Why would they do this? In the beginning of the match, CroCop kept Kongo backpedaling. This aggressive style seemed to work well and allowed him to totally neutralize Kongo. Amazingly, Mirko was able to put Kongo in a full mount and almost achieved an armbar in the skirmish.In the second round, however, Cheick Kongo came out on the attack and scored a takedown. He also demonstrated a pretty decent ground game. When the two rose again, Kongo landed some devastating knees to the body in the clinch. In the final round, Crocop got kneed in the groin, but Kongo was relentless. Consequently, Crocop was simply reacting to the onslaught instead of being the aggressor.
