & the KJVO Debate, part 6
2007-03-09 01:34:57
Note: this is another post in a series exploring how the Bible impacts the KJVO Debate. For all of the posts to date, click here.
In our last post, we finally finished off all the passages in Psalms relating to the doctrine of preservation. I know this series seems to be bogging down on the discussion of these passages, but this is important work. Take heart, there are only a few more passages on this subject, and we’ll cover most of them in this post. When we are finished dealing with the passages, we will be ready to formulate our doctrine of preservation, and then go on to what I think will be the meatier posts in this series. There is much more to come, so let’s get going.
At this point, we have seen how Ps. 119:152 and 160 teach that God’s Word is eternal, and so it seems correct to infer from this that the very text of Scripture will be preserved for us. Also, we have seen that Ps. 12:6-7 might be a general teaching that God will preserve His words, (the ...
