Wartime Escapism (1): Why We Need Superheroes Now More Than Ever
2007-07-26 14:54:27
Part I of the ‘Wartime Escapism’ series: First part of a series of articles by Foehammer examining the need for escapism during times of war and the underlying truth that has served as a catalyst for the wave of superhero and fantasy movies hitting the Silver Screen since 9-11.
Have you noticed the torrent of superhero movies coming out of Hollywood the past few years? How could you not, right? Many would argue that this trend it just a symptom of a generation of comic book readers growing up into avid movie-watchers, combined with the fact that special effects in the cinema are now capable of handling such “fantastic” plots and bringing them to the Silver Screen. That’s all true enough in my mind also; I myself am a longtime comic book aficionado and movie buff.
Yet, I believe that there’s something more at work here in the American and Western psyche than first meets the eye or the mind — something subconscious.
The comic book, as the ...

Institutional Jihad: Saudi influence in U.S. classrooms
2007-07-25 20:10:09
Yet another institutional jihad alert along the same lines as other reports that I’ve brought to you here at the Anvil this year. I first noticed this report over at Michelle Malkin, but be sure to read all of the Stanley Kurtz article from which the following is an important excerpt:
Believe it or not, the Saudis have figured out how to make an end-run around America’s K-12 curriculum safeguards, thereby gaining control over much of what children in the United States learn about the Middle East. While we’ve had only limited success paring back education for Islamist fundamentalism abroad, the Saudis have taken a surprising degree of control over America’s Middle-East studies curriculum at home.
How did they do it? Very carefully…and very cleverly. It turns out that the system of federal subsidies to university programs of Middle East Studies (under Title VI of the Higher Education Act) has been serving as a kind of Trojan horse for Saudi influence over American K-12 ed ...

We have reports of attempts to attach these measures to the war funding bill and the Homeland Security funding bill.
We need everyone lighting up the DC phone lines and voice mails TONIGHT and THURSDAY, with an urgent message.
“Senator _______, do NOT allow any immigration legislation to be added to other bills! We are watching and these measures have already been defeated and should not be placed into law in sneaky ways! Bullet-Riddled Body of S. Korean Found
2007-07-25 11:49:51
Bad news from My Way News:
The bullet-riddled body of a South Korean hostage was found by police Wednesday in central Afghanistan after a purported Taliban spokesman said the militants had killed one of the captives.
The male victim had 10 bullet holes in his head, chest and stomach, and was discovered in the Mushaki area of Qarabagh district in Ghazni province, said police officer Abdul Rahman.
The Taliban spokesman said earlier that the hostage was was killed because Afghan authorities hadn’t met their demands to release other militants from prison.
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP’s earlier story is below.

Taqiyya Alert: Ideology vs. Information (or the attempt to get a Muslim-only media source into the U.S.)
2007-07-24 17:53:49
From an article posted over at the Muslims Speak Out Blog, hosted by the Washington Post, comes what I view as textbook taqiyya. Step lightly and with rubber boots on, there’s much bull#$%! ahead (denoted by added emphasis):
Ideology vs. Information: Developing a Muslim Fourth Estate
By Firas Ahmad & al-Husein N. Madhany
Robert Baer, the former Middle East CIA operative, recently interviewed a 17-year-old suicide bomber from Afghanistan who was caught before he could undertake the attack. Baer discovers that, far from being a rabid, frothing-at-the-mouth, anti-American zealot, the boy was simply brainwashed into believing Al Qaeda’s ideology. Among the absurdities the boy believed was that the President of Pakistan, Pervaiz Musharaff, was a Jew.
Ideology is the refuge of con men. Its influence is derived from restricting the availability of information so as to manipulate the way people view the world. Ideology flourishes in environments where reality is oversimplified int ...

Atlas Podcast on Islamic Bosnia
2007-07-24 11:19:28
From Hugh Fitzgerald’s ‘95 things that fuel Muslim extremism’:
79. The refusal of Orthodox priests in monasteries in Bosnia and Kosovo to abandon the monasteries to Muslims who are clamoring to destroy them.
Mu’ammar Al-Qaddafi had this to say in a speech delivered in May of 2006:
We have fifty million Muslims in Europe. There are signs that Allah will grant Islam victory in Europe - without swords, without guns, without conquests. The fifty million Muslims of Europe will turn it into a Muslim continent within a few decades.
Allah mobilizes the Muslim nation of Turkey, and adds it to the European Union. That’s another 50 million Muslims. There will be 100 million Muslims in Europe. Albania, which is a Muslim country, has already entered the EU. Bosnia, which is a Muslim country, has already entered the EU. 50 percent of its citizens are Muslims.
Pamela over at Atlas Shrugs has done a couple of very informative interviews side-by-side that I believe many of y ...

Save the ‘John Doe’ Amendment
2007-07-23 16:18:25
I received the following alert from the Vigilant Freedom/910 Group today:
In Washington, a House-Senate conference committee on a homeland security bill is considering whether to include a measure to protect, from lawsuit, Americans who report suspicious behavior. The so-called “John Doe” measure comes in response to a lawsuit by six imams who were booted from a plane that was about to fly from Minneapolis late last year because they were acting very suspiciously, refusing to sit in their assigned seats, asking for metal seat belt extenders, and speaking loudly and disparagingly about the United States. The imams plan to sue not only the airline but the passengers who reported their behavior — a step that, if successful, could have a chilling effect on whether other Americans come forward to report such behavior or whether they decide that doing so isn’t worth the legal fees. Without this protection, Americans would have no reason to follow the motto of law ...

Response on a Monday
2007-07-23 11:31:39
I’m always reminded that I have Australian readers when I get this many comments while I’m sleeping. Oi!
Thanks to all (well, almost all) for your words of support and levity with regard to my would-be stalker from this past Sunday’s comments. Very much appreciated. Don’t worry about me. Even if this particular fellow was smart enough to use a proxy to cover his tracks, proxies are not often foolproof, and if he used a public computer, someone may have logged his usage or remember his face.
The bottom line is that I’m not so concerned with the fact that he threatened me as I am that he might lead authorities to other “interesting” people. That’s often how things work the past few years: you lift up a rock and all sorts of nasty things scatter in different directions.
I do, unfortunately, have to address this new comment though:
You are an entertainer, FoeHammer, you are. I would have to agree that posting hate mail, where we are ...

Death Threat on a Sunday Afternoon
2007-07-22 13:40:03
Ah, the sun is shining, the birds are chirping and yet someone found an excuse to sit down and jot out some “warm fuzzies” for me this afternoon. I don’t know if I’m “touched”, but I certainly know the commenter is. From the ironically-named ‘Intelligent American’, iay@aol.com, 69.41.152.15 (emphasis added for obvious reasons):
I’m sure you are much more of an experts then a former weapons inspector. In fact, you’re probably an expert in everything.
Do you know what xenophobia means?
I take extreme exception to your ranting, because it is not based upon anything other then your own personal bias, misinterpretation and extreme fundamentalism. You’re just as bad as those you claim to hate.
Perhaps you don’t recall that Ritter was right. As were many other people who revealed that the lies that put this country into Iraq were fabrications. But perhaps that doesn’t matter to you.
Which makes you hateful. Which ...

Help Foehammer Get Paid to Blog for a Year
2007-07-22 12:41:19
This won’t cost you a dime, but could actually allow me to blog for another year without having to worry about my mortgage. Just the very idea of that makes me giddy like a schoolgirl — err, like a — oh, never-mind. It just makes me giddy, damnit!
At the same time, clicking the following orange button doesn’t just give you the opportunity to help me reach financial Nirvana for a year, but it can also help promote my work at the Anvil to more new readers:
Whenever you see that button on the Anvil, clicking it will bring you to my Blog for a Year profile and you may then enter a vote for me if you deem me worthy. You can do this once each and every day, so feel free to be drawn to that orange like a moth when you see it!
From Blog for a Year:
The Blog for a Year competition is an experiment in social sponsorship. What would happen if patrons from all over the world could come together to give one deserving writer the boost he or she needs to launch a ...

Cyberjihad: Coming to an American hosting company near you
2007-07-21 16:55:14
From Hot Air via Allahpundit:
Nice work by McQ and MEMRI to shine a light on some of the rats running around in our basement. Yet another case of primitive ideology exploiting cutting-edge western technology, except this time they’re doing it from bases inside America. McQ gives the ISPs the benefit of the doubt by noting that most probably can’t read Arabic. In light of YouTube’s tolerance for jihadi snuff videos and the fact that it’s abundantly clear from the visual elements what the sites are about, I’m less charitable. I wonder if the feds don’t prefer to have them on American servers, though: it must make it a hell of a lot easier to find out who’s accessing the pages than it would if they were hosted in Saudi Arabia. That was the military’s stated rationale, in fact, for letting the insurgent satellite network in Iraq continue to operate. Bad for propaganda but good for intel.
If, as McQ suggests, Congress does do something then they’ll have to deal with First ...

Robert D. Crane is a revert to Islam
2007-07-21 10:50:35
One of my favorite atheists shares some very interesting insights this morning that I feel worthy of a cross-posting. From Hugh Fitzgerald of the famously undhimmified Jihad Watch:
Former Nixon aide Robert D. Crane is a convert to Islam, and his biography — the one he himself composed — shows other evidence of mental bizarrerie (to see it, google “Robert D. Crane” and “Posted by Hugh” and “Jihad Watch”). He has a vested interest in protecting Islam, and protecting as well his own emotional investment in Islam, as a convert. At this point, he is unlikely to say — it would be impossible for him to say, given his mental makeup, to say or even to allow himself a glimmer of a hint of saying or thinking anything like this: “Yes, you’re right, I ‘reverted’ to something I did not understand.”
Islam is quite different from what the naïve revert may think. Those who are born into Islam and have managed to defect or ...

Digg and Blogger banning more anti-jihad related sites
2007-07-20 21:25:05
Well, in the past twenty minutes I received not one but two emails from separate bloggers informing me that Digg and Blogger have both seen fit to label them as “spam” and ban them in their own way. A Blogger ban is the most serious since it disables a site almost entirely (i.e. cannot post), as was the case for 18 hours most recently with Gates of Vienna.
Who is the primary suspect behind this recent trend of censorship? Well, none other than the “Reverend” Jim Sutter. Jim thinks we are all Islamophobes and apparently that makes us hate what we supposedly fear. And that is his excuse for fashioning his own brand of fascism and hate and calling it “good work”.
Can you say hypocrite, boys and girls?
If anyone has any further information on who else might be behind the moves to ban anti-jihad sites or other politically oriented sites that do not cultivate a “progressive” agenda, please pass it along. Here are the two affected sites toda ...

Flexing My Freedom of Speech: Cartoon Muhammad Roundup
2007-07-20 10:59:29
I’m just in a surly mood this morning (probably because I haven’t had my coffee yet), so I think I’ll just post some things here to annoy Islamists.
I’m sure many of you remember the wahoo that was created back in April, 2006 on Comedy Central when ‘South Park’ creators intended to air an episode lampooning Muhammad. Comedy Central producers whimped out bigtime, of course, and no images of Muhammad were shown; tensions were still running high from the Cartoon Riots.
Here’s that clip:
Well, it just so happens that Muhammad did make it to American primetime on ‘South Park’ back in 2001! You remember — that year. Here’s the footage to prove it:
Personally I think it would have been funnier and far more accurate if Muhammad had the flames shooting out of his butt, but that’s just my opinion. Oops! Did I just offend some Muslims! Deal with it, because apparently the following clip wasn’t supposed to offend ...
