Lott Talks About MoveOn Ad On Fox News
2007-09-13 18:25:52
This disgraceful ad that MoveOn.org put out saying General Petraeus is betraying our country doesn’t seem to be going way. Trent Lott was on Fox News earlier today and talked about the ad during this interview with E.D. Hill: HILL: Well, I’m sure I can guess what your opinion was of that article that MoveOn.org ran in the New York Times. Today, the word has been leaked out that the New York Times gave the very liberal activist organization a huge discount and prominent placement of an ad questioning the behavior and questioning the truthfulness and the dedication to his country of the top commander in Iraq. Your reaction to finding out that they did it and they got a discount? LOTT: First, the ad was one of the most outrageous, ridiculous things I’ve ever seen in my life. I’m not surprised by this far left-wing, kooky group, MoveOn.org. I assume the New York Times gave them the friends and family discount, because MoveOn.org is part of their extended family. F ...
MS GOP Calls On Obama and Hillary to Denounce MoveOn Ad
2007-09-13 18:12:15
Jim Herring and the Mississippi Republican Party also sounded of on the MoveOn.org ad, calling for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama- the lead presidential contenders on the Democratic side- to denounce the ad. They have yet to do so; and as this press release points out have praised MoveOn in the past. CHAIRMAN HERRING CALLS ON SENS. CLINTON AND OBAMA TO DENOUNCE MOVEON.ORG ATTACK AD Mississippi Republican Party Chairman Jim Herring released the following statement urging Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to denounce a MoveOn.org ad attacking General David Petraeus and the American armed forces in Monday’s New York Times. ”Unfortunately, this kind of disrespectful tactic is not new to MoveOn.org, a group which claims to own the Democratic Party. In the past they’ve gone so far as to have ads comparing President Bush to Hitler on one of their websites. Now, they are hurling malicious attacks at men and women who have dedicated their lives to serving our country. ...

Haley’s Latest Ad- Tort Reform
2007-09-12 15:40:31
Here are some highlights on tort reform from the Barbour campaign: FACT: In 2002, hundreds of doctors were unable to find insurance companies that would write policies for them due to frivolous medical malpractice lawsuits in Mississippi. Several rural Mississippi towns were left with no obstetricians whatsoever. The Mississippi State Medical Association referred to the future of our health care as a “bleak picture” unless reforms were enacted. The American Medical Association labeled Mississippi as one of 12 states with the greatest lack of insurance coverage for physicians. Mississippi was known as a “haven for trial lawyers” due to $100 million-plus verdicts and settlements. Some Mississippi residents were forced to travel over 100 miles to out-of-state clinics for medical care. - Reference: Associated Press, Sun Herald: July 11, 2002 FACT: “…take a look at Mississippi, where this morning Governor Haley Barbour will sign into law one of the most comprehensive lega ...
Riley Will Be On The Ballot
2007-09-11 21:58:19
Les Riley just left a note in the comments section of a previous post about his possible disqualification from the Ag Commish race. He details the day and the meeting below: We won, but it was quite anti-climactic. We got there at 1:20 & had two reporters and about 20 supporters there. Shortly after Eric Clark & Jim Hood came in, a fellow walked out & said “Mr. Riley,we got your written response. Everything looks to be in order. You will be on the ballot & you don’t even need to come in. You are not even on the agenda anymore.” He then said, “We tried to call you. The number we have for you is disconnected.” I said, “Yeah, I moved — in case you haven’t heard.” Everyone laughed. The AP reporter interviewed me. I will be on Supertalk in the morning at 7:00. That’s about it. I am fairly certain the coverage I got on the blogs & talk radio — as well as phone calls & e-mails from folks — helped my cause as much as the facts of the response we ...
Clarion-Ledger Readers Respond to Pro-Abortion Letter
2007-09-11 19:22:38
About two weeks ago, I made note of a Clarion-Ledger letter to the editor that caught my eye. The letter’s author, a Planned Parenthood board member and Southern Miss professor, spoke of her displeasure with Rep. Taylor supporting a measure that would have restricted funding to the abortion provider. Then last week, I was pleased to see this response in the Clarion-Ledger written by the Director of the Christian Action Group and an Ob-Gyn in Jackson: Restrict federal funding to Planned Parenthood group Molly Clark, in a recent letter to the editor (”Rep. Taylor should support Planned Parenthood goals,” Aug. 27), criticized 4th District U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor’s vote to restrict federal funds to Planned Parenthood. Where Planned Parenthood reigns, illicit sex rules! That group’s call for birth control for all people of all ages, sexes and marital status - or not - equals few live births and little sexual control. Planned Parenthood receives hundreds of millions o ...
Taylor Refuses To Condemn MoveOn
2007-09-11 09:48:54
I was disappointed to read today that Gene Taylor, whom I have often praised for not walking in step with Nancy Pelosi’s agenda, refused to condemn the anti-military ad run in Monday’s New York Times paid for by Moveon.org. You can read a summary of the ad and the responses by both sides here. A picture of the ad is below: But when a Human Events columnists asked for Taylor to comment on the ad, his military advisor Kevin Parker only had this to say: “He doesn’t normally react to that kind of stuff — some ad from an organization.” Essentially- no comment. He had a chance to denounce a hate filled organization, but couldn’t even do that much. Maybe Taylor has been spending too much time with Pelosi recently. ...

What Does Bennie Thompson Know About Reaching Out?
2007-09-10 17:42:40
The following paragraph from a story in The Hill on Leslie Southwick and Trent Lott caught my eye: “As far as I know, his (Trent Lott) relation with the black community is minor,” said Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), who is leading the fight within the Congressional Black Caucus against the (Leslie Southwick) nomination. “There’s no penalty for Trent Lott in that,” Thompson added, citing the senator’s safe seat. It’s interesting to hear Bennie Thompson talk about relations with the other race, and noting that Lott’s seat is safe as long as he wants it. Thompson represents the most gerrymandered district in the state. He can win election without the support of one white voter. His majority black district essentially does two things- guarantees his re-election and guarantees that re-districting cannot break it up (to create a majority white and therefore Republican leaning district). Any redistricting, as you may be aware, requires approval from the Justice Department. Th ...

Les Riley Disqualified?
2007-09-08 10:18:21
I got this e-mail from the Les Riley camp, about possibly being disqualified for the Ag Commish race: “It is not the ones who vote who determine who wins elections, but who counts the votes ” – J. Stalin former Russian Communist Dictator Mr. Salter & Gallo, et al, ( Ms Peterson, would you please pass on to JT & Dave?) I NEED YOUR HELP ! Someone wants me out of the Ag Commissioner’s race. Who and why are the questions. I received a phone call from my wife today at about 3:00 telling me that I had received a letter from the Sec. of State notifying me that I may be disqualified from the race for Commissioner of Agriculture’s race for very shaky sounding reasons. I did not see the actual letter until tonight at 8:00, but I received this notification today, Fri. Sept. 7, after 2:00. The letter stated that could come to an election board meeting this Tues. Sept 11 at 1:30 and I would be given 5 minutes to make my case why I should be on the ballot and ...
