Guilty Pleasures

Paris Hilton had a spa day yesterday and exited wearing an Andy Warhol inspired shirt. The disturbing part is that someone actually made an Andy Warhol shirt with her image...and she wore it. Andy Warhol would so not approve."They" are remaking Footloose. I died a little inside when I read this. Zac Efron, of Hairspray and High School Musical, will be playing the tractor dancing part that Kevin Bacon turned iconic. Zac Efron, despite being borderline ugly, has managed to keep himself in the tabloids on a continual basis and it has obviously paid off. Still...Reports are that Britney Spears is off the wagon and has started binge drinking and eating. Well, well, well. Here is what one "source" close to Brit had to say:On several occasions, I have seen her pouring alcohol into energy drink cans. Britney requests that her alcohol be served in carafes rather than in bottles. Once, a waitress made the mistake of bringing her a bottle. Brit grabbed her arm and told her she couldn't be seen ...
Something Before Bed XXIII

An interesting perspective on the clash of civilizations. But does anyone listen?I remember living in NYC and seeing this in every subway car. It really does incite fear of your fellow man, which is the true aim of terrorism. We might as well concede defeat.I stumbled upon this today and couldn't help but find it amusing. Click on the image and read the article--it only gets better.Yes, I am a Harry Potter fan. Tomorrow Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is released and I'm excited to see if they can manage to create the same dark mood as in the book. Reviews have it that it is the most disturbing yet in the series. After having read the entire series I still prefer Order of the Phoenix over all of the others mainly because of the rebellion that begins. If only real life was this interesting. ...

Pope Benedict XVI approved a document today that asserts the Roman Catholic Church as the only true Christian church. The document also goes on to state that other Christian denominations are either defective or not true churches at all and that Catholicism is the only path to salvation. It isn't like he said anything that most Catholics didn't already believe and extol in mass. Oddly enough, wasn't he recently on a mission to unite the Christian faith for the better good? This doesn't seem to mesh with that. Charles Kimball, who wrote one of my favorite books, would have something to say. Kimball, in his nonfiction When Religion Becomes Evil stated that five warning signs emerge when a religion is no longer working towards a better humanity. Those five warning signs are as follows:Absolute Truth ClaimsBlind ObedienceEstablishing the "Ideal" TimeThe End Justifies Any MeansDeclaring Holy WarEnough said.Al Qaeda has officially waged war on Iran. The US is feigning ignorance. One news ...

CNN vs Michael Moore
2007-07-10 21:34:00
CNN ran a story trying to discredit Michael Moore's latest political documentary, Sicko. They then made the mistake of inviting him onto the show for a rebuttal. Wolf Blitzer received the full hit, thankfully. Here is the initial story:And Moore's response, which I saw on rerun earlier this morning:While Michael Moore's arrogance and in-your-face attitude is offputting to some, you can't help but love when he tells Blitzer and the media at large to stop lying to the American public and to tell the truth. I haven't seen Sicko, nor will I support or refute any claims made by the movie but I do wish the media would start telling the unbiased truth. ...
Constructive Graffiti
2007-07-10 21:09:00
Most people have an issue with graffiti because it defaces personal and/or public property. Some graffiti is funny, political or offensive. The new wave of graffiti is a bit more hi-tech and actually doesn't leave any marks. Here is just a sample of what I mean:Genius. ...
Apathy: The UnAmerican Way
2007-07-10 18:39:00
A very close friend of mine has her political views on Facebook listed as ?Apathetic?. She knows that this annoys me to not end because I equate apathy with the end of the world. In an age where opinions outnumber assholes, we have to assume that anyone without one isn?t worth our time. While I hate to admit it, bringing up a political hot topic in most public forums (besides the internet) will most likely end on a flat line. People are either too afraid to speak their minds or they think their opinion isn?t developed or informed enough. Then again, my friend has no interest in educating herself on any given topic that happens to fall into a political spectrum. What she doesn?t realize is that everything in the modern age is political, even her choice to remain out of it.Politicians make a common mistake of trying to go after votes that they already have. Take for instance John McCain who is making news because his campaign for the ?08 Republican Presidential nomination is nearly flat ...

Paris Hilton was at Teddy's the other night. She emerged from an SUV followed by a plume of pot smoke. Are we supposed to be shocked? Here is a witness' account from Page Six:...the newly spiritual heirhead emerged from an SUV in front of Hollywood club Teddy's the other night in what witnesses describe as a cloud of marijuana smoke. "She took a huge puff off of a joint, then opened the door and exhaled the pot smoke basically in my face," one clubgoer told us.So Paris Hilton is still a bitch. Good to know.Speaking of crazy bitches, reporters that were allowed backstage at Madonna's Live Earth concert were instructed to retain eye contact with Madge while asking her questions. They were not allowed to read their notes or questions and therefore had to have them memorized while looking the dragon in the eye. They were also instructed to leave out any reference to Guy Ritchie, her children or Kabbalah (is she still doing that?). So basically what Madge did was stare reporters down in ...
Something Before Bed XXII
2007-07-10 00:41:00
Many Things Before Bed would probably be a more apt title for tonight's ending post. The past few days have been pretty slow on the news front and I ran across this Garfield comic which managed to sum up my feelings on the past weekend:Speaking of comics, a new movie is coming out that I saw a trailer for earlier in the evening. I'm surprised it has been made into a movie but it still looks of interest, mainly because I love my dogs and my mother has always told me about this character:IKEA is taking an interesting stance on becoming green:Yet another reason to love the company.A major rumor is spreading across the net tonight. After today's announcement that Sony was cutting prices on the PlayStation 3, it appears that the company behind the main cause for the price cut is planning on doing the same. Microsoft is supposedly going to announce tomorrow night that it will be cutting the cost of its basic Xbox 360 package by $50. This would, in the end, rule out the change for Sony to ...
The Best Band in the World, in My Opinion (the only one that matters)
2007-07-09 23:29:00
That is a video from The Format's last album Dog Problems. Oddly enough I had never seen any of the band's videos and could care less. The music is enough to stand on its own. While the video is interesting, the main reason that I am posting this little fluff piece is to help the band out.A year ago Dog Problems was released. To commemorate the occasion the group is releasing their album for free, via their site. You can download every song and even the linear notes in PDF format. Trust me, the music is great and best of all, it is FREE!I bought the album myself and have never regretted it.Follow this link to get the goods. Spread the word. Constructive Graffiti

Well this is comforting. Reads like someone let George W. Bush and/or Dick Cheney loose with a can of spray paint.Careful, last time I posted something with this type of message a professor criticized graffiti as a viable means of passing on a political message. This one, is rather clear in my opinion.Motiveless Crime is on the rise. ...

Google has announced that it will be purchasing Postini, a web security program, for $729 million, a move that some are saying is an attempt at making its web application suite comparable to Microsoft's. Postini is known for its encryption and security services that cover instant messaging, email and web-surfing. Google released its own Google Apps, which aims at trying to soak up small business' in need if web security. This latest acquisition is just another sign that Google wants to move up the food chain by alluring larger businesses away from the flash of Microsoft Security.New satellite imagery shows activity outside of a major Iranian uranium enrichment facility which some analysts are saying is a sign that the country is trying to protects its nuclear weapons program from possible aerial attacks. Isn't this how the US validated attacking Iraq? Someone screamed WMD and the world came-a-runnin'. It appears that this time around the country in question is going to be prepared. ...

Scarlett, oh my pretty pretty Scarlett. She is in Barcelona shooting her third movie, in as many years, with Woody Allen. The picture reminded me why I loved her to begin with. Thank God she isn't in mom shorts and wearing that horrid nose-thing like last week. Word has it that the film is trying to portray Allen's vision of Barcelona in the same way that he defined Manhattan in Manhattan. Good luck with that. All I want is me some Scarlett (sans bullring).Harry Potter doesn't mind fans riding his wand. Recently Daniel Radcliffe has made some comments that basically state he will sleep with chicks who only like him because he is Harry Potter (but not if they call him Harry while in the sack). Wait, he has other things to offer? Radcliffe has also told a tabloid that riding a broomstick isn't fun because of his manbits. Ok, first the whole 'I'm naked on stage stabbing horses in the eyes thing', then publicly outcrying that he is a man-whore and now talking about riding his brooms ...

The Queen B (for bitch) left a private LA residence carrying "The Power of Acting"...am I the only one who just got the chills? I know Paris wants to change her image but I thought it was for the better. Paris used to be known as somewhat of a bully when it came to socialites. If she didn't like you, then anyone who wanted her to like them didn't like you. Well, all of that is over according to Hilton--she is planning to play nice with Lindsay Lohan. No word yet if Lindsay is withdrawing her claws too.PS I totally made up the "Queen B (for bitch)" which is being ripped off in the first link today. Don't think I didn't notice.Jessica Simpson may be dating Dane Cook again. While the man is funny, he certainly isn't a hot property. Jessica and Dane reportedly dated when they filmed that stupid comedy a year or so back. Now they've been seen partying together at some club. Who cares?Eva Longoria is now a married woman. She tied the knot in Paris' City Hall today in typical Chanel-li ...

Buyouts seem to be prominently figured in major media outlets lately. First it was YouTube being purchased by Google and quickly followed by their own multi-national release. That was a wonderful wakeup call to a lot of private equity groups which have since tried to buy our major media conglomerates such as Virgin Media. Here is just a sample of the past few day's buyouts:Google Buys GrandCentral CommunicationsGreat, now Google can rule communications. Seriously, this company needs to focus on what it has and stop branching out before it collapses under its own weight.Blackstone to buy Hilton for $26 billion cashThat is a sizable chunk of change. Blackstone has only been in public since the 22nd of June. It makes me wonder if the company planned this buyout to raise stock prices...isn't that cheating?CVC to acquire Samsonite for $1.1 billionSamsonite was near bankruptcy four years ago (dropping the prices of your over-hyped luggage might help) but managed to hold on and attain a lar ...
