What Does The Democratic Presidential Front-Runner Think About Mississippi?
2007-10-23 17:43:37
From the Des Moines Register:
“I was shocked when I learned Iowa and Mississippi have never elected a woman governor, senator or member of Congress. There has got to be something at work here,” she said, theorizing it may be the risk-averse nature of a state built around agriculture.
”I think not only do I have to bring people to me, I have to maybe reassure people here maybe more than I do in New Hampshire, which has had a woman governor,” she said.
”I think Iowa poses a special burden, or a special obstacle to me because when you look at the numbers, how can Iowa be ranked with Mississippi? That’s not what I see. That’s not the quality. That’s not the communitarianism, that’s not the openness I see in Iowa.”
The Democrats Spineless Response:
“Our official comment is, we decline to comment,” said Terry Cassreino, spokesman for the Mississippi Democratic Party.
But Jim Herring calls the liberal Senator out:
“I think that her statements about Mi ...

I’m Thankful For John Eaves Too
2007-10-23 12:35:23
Democratic cheerleader Bobby Harrison wrote a column in the Daily Journal today about how the Democrats should be happy that John Arthur Eaves stepped up to run against Barbour when Moore, Musgrove, and the other has-beens in the Democratic Party decided against the run.
Here is the opening paragraph:
No matter how state elections turn out on Nov. 6, Democrats across Mississippi owe John Arthur Eaves Jr. a huge debt of gratitude.
I can only speak for myself, but as a Republican I am very happy that Eaves decided to run also. Because of Eaves, Barbour has been able to shift some funds from his war chest to fellow Republicans. Because of Eaves, we have been reminded of how dangerous it would be if trial-lawyers once again regained control in Jackson. Because of Eaves, the question isn’t how if Barbour will win, but by how much. And the list goes on…

2007 Predictions, Las Vegas Style
2007-10-22 18:07:42
I have decided to add a little Las Vegas to my predictions for the 2007 statewide offices. Instead of simply stating who will win and what their percentage will be, I have decided to predict what the spread of victory will be, and post them like a football spread. I then want my readers to respond in the comments section with whether they would take the under (if you think the underdog will do better than I predict), the over (if you think the favorite would do better than I predict), or you can just say you agree with the spread.
For the record, these are my predictions and based on my observations alone. I have not been getting any “insider” information that I have not reported on my blog. Also, please remember that this is what I think the results of the election will bring, and not necessarily how I will be voting or what I’d like to see happen.
Please comment to make this fun.

Fred Thompson: Confirm Leslie Southwick
2007-10-22 17:34:20
I am glad to see a presidential contender chiming in on this confirmation fight. This post is currently up at RedState.
It’s hard to believe that Democrats in the Senate would expend this much negative energy against one man, but apparently they think Judge Leslie Southwick is important enough for them to do so. In case you’ve missed it, Judge Southwick was nominated for a long-standing vacancy on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit by President Bush, was blocked by Democrats, finally voted out of the Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this summer, and has been waiting for full Senate confirmation for several months. His nomination may come before the full Senate later this week.
Judge Southwick shouldn’t feel that what’s happened to him is an isolated situation. In fact, Democrats have been playing this game going all the way back to the days of their attacks on Judge Robert Bork and Justice Clarence Thomas. Senate Democrats simply can’t stand judges wh ...

I am not sure how long it has been live, but a “Jeff Smith for Speaker” website has recently been launched. It’s a little bare right now, including some press releases and latest news from the campaign.

Franks Continues To Be Dishonest
2007-10-22 12:43:04
I watched this dishonest Franks’ ad with amazement, but was glad to see Bryant immediately respond. Once again, Franks would be better off if he just never opened his mouth.
JAMIE FRANKS’ LATEST ATTACK ON PHIL BRYANT IS JUST A BUNCH OF BULL
In the most recent, ridiculous attack ad by Jamie Franks against Phil Bryant, Franks continues trying to blame Phil Bryant for anything and everything. Here’s a reality check:
Jamie Franks continues to try to blame Phil Bryant for the Beef Plant debacle. That’s a bunch of bull. The fact is, Jamie Franks voted to fund the failed Beef Plant three times. Franks voted to give millions of taxpayers’ money to the Beef Plant fiasco as stated in yesterday’s Clarion-Ledger: “Franks voted three times to fund the beef plant project.” Clarion-Ledger, October 21, 2007
The ridiculous new ad also says Phil Bryant lost $25 million on the MCI/Worldcom settlement. As everyone knows, Attorney General Jim Hood managed that settlement on behalf ...

Hampton Wouldn’t Mislead Us On Purpose, Would He?
2007-10-22 06:26:59
While Dave Hampton was on vacation last week, he must not of been keeping up with the news because I am sure he wouldn’t of tried to mislead readers with his latest anti-Barbour post (yes, I can barely keep a straight face as I type this).
It’s Dave’s favorite thing to do- calling those who say as much as one word in opposition to illegal immigration a xenophobe. Let’s look at what he says in his latest post:
Also, Barbour had to run out the immigration issue this week. I have been getting letters from the anti-immigrant bunch criticizing Barbour for not being strong enough on the issue and it appears he has fallen for it. Barbour has it about half right in his ad. It is a federal function. There is little the state can do about it and the Congress just hasn’t been willing to belly up to this issue. Barbour now says the state should step in when the feds don’t. Mississippi can barely enforce speed limits and he wants to get into the immigration deportation business? ...

More Sour Grapes
2007-10-20 07:33:57
Here is the quote from one of the most liberal state Senators, Gloria Williamson:
“The rest of them, I think, were never real Democrats. But I think Mike Espy messed up something terrible.”
Got that Democrats? If you don’t support this train wreck of a candidacy, you have messed up. And Gloria, Ike and fellow Dems won’t forget that next time you try to qualify with a D next to your name.
In other news, vote for Giles Ward (Williamson’s opponent) if you live in Senate District 18.

Weekly SEC Picks (Week Eight)
2007-10-19 06:20:18
I’m still not over the blown call from the Ole Miss/ Alabama game last weekend, but the games must go on…
Tennessee at Alabama- Must be the third Saturday in October. This decision is really simple- is Doyle Jackson going to be in the replay booth? But in all seriousness, both these teams have played up and down this year, and I suspect we will see a close game. (Partially because of my new found disdain for the Crimson Tide) I’ll take Tennessee.
Arkansas at Ole Miss- I guess someone will have to win an SEC game. This decision is also really simple- is Doyle Jackson going to be in the replay booth? I’ve seen Ole Miss play well after coming up close, and I’ve seen them get blown out the week after a tough loss. Unfortunately, I think they still may be dejected from last week’s game and I’ll take Arkansas.
Auburn at LSU- This suddenly has become a good game thanks to a reborn Auburn team. But I still think LSU is one of the best two or three teams in the country, and will w ...
