No Quarter: Native American Spirituality?
2007-10-09 19:22:00
Tonight I caught a segment on the NPR program "The Story".Quite a neat interview with the great-grandson of Sitting Bull. The interview stems from the Smithsonian Museum repatriating artifacts of Sitting Bull to his great-grandson. Kinda cool really.Until...apparently, there was a Lakota shaman accompanying the great-grandson. Well, I guess there were spirits dwelling in the museum. Attached to other artifacts and the like. According to this shaman and retinue 250 spirits followed the delegation back to the home of Sitting Bulls great-grandson. Just "hangin out" I guess. Now, how the hell did this shaman KNOW there were exactly 250 spirits? No quarter. Idiots. ...

Name: Dan If you run out in the middle of the highway and say I don't believe in trucks it doesn't mean you will not get run over. If you jump out of a window screaming "I don't believe in gravity" doesn't mean you will not get hurt. What matters is the truth. God does exist and He came as a man here on earth to pay for all of your sins. By sins I mean the Ten Commandments which are God's law. The law was made as a mirror for us. In the same way, we don't realize what a bad state we are in until we look into the "mirror" of the Ten Commandments. Have you stolen, lied, dishonored your mother and father etc. then you broke his laws and the penal ...

Just to give you all a sense of how I scored on the Belief-O-Matic quiz. I've taken this quiz a while back and thought I'd like to take it again. Maybe you readers can take it and post your results here in the comments. It's funny, the quiz comes with a disclaimer, I was crackin' up: "Warning: Belief-O-Matic™ assumes no legal liability for the ultimate fate of your soul." LOL. 1. Secular Humanism (100%) 2. One Reason Why I'm a Secularist: Christian Interference in Public Education
2007-09-30 11:07:00
Educational Research Analysts:Excerpts of the FAQ page from Mel Gablers' Educational Research Analysts: An Original Contribution to the Christian Conservative Intellectual RenaissanceQ: How do your ratings impact textbook sales so much?A: Local schools respect our work. We absolutely document all we say. Texas itself cannot match our thoroughness. (We took eight months of quality time to critique five 1999-copyright high school World History books that averaged 1000 pages each.) Our academically rigorous standard textbook review criteria correlate with the state curriculum. We offer valuable info free.Q: Where does Texas rank in national influence on textbooks?A: Texas state-adopts textbooks at all grade levels, California only through Grade 8. Texas therefore most influences high school textbooks, and is second only to California in influencing Grades K-8. Other states should always demand the Texas edition of a book if there is one; and if there is no Texas edition it is probably an ...

Response to a Deleted Comment: Exegete Truth: Are you saved? (got this response in my mail)
2007-09-23 17:49:00
So I'll restrain myself the best I can. Why does the name Jesus anger you? It's existentialist. (existentialism) a loss of personal identity; a feeling of being an anonymous cog in an impersonal social machine (food for thought) do you accept evolution or the sciences? No and Yes, To clarify there are two types of science, one we benefit from.1. Operation science uses the so-called "scientific method" to attempt to discover truth, performing observable, repeatable experiments in a controlled environment to find patterns of recurring behavior in the present physical universe. For example, we can test gravity, study the spread of disease, or observe speciation in the lab or in the wild. Both creationists and evolutionists use this kind of science, which has given rise to computers, space shuttles, and cures for diseases.2. Origin science attempts to discover truth by examining reliable eyewitness testimony (if available); and circumstantial evidence, such as pottery, fossils, ...

Larry Craig Gets Help from the ACLU?
2007-09-19 05:27:00
Embattled Senator Larry Craig may have found an unlikely friend in the American Civil Liberties Union. The New York-based organization came out in support of the Idaho Republican today by submitting a friend-of-the-court brief to a Minnesota District Court urging it to allow Craig to withdraw his guilty plea because the secret sting operation used to arrest him was likely unconstitutional. In its brief, the ACLU said the government can arrest people for soliciting public sex only if it can show beyond doubt that the sex was to occur in public.Atheist Blogroll search:"Larry Craig""Larry Craig" ACLU ...

Comment response on Atheist Haven
2007-09-12 19:02:00
Source: ATHEIST HAVEN: Part 2- Inventing Your Own ReligionSorry, I didn't read this post (I'll get to it.)I was directed here by my Tina (my mom).Shaun said: "...when parents and preachers and Sunday schools screw up, the result is a bunch of hell bound atheists..."How would you then explain those atheists who've never once grew up in a Christian lifestyle? I never went to church until I met my wife (I hated it and saw it exactly for what it was worth; a sham). I was 24 then (11 years ago).I never "grew up in the church". That's not the fault of "parents, preachers and Sunday schools" that screw up. It seems you are blaming Christians who aren't "real" Christians. What is a "real" Christian anyway? All of 'em will tell you something different. What is the problem with this? This difference of opinion. The fucking collateral damage to the rest of us. What is this collateral damage? Look in the mirror. You've been brainwashed and indoctrinated to believe in the biggest lies the wor ...

Yahoo 360 rehash: One more step to militant extreme atheism
2007-09-10 17:55:00
This is one of my old posts on Yahoo 360. I thought I'd share it.I am so sick of tip-toeing around fundamentalist Christians. I do my best to restrain myself when necessary. Let's get one thing clear and out of the way: 360 is where I vent. I am actual quite polite and restrained in public. Here on 360 is where I can get things off my chest. I have blogged earlier about one of my clients I drive around who is a fundamentalist Christian, at one point I just told her I was an atheist just to get it straight and that I don't believe what she believes. Nothing mean-spirited, as I said I can be very polite. On more than one occasion I have told her that I don't want to talk about religion. Here is what happened today. I pick her up at her house and the first thing she says when she gets into the van is "I spoke to Jesus and he wanted me to tell you that he loves you." Exact words, no shit. Sweet sentiment, but once again she crossed the line I had drawn. I don't want to talk abou ...

Antichrist?
2007-09-09 22:05:00
How about anti-christ? Yeah, that's better.Let's interpret it. Against Christ.Pretty simple. Now what got me going on this is a post I ran across [The End Times « Abstract Nonsense].Now, I don't put any stock whatsoever in biblical revelation and all that bullshit. The wording antichrist itself is intriguing though. Looking at it I would say that it really refers to the unbeliever/atheist/irreligious/infidel and not with some notion of a son of Satan. This is a quick post so I might come back for an edit. ...
