McMillin Ads
2007-07-26 22:47:30
Thank you to Right of Mississippi for providing links to these two (as well as many more) ads. The Hinds County Sheriff’s race will be an interesting race for sure (much like the George Dale/ Gary Anderson race). I saw a different McMillin ad that I don’t have a link for yet where he says that nobody is above the law- including the mayor (I wonder who he was talking about, he didn’t mention any names…). Let’s hope Hinds county voters do the right thing and re-elect McMillin. ...
Sun Herald Backs Ross
2007-07-26 17:55:58
While the Clarion-Ledger endorsed Bryant earlier this week, the state’s second largest paper- the Sun Herald- has endorsed Charlie Ross. This endorsement appears to be largely due to Bryant’s statements that he would not have supported onshore casinos, while Ross did when in the legislature. You can read the article here. ...
Liberal Group Endorses Anderson
2007-07-26 08:12:13
We know who Dickie Scruggs is pulling for. We know who Ike Brown and the liberals in the state Democratic Party are pulling for. And know we know Howard Dean and his friends are pulling for. Democracy for America, a PAC founded by Dean in 2004, issued these statements in support of the Insurance Commissioner hopeful: “Mississippi needs a commissioner like Gary Anderson to stand up for the rights of the people. Democracy for America endorses Gary Anderson with great pride and enthusiasm because he shares our belief in people-powered politics and will move the community forward.” According to the DFA website, the organization is “dedicated to supporting fiscally responsible, socially progressive candidates at all levels of government.” Their belief is clearly liberalism, is that what Anderson wants to stand for? ...
Bryant Ad On Coast Recovery
2007-07-25 18:18:22
Phil Bryant is swinging back at Charlie Ross for this ad where Ross criticizes him for not supporting coast recovery (i.e. onshore casinos). Bryant is essentially saying that he did in fact support Barbour’s plans and takes a swipe at Ross for being a shareholder in a law firm that represents a number of insurance companies. ...
Meet Charles Porter, candidate for State Senate- District 20
2007-07-25 18:02:00
Note: Charles Porter is running for the District 20 Senate seat that is being vacated by Charlie Ross. It econompasses Rankin and Madison counties. Mr. Porter faces Bobby Blake, Harvey Dallas, and Lee Yancey in the August 7 Republican primary. Why Are You Running? I believe we need someone with a strong business background, effective leadership skills and a commitment to traditional family values to lead the district in the upcoming years. At the urging of my peers who believe that I posses those skills, I decided it was a good opportunity for me to offer my experience as a business man and father for public service. I have been a business owner for over 20 years. I currently own a construction company, a tree farm and a real estate company. I am also a graduate of Hinds Community College. I have been appointed by Governors Fordice and Barbour to leadership positions for the State with the Mississippi Home Corporation. In addition, my peers have selected me to leadership positions for ...
Contact Bennie Thompson
2007-07-24 17:47:32
Kingfish, at Jackson Jambalaya, has been covering Bennie Thompsons efforts to remove the John Doe provisions from the 9/11-security bill really well. Here is his first post from Friday and his update today. As you may or may not be aware, this provision is meant to protect those who tip off authorities on suspicious individuals from lawsuits. Congressman Thompson previously supported this measure, but now wants it killed. I encourage all my readers to contact Thompsons Washington office at 202-225-5876. Call early, call often. Concerned citizens helped kill the so-called immigration compromise, and now they need to get back on the phones and flood the lines. If you are unfortunate enough to have Thompson as your Congressman, you can contact him via his website. Here are his local office phone numbers: Bolton: 662-866-9003 Greenville: 662-335-9003 Greenwood: 662-455-9003 Jackson: 601-946-9003 Marks: 662-326-9003 ...
Minuteman Project Founder Endorses Bryant
2007-07-24 12:41:06
In the race for endorsements, Phil Bryant picked up another one in the form of a nationally known figure. Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project, endorsed Bryant for lt. gov. yesterday. You may remember the Minuteman Project lined up volunteers along the Mexican border and called in border patrol when they spotted an illegal. The group is also greatly responsible for much of the debate of illegal immigration- and has opposed the Senates immigration compromise. ...
The Great Gambling Giveaway Op-Ed
2007-07-24 11:12:07
Kevin Nieminen at Mississippi Prayer Warriors sent me a link to this article and it also available at his website. On occasion, I will publish op-ed’s even though I may agree or disagree with them. Nevertheless I think it is a good read, and encourage y’all to read it and comment on it. _______________________________________________________ The Great Gambling Giveaway William Perkins, Editor/The Baptist Record Wayne Pinkerton has never been inside the casinos that now dot the Mississippi Gulf Coast in every direction, but he can tell you the exact day each one reopened after Hurricane Katrina. “When the casinos were all closed down after Katrina, no one came to the church asking for money or any other benevolence because they had lost everything gambling - not one person,” said Pinkerton, former church administrator at First Church, Biloxi, and currently the procurement officer at the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board in Jackson. “However, when one of the casinos would r ...
Diploma Pictures
2007-07-23 20:44:18
My diploma came in about two weeks ago and I got the frame about a week later. Here are two pictures: the top is a full picture of the frame with the diploma in it. Pictured atop is the Lyceum. The second picture is a close-up of the diploma (sorry for the flash). I worked hard for it and can’t believe how fast the four years went by. ...

Mississippi Right to Life Endorsements and Recommendations
2007-07-23 18:07:33
Appearing on the MSRTL website is a number of endorsements and recommendations. An endorsement means the organization is encouraging a vote for the candidate. A recommendation means that they approve of the candidate, but will put off a formal endorsement until after the general election. The only statewide candidates to be endorsed for 2007 are Haley Barbour for governor and Charlie Ross for lt. governor. MSRTL has recommended the following candidates: For Secretary of State, they recommend Mike Lott and Delbert Hosemann in the Republican primary and John Windsor and Rob Smith in the Democratic primary. Neshoba County Fair
2007-07-23 07:31:47
I spent most of Saturday experiencing my first fair and just wanted to take a minute to write about a few things. First, unfortunately I did not realize I forgot my camera until Carthage so I have no pictures for proof that I was there or to pass along. For the latest from the fair, you can check out Sid Salters blog. He will be posting from Neshoba all week. Cotton Mouth has also said he will be tapping and posting the political speeches, which will take place in the middle of the week. It had rained the night before, but was not muddy by any means so that was a good first sign. When we got there, we walked around for a little while just looking at the cabins and all the other sites. We also checked out the Arts and Crafts show at Founders Square, and then rested in the Pavilion until taking in the mule races, 4-H competition (they put ropes on the steers and the kids had to pull them into a square in the middle of the arena), and then the rodeo later in the evening. We had left ...
Articles on Ross and Bryant
2007-07-23 06:11:54
The Daily Journal continued their good coverage of candidates this weekend. In separate pieces they had write-ups of Charlie Ross and Phil Bryant. They also had an article comparing and contrasting both the candidates. Check them out for some good information. ...

Clarion-Ledger Endorsements
2007-07-23 06:04:00
The Clarion-Ledger offered their opinion in the primaries for governor and lt. governor. Barbour, Eaves, and Franks are obviously advancing to the general election so there is no sense going over their endorsements. But in the most competitive race of the primary season, the C-L chose Phil Bryant over Charlie Ross. You can read the story here. ...
