Weekly SEC Picks (Week Nine)
2007-10-26 12:02:38
Ole Miss looks to become officially bowl ineligible for the fourth year in a row this weekend.
Florida International at Arkansas- FIU will probably give Arkansas a tougher game than Ole Miss did, but either way Arkansas wins.
Ole Miss at Auburn- Auburn’s coming off of there near upset in Baton Rouge last weekend and playing some of the best football in the country. Ole Miss- we won’t go into that. Auburn wins.
Florida vs. Georgia- I expect Florida to have a lot of momentum from their big win at Kentucky last weekend (yes, Kentucky). Add that to the fact that UGA loses this game 90% of the time and I’ll take Florida.
Mississippi State at Kentucky- State’s got another tough road test this weekend. I expect Kentucky to bounce back from last weekend and win this game.
South Carolina at Tennessee- Tennessee has played as inconsistent football as I have seen this year. Their season includes getting crushed by Cal, Florida, and Alabama; but a good win against Georg ...

Obama and The Pledge
2007-10-26 06:19:16
Apparently Obama not only shows his patriotism by not wearing an American flag lapel pin; but he also does so by not saluting the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance.
During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. — United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171

Hosemann On Voting Reform
2007-10-25 18:53:08
For those who prefer a cleaner race, let’s look at what Delbert Hosemann had to say in the Daily Leader today concerning voter fraud:
You had everything there (in Jefferson Davis County) - a dead man voting, a man voting while in the (hospital) ICU, absentee and affidavit ballots and the need for more poll worker education,” Hosemann said.
Besides obvious voter fraud in two instances, the judge cited irregularities in the handling of absentee and affidavit ballots along with general confusion during the counting and tallying process on election night. He also criticized the county’s Democratic Executive Committee for its lack of preparedness.
Hosemann on supporting Voter ID:
Hosemann, who has campaigned heavily on the need for voter identification, said a comprehensive voter reform act that addresses every aspect of the process is the only way to restore voter confidence in the system.
”While the bright light is on voter ID, in the shadows are all these other issues. ...

Southwick Confirmed!
2007-10-24 12:36:53
Roll Call
From The Hill:
Senate Republicans scored a key victory Wednesday with the confirmation of Leslie Southwick to the New Orleans-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.
A united GOP conference convinced enough Democrats to cross party lines to first clear a procedural hurdle and then succeed in the confirmation vote. Southwick has been arguably the most contentious judicial nominee of the 110th Congress up to this point, amid strong opposition from Democratic leaders and liberal groups. Senators had invoked cloture in a 62-35 vote and, minutes later, confirmed Southwick on a 59-38 vote.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), in anticipation of a close tally, had halted his presidential campaign and canceled events in New Hampshire to be present for the vote.
He blasted Democrats for “delaying tactics” and a “smear campaign” against Southwick.
“Liberals, including the Democratic presidential candidates, are opposing Judge Southwick because they know he will strictly inte ...
