Court Says FBI Raid On Congressional Office Unconstitutional ... Constitution Disagrees
2007-08-03 14:41:00
The never ending saga that is William Jefferson (D-LA) continues. This is, at best, a very confusing ruling. The US Court of Appeals in DC said the raid wasn't unconstitutional, but the FBI not allowing Jefferson to hide papers was ... well, that's essentially what they were saying. As a side note ... the Speech and Debate Clause of the Constitution does not protect lawmakers from having their offices searched, and being arrested. More on that later.Breitbart:The FBI violated the Constitution when agents raided U.S. Rep. William Jefferson's office last year and viewed legislative documents, a federal appeals court ruled Friday. The court ordered the Justice Department to return any privileged documents it seized from the Louisiana Democrat's office on Capitol Hill. The court did not order the return of all the documents seized in the raid.Jefferson argued that the first-of-its-kind raid trampled congressional independence. The Justice Department said that declaring the search unco ...

UPDATE: Looks Like CAIR Did Not Drop Lawsuit Against John Doe Passengers
2007-08-02 15:55:00
Yesterday I told you that LGF was reporting that the AP's story that CAIR had dropped the passengers from the suit was false. It appears that we have confirmation that CAIR is still planning on suing the passengers for reporting suspicious behavior.Washington Times:A religious-freedom advocacy group yesterday asked a federal court to dismiss a lawsuit against airline passengers who reported suspicious behavior of a group of Muslim imams that resulted in their removal from a US Airways flight. The amicus brief by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty in the U.S. District Court of Minnesota was filed on behalf of "John Doe" passengers who are included in a lawsuit against the airline and the Minneapolis Metropolitan Airports Commission. If CAIR had dropped the passengers then we wouldn't have this group requesting the passengers be dropped from the suit.CAIR seems hell bent on taking it to the passengers anyway.A second attorney for the imams told Judge Ann Montgomery during a hearing T ...

Justice: Duane 'Dog' Chapman Will Not Be Sent To Mexico
2007-08-02 15:38:00
I appears that the long legal fight to prevent Chapman from being sent to a Mexican prison for capturing rapist Andrew Luster may be over ... with the Dog getting his man.Fox News:All criminal charges may have been dropped in Mexico against TV bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman, his son and another member of his crew for capturing a convicted American rapist on the lam four years ago, TMZ reported Thursday.A Mexican federal court had charged Chapman, 53, and the others with deprivation of liberty for seizing Andrew Luster, an heir to the Max Factor cosmetics fortune, in June 2003 in Puerto Vallarta.Chapman was awaiting a possible extradition to Mexico and a criminal trial there. He faced four years in a Mexican jail if convicted. The capture of Luster is what made Dog famous, and helped launch his TV show. Bounty hunting is illegal in Mexico, but the Mexican authorities were not taking Luster into custody. Since virtually everyone knew where Luster was in Mexico (he didn't hide) many ...

Congress Says Reporters Won't Have To Reveal Sources
2007-08-02 15:03:00
A House panel approved legislation today that would not require reporters to reveal their sources. There are some protections, but it is still scaring a lot of people who remember the NY Times exposing classified programs.Breitbart:Media companies and journalism groups have argued that the measure is needed to keep the public informed about government corruption, but the Bush administration and other opponents say it could harm national security.Under the measure, federal courts would join 32 states and the District of Columbia in protecting reporters from being forced to reveal confidential sources, except in certain cases. The voice vote sent the bill, sponsored by Reps. Rick Boucher, D-Va., and Mike Pence, R-Ind., to the House floor.Supporters said whistle-blowers will be less likely to provide information about government and other wrongdoing if reporters are required to give up their sources. The bill "helps restore the independence of the press so that it can perform its essential ...

Florida Investigation Ann Coulter For Voter Fraud
2007-08-01 19:31:00
Now, now ... don't get your hopes up. This appears to be another addition of Fark's Florida tag. You Farkers know what I mean.WND:Despite the fact authorities in Palm Beach County decided against prosecuting best-selling author and WND columnist Ann Coulter for alleged voter misconduct, the state of Florida is now reportedly investigating the case.According to the Palm Beach Post, the Florida Elections Commission is probing whether or not Coulter violated state law when she is said to have voted in the wrong precinct in a town election in February 2006 after registering at an address that wasn't hers. As you read on there are quotes by people saying anyone else would have been prosecuted. That's not entirely true as there have been numerous cases of people voting in other districts. Actually, many Democrats have sought to allow people to vote outside of their district with any opposition representing voter suppression. As WND previously reported, Palm Beach County Elections Supe ...

Judge Orders Taxpayers To Pay For Sex-Change Of Inmate
2007-08-01 19:21:00
I've already done a couple of shows on this case, but this is the latest ruling in the matter. Basically, we have a guy in prison who castrated himself, and wants to become a woman. He has fought successfully to have his treatment paid for by the taxpayers because he is in prison. Well, those taxpayers went to court in order to not be responsible for paying for this treatment, and a judge gave them a big 'ol F.U.WND:A family values organization is criticizing a judge's ruling that taxpayers must pay for a sex-change treatment for a state prison inmate. The inmate, in jail for possession of a stolen car and escape, believes "she is a woman trapped in a man's body," according to the report, and "castrated herself using a disposable razor blade" in a prison cell when state prison physicians declined to prescribe estrogen. The inmate then filed a lawsuit against the Idaho Department of Correction, alleging a violation of constitutional rights for that refusal. Now Judge Mikel Williams, ...

British Army Ready To Leave N. Ireland
2007-08-01 19:10:00
While some have tried to compare Iraq with Vietnam, I have always maintained that Iraq was much more like Britain and Ireland. I, of course, am right. I won't go into great detail about the history of this conflict/occupation, but I encourage you to look into it. The parallels with Ireland and Iraq are numerous, and can provide great insight into what to expect in Iraq. It's been 4 decades, but it looks like the pullout of British forces is becoming a reality, and Ireland can move forward to reunification.Source:THE British army prepared today to end its nearly four-decade mission in Northern Ireland in low-key fashion, the latest symbolic step towards normalisation in the long-troubled province. The military milestone, from midnight today (09:00 AEST), comes two months after self-rule was restored in Belfast following a historic power-sharing deal between Protestant and Catholic former foes.In London, British Armed Forces Minister Bob Ainsworth called it the “beginning of a new e ...

Gitmo Inmate Fights To Remain In US Custody
2007-07-31 16:16:00
This is intriguing to say the least. The guy is afraid that if he is sent home ... he will be tortured and killed. Wait ... that doesn't make sense. I thought he was being tortured at Gitmo?Fox News:An inmate of Guantanamo Bay who spends 22 hours each day in an isolation cell is fighting for the right to stay in the notorious internment camp.Ahmed Belbacha fears that he will be tortured or killed if the United States goes ahead with plans to return him to his native Algeria. The London Times reported that Belbacha, who lived in Britain for three years, has filed an emergency motion at the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., asking for his transfer out of Guantanamo to be halted. He was cleared for release from Camp Delta in February and his lawyers believe that his return to Algerian custody is imminent.Belbacha says that if he returns to Algeria, he faces the threat of torture by security services and murder by Islamist terrorists.Zachary Katznelson, senior counsel with the ...

Second Christian Hostage Confirmed Dead
2007-07-31 16:09:00
There was speculation that the Taliban executed a second Korean hostage yesterday. Today, the body was found.Fox News:Police discovered the body of a second South Korean hostage slain by the Taliban in central Afghanistan while the group threatened Tuesday to kill more hostages if their demands were not met by Wednesday, the latest of several deadlines.South Korea, meanwhile, pleaded with the international community to set aside the normal practice of refusing to cave into hostage-takers' demands, as it urged a peaceful resolution to a standoff. Twenty-one South Koreans remain captive. While I sympathize with South Korea, you can't cave in to this activity. It will only put more people at risk in the future. As tragic as this is ... these people knew there was a risk of this happening, and chose to go anyway. What we need to do is use every resource available to find them (hopefully alive), and make the kidnappers pay. We have to send a stern message that we will not negotiate ... ...

UN Will Finally Send Peacekeepers To Darfur
2007-07-31 16:04:00
It sure did take a long time to finally do the right thing. Unfortunately, the peacekeepers are likely not going to accomplish much if they meet resistance. The have a history of abandoning their mission when things get tough. I do wish them all the best, and hopefully they can be successful.Fox News:The U.N. Security Council approved a 26,000-strong peacekeeping force for Darfur on Tuesday to try to help end four years of fighting that has killed more than 200,000 people in the conflict-wracked Sudanese region. The force — the first joint peacekeeping mission by the African Union and the United Nations — will replace the beleaguered 7,000-strong AU force now on the ground in Darfur no later than Dec. 31. The council urged that the AU-U.N. "hybrid" force achieve "full operational capability and force strength as soon as possible thereafter."U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called it a "historic and unprecedented resolution" that will send "a clear and powerful signal" of the U. ...

Vegans Won't Have Sex With Meat Eaters
2007-07-31 15:11:00
I realize this is not really news worthy as no one cares what these vegans think, but I thought I would take the opportunity to point out some hypocrisy. Some Paper:No sex, please, you're a carnivore.A new phenomenon in New Zealand is taking the idea of you are what you eat to the extreme.Vegansexuals are people who do not eat any meat or animal products, and who choose not to be sexually intimate with non-vegan partners whose bodies, they say, are made up of dead animals. The title of the piece is "Carnivore Sex Off The Menu." I hate to point out the obvious, but people who eat meat aren't carnivores ... they're omnivores. Just like all humans are by design.I would also like to point out that there is no human body that is free of something that was once alive. Even the strictest vegans are responsible for some member of the animal kingdom dying. Even if it's only an insect, but I guess the poor insects don't get the love from vegans.Cruelty-Free Consumption in New Zealand: A ...

I'm Back From The Freedom Concert
2007-07-31 14:50:00
Well, the trip went off without a hitch. My station took about 120 people with us to San Diego to the Hannity Freedom Concert that benefited the Freedom Alliance. We all had a blast, and we were able to escort Spc. Carter and his wife backstage to meet a bunch of great folks. Spc. Carter just got back from Iraq 5 days before the concert, and we made sure that he and his wife could join us on the trip. When my station went on stage (the only one) we presented a $10,000 check to Hannity for the Freedom Alliance. The Vegas crowd was only about 120 people, but their cheers for us were deafening!I'm only going to post a couple of pics from the trip because I don't like the way most came out. I'm in the green shirt. Please note that this is after a VERY long day. ...

Loose Change Producer Deserted U.S. Army
2007-07-25 14:41:00
UPDATE:While I was out of town some of the questions I had about the story were answered. I have also been receiving emails, and comments, in response to the situation saying that Rowe was set up, or referring to the Fox News story that states Rowe proved his innocents. Unfortunately, for Rowe's supporters his claims appear to be false.Rowe is claiming this is a paperwork error on the part of the Army, and Rowe says he provided honorable discharge paperwork. The Army is singing a different tune:A spokeswoman for the 101st Airborne said Rowe is in the system as an Army deserter.“He was listed as a deserter in 2005,” said Lt. Col. Rumi Nielson-Green, public affairs officer for the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). “What we show is that he was absent without leave in June of 2005 and was dropped from the rolls in July 2005. … He has been apprehended for being a deserter.”Today Hotair has more:“According to our files, he is still on active duty,” said Cathy Gramling, ...
