Minutemen PAC Endorses Mike Lott
2007-08-02 15:12:26
Mike Lott picked up a key endorsement today from the Minutemen, an organization founded to help bring attention to- and prevent- the problem of illegal immigration. Earlier they had endorsed Phil Bryant for lt. gov. You can read the press release below:
_____________________________________________________
In the August 7th Mississippi primary election, the race for Secretary of State has hinged on statewide pressure for voter-identification requirements amid increasing concern over coordinated voter fraud. Responsible citizens across the political spectrum are seeking to prevent an election in which uncounted scores of illegal immigrants may be enticed to illegally cast votes. Among the seven candidates, Rep. Mike Lott has focused public attention on the need to ensure that voter ID requirements are enacted and enforced.
Announcing the Minuteman PAC endorsement of Rep. Lott, PAC Honorary Chairman Chris Simcox noted, “Representative Lott has shown a strong commitment to conservative ...

Bring on the Trial Lawyers
2007-08-02 11:14:56
After Democrats rewarded union bosses for their help with the elections last November in the form of the Employee Free Choice Act (which luckily died in the Senate), they are now rewarding their next largest constituency: trial lawyers.
House Democrats voted in near unanimity in support of the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which essentially strips the statute of limitations on pay discrimination claims. This was sparked by a recent Supreme Court decision stating that current law gives a 180-day window after the discrimination happened for this type of claim.
But under this new bill (which will most likely also die in the Senate), employees can make claims that are years or decades old; leading to an avalanche of lawsuits be thrown at employers. That’s where the trial lawyers come in.
When reading the roll call, I was somewhat shocked to see that Gene Taylor stuck with his party leaders and voted with the Democrats on this. Chip Pickering and Roger Wicker both voted against it.

Romney Gives Credit to Barbour
2007-08-01 22:55:22
Mitt Romney chimed in on the government’s response to Katrina, calling the cleanup effort in New Orleans disappointing and questioned how Louisiana handled the money it was allocated. However, when it came to Mississippi here is what the Republican presidential hopeful had to say (according to the Boston Globe):
Romney said he thought that the recovery effort next door in Mississippi was “going well and being effectively managed,” citing Republican Governor Haley Barbour as possibly the reason.

Who I’m Voting For
2007-08-01 06:03:55
The primaries are just six days away, and while I have tried to remain as non-biased when dealing with all serious Republican candidates to this point, I feel it is a fitting time to disclose who I will be voting for the in the GOP primary and why. In all other postings, I will continue to give all Republicans a fair shot.
I have also decided to include some of the local Rankin county races I will be voting in.
Statewide
Governor: Before Haley Barbour gets a chance to be re-elected by the general population in November, he will face unknown challenger Frederick Jones of Gulfport in the primary. Not much explanation needed here: Haley has done an exceptional job in his first term as governor and is well deserving of a second term.
Lieutenant Governor: Arguably the most exciting primary race of the year, Charlie Ross and Phil Bryant have been going after each other for the right to be Haley’s lieutenant. I have kept an open mind about this race, and really did not make up mind until ...

Dickie Scruggs At It Again
2007-07-31 20:27:09
Trial lawyer Dickie Scruggs continues to throw his money around and this time it is in the form of $250,000 to a third party organization formed to defeat George Dale. Among Scruggs complaints, George Dale is to heavily influenced by insurance companies which the trial lawyer feels is a conflict of interest. As Sid Salter first pointed out, if Anderson were elected- would he not be beholden to Scruggs and his trial lawyer friends.

Clarion Ledger’s Attempt to Portray Opponents of Illegals as Racist
2007-07-31 08:35:18
The Clarion-Ledger has produced another article trying to portray those who want to curb illegal immigration as racist. Citing lines from candidate speeches, they come to the conclusion that these men are all racist.
For their expert analysis they go to Patricia Ice of Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance: I think (politicians and the public) have some of the same fears as when the slaves became free here in the SouthThey felt like people were going to take their jobs, marry their daughters or sons, and taint their pure white culture.
What do you do when there is a policy or platform you do not like- label it racist. Thats what the CL does, thats what Patricia Ices organization does, thats what those opposed to voter-ID do. And then they write articles wondering what we still have racial conflicts in this state and this county

One Week To Go
2007-07-31 06:51:48
The primary election is just one week away, and while I’ve been reading about how it is not all that exciting this time around, I would beg to differ.
The Republicans have the Lt. Gov, SofS, and Ag Commish primaries while the Dems have the SofS, Auditor, and Insurance Commish primaries to look forward to. At the local level, many seats will be decided next Tuesday.
My endorsements will be out Monday tommorow.

Watch Democrats Cringe At Religion
2007-07-30 21:17:28
This poll was posted at Cotton Mouth earlier today and found its way to the liberal blog Daily Kos soon thereafter. The MEA backed poll showed Barbour leading by 15 points, but with just under 50 percent (compared to 35 percent for Eaves). I suggest you read the comments that show some of the liberal readers true thoughts on religion and how they are apparently more comfortable talking with terrorists around the world then they are about religion.
By the way, some of those posting comments appeared to be from Mississippi- when Ike Brown has his way that is who will be picking the new Democratic candidates.

From the Clarion-Ledger Endorsement of Dale
2007-07-30 06:24:37
On Sunday, the Clarion-Ledger recommended George Dale over Gary Anderson in the Democratic primary. As you probably know Dale has taken heat for his party loyalty and for his dealing with the insurance companies after Katrina. I thought the CL had a fair assessment of Dale’s performance and the reason he should be re-elected:
______________________________________________________
Throughout this difficult period, however, he has maintained the honest, straightforward and professional approach to the job he has had for more than 30 years.
Dale is not a good politician. If he were, perhaps he would have exploited the situation. He could have railed against “Big Insurance” and promised low rates for everyone as other politicians do.
Instead, he chose to tell people the hard truth. Instead, he did the job he was elected to do. He pressured companies to live up to their contractual obligations. He created a mediation program that successfully helped policyholders with disputes ...
