Hopkins’ On Hood’s Claims
2007-10-11 12:47:58
From the Al Hopkins campaign: IN LATEST TV AD, HOOD STEALS CREDIT FOR WORK HIS LARGEST CAMPAIGN DONOR DID ON WORLDCOM CASE Hood’s Credit-Stealing Ad Begs Answers to 5 Lingering Questions Over His Handling of WorldCom Case 1. Did Hood give the WorldCom contract - that paid $14 million - to Joey Langston in return for the $156,839 Langston previously gave to help elect Hood Attorney General? 2. Is the additional $102,875 Hood’s taken from Langston, since giving him the WorldCom deal, part of a quid pro quo? 3. Was the $22,925 Hood took from the Louisiana law firm that split the $14 million with Langston part of the same quid pro quo? 4. If Hood’s claim is true that he contacted “many” Mississippi firms about the WorldCom contract before giving it to Langston, then why has Hood refused to provide the news media with certifiable documentation of his efforts to contact “many” firms? 5. Could Jim Hood have recovered more than 10 cents on the dollar - like other sta ...
MS-3 Not In Play
2007-10-10 21:01:58
Stuart Rothenberg, editor and publisher of the non-partisan Rothernberg Political Report, provided the latest House rankings on his blog earlier today. They rated about 50 seats that they see as possibly switching sides next year. While MS 1,2, and 4 were left of the list for obvious reasons, MS-3, which will be open next year, is not considered in play at this point. ...
Campaign Finance Reports- Hosemann and Barbour
2007-10-10 20:31:11
Hosemann campaign: Filing for the period ending on September 30, 2007 the Delbert Hosemann for Secretary of State Campaign posted a periodic campaign finance report showing $318,009.00 dollars raised for the November 6th general election and $276,640.00 dollars cash on hand. Barbour campaign: Governor Haley Barbour today filed a campaign finance report showing he raised over $2.87 million since late July and has more than $5.94 million cash on hand. The report, filed with the Secretary of State’s office, combined with previous records show that Barbour for Governor has raised over $12.67 million since January 1, 2004. ...
Sid Salter Rips Into Eaves
2007-10-10 17:30:12
While the New York Times, Washington Post, and Bloomberg are doing their best to put a D in the governor’s mansion, I am glad to see Sid Salter call John Arthur Eaves out on his blog today. From Sid Salter’s blog: Eaves: The Book of John Arthur Jr…. We seeing a new gospel unveiled in the 2007 Mississippi gubernatorial primary, the Book of John Arthur Jr. So inspiring, so seemingly miraculous is this gospel that it’s lifted it’s trial lawyer prophet to the front page of The New York Times. In that gospel, prayer and religious education in public schools have no constitutional barriers. In that gospel, public health care programs can be funded with no tax increases with the poor themselves paying for it through premiums and co-payments. The health care program can even be doubled without doubling the state’s costs and all this can happen no matter what Congress and the White House does with the SCHIP program that already isn’t meeting the needs of ...

Liberals: The Governor’s Race Is Close (We Hope)
2007-10-09 06:11:22
I guess the new theme we will be seeing from the liberal bloggers at the Clarion-Ledger is that John Arthur Eaves is closing the gap. So far, they had been honest in noting that Eaves is losing; but with about a month to go before we vote they are trying to give us the impression that Eaves is within reach. From David Hampton: Could it really be that Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Arthur Eaves is nipping at Gov. Haley Barbour’s heels? Eaves is not a strong candidate and I have said that in the past. But his family values ads, his concentrating on economic issues important to poor and middle-class Mississippians and even his irrelevant prayer in school propoals appear to be getting some traction. I have no polls, but Barbour’s campaign reacting and attacking Eaves shows he must be chipping away at Barbour’s lead. Interesting. This race could become fun to watch after all. From Jere Nash: Notwithstanding my coauthor’s comments, hands down this is John&rs ...

Dems and Hunting
2007-10-08 06:30:35
Sometimes when I see the Democratic campaign commercials this fall, I think I am watching ESPN Outdoors. Pictured below are commercials from actual Jamie Franks and Jim Hood campaign ads; as well as a photo-op by John Eaves to show he knows how to load a gun. As I’ve said before, I’m glad these Democrats hunt and follow the Republican Party platform on the Second Amendment; rather than the national Dems and their leaders. But, at a certain level, I think the Democrats are trying to play voters (rural voters in particular) for dumb; thinking that video of them walking in camo with a dog and a gun will win their vote. (Although I don’t particularly like Jim Hood I will give him credit for having a platform, as opposed to Eaves and Franks.) Ideas and vision will you votes; not the number of guns you own. ...

Jamie Franks Blog Now Active
2007-10-06 11:26:25
Well, how about that? On Wednesday I showed the lack of information on Jamie Frank’s Blogspot blog, followed by his empty blog page on his campaign website. If you go and check them now- they each have their first post. Interesting. On a side note, it now has slightly more information than John Arthur Eaves blog. ...
Northern PSC Race
2007-10-05 16:45:19
The following is from a source in the North Mississippi area that has the inside scoop on the PSC race in that district: Influential Republicans in North Mississippi, including a former US Congressional Candidate, are defecting from Public Service Commissioner North GOP nominee Mabel Murphree and heading toward Brandon Presley. Sources say that many Republicans in Murphree’s home area in Lee County are vocally and visibly opposed to her candidacy. This may also include Governor Haley Barbour, as he did not allow her to join him at the podium in Oxford on a September afternoon to promote Republican Party candidates. Governor Barbour relieved Murphree of her duties as Director of the Appalachian Regional Commission shortly after being elected. Records in the Secretary of State’s office show that Murphree gave $5000 to Democrat Ronnie Musgrove, Haley Barbour’s opponent for Governor, in 2003. ...
