V.K. Narasimhan, an accomplished journalist and former editor of several leading Indian newspapers, followed his very religious wife to settle in Sai Baba ashrams in 1980. I first met him - after corresponding with him - in 1988, whereupon a close friendship began (summarised here). For about a decade, I was more of a believer in many of Sathya Sai Baba’s claims than he was and it was confusing to me that he denied that Sai Baba was omniscient or anything approaching omnipotent, that he was largely ignorant of history and science but simply picked up things from people in interviews (and repeated them to his students or in discourses afterwards, often having misunderstood the details). The authoritative website www.topuniversities.com ranks the top 400 universities in the world. Of these, there are three in India (Delhi ranked no. 254, Indian Institute of technology Bombay ranked 269 and Indian Institute of technology Delhi ranked 307. None of these universities, however rank at all as to specific subjects, nor as to peer review or citations, employer review, international staff or students, staff/student ratio. So there is unfortunately still a long way to go even for India’s best educational institutions. Newindpress have reported on the 82nd birthday, which has been played down greatly this year. “The fete was a low-key affair unlike which was used to be organised in a grand manner every year.” So it was not up to the big tamasha smashes of yesteryear. As usual Prashanthi Nilayam will no doubt be packed with people, mostly Indian villagers, on November 23rd to celebrate the 82′nd birthday of Sathya Sai Baba. There will surely be wasteful and childish light shows and fireworks to attract the gaping crowds, plus free handouts of this and that [paid for by donations]. Sathya Sai Baba Promotes ‘Human Values’

Many followers of Sathya Sai Baba think his promotion of human values is something extraordinary. Schools and voluntary projects have been started by them in various countries, and efforts are constantly made to introduce them into national educational systems. Unfortunately, the values Sathya Sai presumes to teach are not human values as such, but are clearly explained to be divine values implanted, so to speak, in the human make-up. According to him, moreover, they are “eternal, fixed” values. He has created a fixed dogma for his followers, who dare not change anything for fear of offending him (self-promoted as the Divine Creator of the divine values themselves!). Recent events in Puttaparthi and the massive interest shown by visitors to this and other exposé web pages are yet another indicator of the failing impetus of Sathya Sai Baba. Over 10,000 hits on two blogs within just over one week underlines the impact that the reported ‘failed moon miracle performance’ has had. Sathya Sai Baba has a lot to say about the moon, since it figures largely in Indian scripture and superstition in ways in which it naturally does in the culture and beliefs of all largely pre-industrial and simpler ’primitive’ societies. He identifies the moon as the ‘presiding deity of the mind’ (Sathya Sai Speaks Vol.14, p. 330 and Vol 12 p.13) , and insists that the mind is strongly influenced by its phases, that the “mind is a reflection of the moon”. (What this really means is, of course, anyone’s guess, but it probably sounds rather good to eager believers, who never are allowed to pin him or his statements’ meaning down any further). It is noteworthy how far devotees will go to try to deceive others that they have experienced Sai ‘miracles’Why they bother can be explained, for example, by the extra popularity and respect they hope to gain from other blind followers for being ‘blessed by Svami with a special darshan’ and for other selfish reasons. Well, it so happens that the moon on October 23 was not full but was still ’waxing gibbous’, as can be seen from the following image taken from the astronomical website http://stardate.org/nightsky/moon/ This shows the moon two days before full moon. Full moon did not occur until Oct 26 04:52, according to NASA. However, the falsifier who put together the deceptive image presented a completely circular moon.
