Fred Thompson comes out swinging in SC debate
2008-01-10 21:50:19
I had a feeling it would happen in South Carolina: Fred Thompson came alive. All this talk since January 1st about Thompson not “wanting” the Presidency enough was obviously aimed at knocking him out of the race early, but I believe all the cheering for Fred during the Republican Debate in South Carolina on January 10th now makes it clear that he’s not going out easily or prematurely. Fred Thompson took Mike Huckabee to task on his basic policies by showing very clearly that Governor Huckabee’s liberal foreign policy flies in the face of many of the core values of Ronald Reagan. Republicans love to compare themselves to Reagan because he was the most successful and forward thinking President that most of us have witnessed in our lifetimes. But all these candidates should beware of being too gratuitous with such name-dropping: Ronald Reagan is a tough act to follow. Yet, it wasn’t the target of Fred’s ire early in the debate that really mattered ...
Blog For A Year Contest Ends
2008-01-09 01:45:38
The Blog for a Year contest has ended. I didn’t win, but I’m quite proud of how many votes I received in the short time that I took part. The ratio of votes versus views of my profile was an unbelievable 1:2.76! The winner was a blogger that goes by the name Absolutely True. It just goes to show you that it’s hard to compete with ‘fluff’ when you’re dealing in ‘bad news.’ Similar Posts:Help Foehammer Get Paid to Blog for a Year Fatwaworthy! I’m the damn Juggernaut! Changing Gears in the New Year
2007-12-31 08:31:18
In January of 2007, I promised to give the Anvil more fuel than I had ever fed it before. I know that I have been true to my word in that regard. However, I also said that by December I would have some tough choices to make based on the success of this project. The Anvil has been more successful than I honestly anticipated; it has proven beyond a doubt that one man or woman can still make a difference in this confused and crazy world. Yet, I can not honestly say that it has been enough for me. I have made personal sacrifices to develop the Anvil into an atypical blog, sacrifices that I was more than willing to make. I do not regret these for a minute. I’m proud of my work here and I know that I stand on the side of truth in this war with Islam. All this stated, I come to another crossroad and I must make a choice. For those of you holding your breath, you can start breathing normally again now: the Anvil is not going to vanish, but I am going to change how I approach ...
When You’re Right, You’re Right
2007-12-29 11:31:40
I agree with the following analysis completely. The source doesn’t matter; when you’re right, you’re right (emphasis added). While there is no conclusive answer to who killed former Pakistani prime minister Bhutto, so far the only claim of responsibility has come from an Al Qaeda leader in Afghanistan, who posted the claim of responsibility on an Italian Web site. Al Qaeda posted the following message: “We terminated the most precious American asset which vowed to defeat the mujahideen. (holy warriors)” Bhutto was an outspoken critic of Al Qaeda and other extremist Islamist groups. Consequently, Al Qaeda and other Islamist groups hated her for her rhetoric, for supporting secularism and for being a woman. While we can’t know for sure who killed Bhutto, on two occasions, Al Qaeda has also tried to kill Pakistani president Musharraf. This brings us to the state of emergency that was enacted by Musharraf in November to “defend Pakistan fro ...
Benazir Bhutto Assassinated
2007-12-27 12:29:40
Benazir Bhutto has been assassinated in Pakistan. I will be returning to Jihad Watch comments a little more over the next and future days, starting today; something I have let slide for many weeks. I’m beyond outraged with the state of this world. I think it’s time to start barking louder and I might as well get back to my roots to do it. Here’s a taste of my sentiments this morning. The only surprise here is that it took the Muslims this long to assassinate Benazhir Bhutto. Attractive, charismatic, intelligent, courageous woman seeking to help further democracy in the Middle East, in Pakistan of all places? She might as well have built a bomb herself and sat on it. God bless her, but this is just the beginning of the Chaos that far too few of us have predicted would come. The Muslim world should be quelled at any cost. The primary concern for the West right now is maintaining security on those nuclear weapons in Pakistan. If this means invading Pakistan with inte ...
Open Thread: Merry Christmas
2007-12-23 14:58:13
Yes, Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays. It still means “good tidings and joy” no matter what religion you cater to, so that’s how I type it today. Merry, merry Christmas! I’m reminded today to look at things through the rose-tinted lens for a change. Things could be better for any of us; who’s ever completely satisfied, but this is no reason to grumble. God knows the state of the world could be better, but we do what we can to improve that, too. So, be happy this week. Enjoy the time with your friends and family and if for some reason you can’t be with any of those, then enjoy the time with your own happy memories and that will sustain you. Peace. 41 Percent of Al Qaeda fighters in Iraq are Saudis
2007-12-21 11:43:12
I just heard the most predictable factoid: 41% of Al Qaeda fighters in Iraq are Saudi Arabians. Apparently record keeping by some Al Qaeda higher-ups has been captured by the U.S. military and careful records have revealed a detailed accounting of the social and regional makeup of the Al Qaeda operatives inside Iraq. Many of these Islamic terrorists are being recruited directly off of Islamic college campuses across the Middle East and around the world. This, again, is quite predictable. Islam demands this sort of sacrifice and its followers anticipate rewards in Paradise. How can we continue to act as if this is just a symptom of “radical” Islam and still look ourselves in the mirror? I certainly gave up that notion years ago, so I’m not surprised by any of these revelations. Criticism of Obama’s Muslim background is absolutely justified
2007-12-20 12:54:01
Senator Bob Kerrey is getting a lot of flack for his comments recently while endorsing Hillary Clinton. Kerrey’s “error” was trying to approach Barack Hussein Obama’s Muslim heritage in any way, shape or form, because the politicos out there will jump all over that out of ignorance and fear no matter what Kerrey’s intent was, positive or negative. I couldn’t let this situation go by without making my own opinion heard. The simple fact is that all these talking heads that are so quick to try to analyze Bob Kerrey’s intentions with regard to his comments about Obama’s Muslim family members are all completely off the mark from what I have heard today. Both sides seems to think that it is either fine to bring up Obama’s Muslim heritage as an entirely positive thing or not to mention it in any other light. Both views are patently ridiculous and once again show the utter lack of fortitude and education that the average news-hound or p ...

Endorsement is the Question
2007-12-17 09:47:25
I listened to Hillary Clinton and Fred Thompson interviews on this morning’s early news. It got me to thinkin’. Who the heck is truly qualified to run this dog and pony show when Bush gives up the reigns? There are more candidates this time out of the gates than during the last two campaigns, but I still am left lukewarm to all of them. So, I think I’ll get a little help from my friends. Please enter your anonymous vote below. Think hard; like Winnie the Pooh. “Think, think, think!” I will be endorsing some candidate early next year. This poll may or may not sway me, but who knows? It certainly can’t hurt. Who should be the next President of the United States of America? No, I’m not dead, I’ve just been very busy and the Anvil has had to take a backseat to my outside obligations for a change. For instance, I had to take one of my pets in for surgery and he requires pain medication regularly; that sort of obligation. Not to mention the holidays are here. We all understand the extra burdens and stress this “festive” time of year can bring up. Ah, to be a simple child again… I haven’t been completely idle on the Anvil however. I tackled something the past couple of days that has been driving me out of my mind for far too long and that’s one word: Spam is a nightmare for everyone in today’s modern world. It is the weapon of choice of vermin all the way from impoverished hustlers in Africa to Islamic terrorists hiding right down the street in someone’s neighborhood here in the United States. It causes a huge waste of time and this affects the bottom-line for individuals as well as multi-billio ...
Atlas Shrugs: NIE ‘a work of fiction’
2007-12-12 10:10:05
Atlas Shrugs brings to light this morning information that proves that you do not always need to know all the facts to know when you are being lied to. My suspicions from just the other day about the validity of the NIE reports are being proven correct. Honestly, should anyone be very surprised? The evidence continues to mount that this NIE was a work of fiction. Critics from across the political spectrum have voiced skepticism about its conclusions and its methodology; European allies doubt its accuracy, the International Atomic Energy Agency (which normally “sides” with Iran) has raised serious objections. The only parties that seem to trumpet the NIE report are Iran, Russia, and China-our foes. Removing John Bolton from the United Nations was one of the dumbest political decisions to come out of D.C. in recent memory. Just like removing the bulldog Bolton from a job that he was doing so well, the National Intelligence Estimate is yet more smoke and mirrors in the same ...

Well, as a stint of jury duty approaches, it appears that I will not have as much time as usual to devote to the Anvil this coming week, so postings will slow down. Of course, they’ve slowed down already. My apathy is growing steadily, but maybe that’s just the holidays? Ho, ho, ho! Oh, wait, can I get arrested for laughing like Santa Claus? Or fired? Words of Warning to Commenters
2007-12-06 13:02:09
OK, I’m going to put this very plainly this afternoon for everyone that reads the Anvil, but mostly for a tiny few commenters that in recent weeks have spun more and more out of control. If you come here and curse like you are in a sports locker room or the local pool hall, I will immediately delete your post. Your time will be wasted and I will not blink an eye. If you continue to attempt to do so, or worse, if you show me or my readers utter lack of respect by dealing in personal attacks, especially, just for instance, believing you can come here and start calling me an ass#!$% or any other similarly “lovely” title, I will perma-ban you from the Anvil. Again, I will not blink an eye. This is my work here, folks. This is duty. I do not take this lightly. If anyone attempts to defame me by treating the comments sections here like a spittoon, my reaction will no longer be tolerant. I’ve seen what such tolerance has gotten me. Finally, as I have stated quite ...
