ABA: Stop All Executions
2007-10-29 14:55:10
A source tells the Ross Report that the American Bar Association today urged a halt to executions in this country because of what it called the unfairness of the nation’s death penalty systems.
The ABA did not take a position for or against the death penalty itself, but said the death penalty systems are flawed by, among other things, racial disparities, inadequate legal defense services, irregular clemency review processes, spotty collection and preservation of DNA evidence, misidentification by eyewitnesses, and false confessions from defendants.
“After over three years of work the ABA has no confidence that fairness and accuracy are being provided in our death penalty systems,” the ABA’s Stephen Hanlon told a National Press Club news conference. “It is in that sense that the death penalty has become a cancer on the American justice system.”
The ABA studied the death penalty systems in Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania ...

Tancredo to Retire from House of Representatives
2007-10-29 11:27:14
My sources in DC have told me that Tom Tancredo has decided not to seek another term in the House.
A spokesman for the Colorado Congressman has confirmed he will not seek a sixth term.
Tancredo is running for the Republican presidential nomination, but the spokesman says the decision not to seek re-election is separate from that effort.
More than a dozen House Republicans have recently announced plans not to seek another term. Several, like Tancredo, aren’t seeking re-election but are running for other offices.
The champion of border security and immigration enforement has been trailing the front runners since he threw his hat in the ring.

Ed Rollins on the 2008 race
2007-10-29 07:38:09
I attended the Arab American Institute conference in Dearborn, Michigan this weekend, at which Republican Strategist Ed Rollins (who ran Christie Whitman’s 1993 campaign) spoke to the audience on a panel with his Democrat counterpart Peter Fenn and the pollster John Zogby (whose brother Jim is the president and founder of the AAI). Here is some of my report from Dearborn:
Finally, we heard from Ed Rollins. He started by identifying Bush’s shortcomings and said that we can’t have another failed presidency. There are no young “Bush Republicans” like the many that Ronald Reagan brought along.
As for 2008, he agreed with Fenn that this could be an election unlike any other. He identified a geographical divide in addition to an ideological one in that the GOP is now a “southern party”. He too said that Romney was waging a “brilliant campaign” and that Giuliani’s frontrunner status is based on his name ID, but that other things wi ...

Beck vs. Karcher - DING ! DING ! DING !
2007-10-28 20:44:23
Just finished watching the debate between challenger Assemblywoman Jennifer Beck (R) and current State Senator Ellen Karcher (D) for Karcher’s seat in the 12th district on NJN.
I understand that they only had 30 minutes for the debate, but they could have at least worked in some issues pertaining to Illegal Immigration, especially in light of the Newark murders 2 months ago, gay marriage, which will be an issue again sooner rather than later, abortion and the needle exchange program.
The moderator did ask about the Stem Cell research ballot question which both Beck and Karcher support. So, as they both talked about the state being broke and how to cut spending, they are both in favor of increasing our debt by 450 million dollars.
Go figure!
To much time was spent by Karcher bringing up Beck’s driving record and the supposed bench warrants for Beck’s arrest from those infractions, which were over a decade ago, although her line that Jennifer Beck has “more warr ...

Illegal Alien Survey Responses
2007-10-28 16:01:11
Every seat in the New Jersey Legislature is up for election this November and it is important for voters to have as much information about the candidate’s position on issues as possible. While campaigns across the state have focused on issues of taxes, spending, and ethics - and positions on those issues are known - we wanted to know more about the candidates.
Prompted by the Federal government’s failure to address ILLEGAL aliens and the August executions of three college students, Conservatives With Attitude forwarded a survey to every Republican and Democrat candidate concerning actions the state can undertake to address certain matters in relation to ILLEGAL aliens.
The questionnaire was simple; each candidate was asked to indicate whether they supported legislation for six proposals, and they were asked whether they would oppose any legislation for five proposals. The questionnaire reads as follows:
“I support legislation that will (please check all that a ...

Edwards: I Will Offer a New New Deal
2007-10-28 15:48:58
Presidential hopeful John Edwards promises that if elected president, he will introduce an entire new suite of programs similar to the programs introduced with the New Deal:
John Edwards says if he’s elected president, he’ll institute a New Deal-like suite of programs to fight poverty and stem growing wealth disparity. To do it, he said, he’ll ask many Americans to make sacrifices, like paying higher taxes.
Edwards, a former Democratic senator from North Carolina, says the federal government should underwrite universal pre-kindergarten, create matching savings accounts for low-income people, mandate a minimum wage of $9.50 and provide a million new Section 8 housing vouchers for the poor. He also pledged to start a government-funded public higher education program called “College for Everyone.”
What’s a little sacrifice from us greedy Americans, considering, you know, how under taxed we all are as it is:
At every stop, Edwards said, he tells voters h ...

Think Twice About Rudy’s Arguments
2007-10-27 07:58:07
Rudy Giuliani has been basing a large part of his campaign upon the argument that he is the candidate best suited to beat Hillary (or whoever is the Democrat candidate) in the general Presidential election. He claims he can do so because he could win traditionally Blue states - such as New Jersey - and therefore brings those states into play.
However, polls - such as the Rutgers-Eagleton poll released yesterday - do not support Rudy’s arguments.
In a general election match-up between Clinton and Giuliani, voters favored Clinton by a margin of 49 percent to 39 percent. Clinton held a narrow three-point lead over Giuliani in the August poll.
While Rudy continues his rhetoric about his viability as a candidate in the general election, conservatives in New Jersey know - based upon history - a liberal Republican cannot win New Jersey; and, the same will be the case in other traditionally Blue states. New Jersey Republicans have tried that tactic for the past five years to ...

Buchanan: Conservatism is a Tower of Babel
2007-10-26 10:04:15
A MUST read by Pat Buchanan:
“I was conservative yesterday, I’m a conservative today, and I will be a conservative tomorrow,” declared Fred Thompson to the Conservative Party of New York, billing himself as the “consistent conservative” in the GOP race – in contrast to ex-mayor Rudy Giuliani.
And, truth be told, Thompson was reliably conservative in his Senate years. But so, too, has John McCain been, and Ron Paul, Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo. Hunter, however, splits with Thompson and McCain on trade. Paul disagrees with all six of them on the war. And Tancredo assails McCain for backing Bush’s amnesty for 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens.
Will the real conservative please stand up? Or perhaps we should recall John 14:2, “In my father’s house there are many mansions.”
And Rudy? A McGovernite in 1972, he boasted in the campaign of 1993 that he would “rekindle the Rockefeller, Javits, Lefkowitz tradition” of Ne ...

Can Conservatives Agree to Disagree?
2007-10-26 07:41:33
Over the last couple months, as the presidential nomination has been heating up, there has been quite a bit of snippiness between Republicans on the whole notion of what it means to be a conservative. This site has not been immune to some heated discussions about what it means to be a Republican, a conservative and, for most of us, religiously active in our church.
The question really comes down to can conservatives, and I use that term broadly to pull in all but the radical-moderate Republicans, agree to disagree on issues and candidates in order to create a unified majority for success in 2008.
The question is as difficult to pose as it is to answer.
I’m going to do a post in the near future on what it means to be a conservative but for the purpose of this post we’ll assume the vast majority of Republicans are conservative, as are some portion of the Democrats, usually referred to as “Blue Dog” or “Reagan” Democrats.
The issue of unity, or disunity ...

Religion of Peace Condones Killing of the Innocent
2007-10-26 07:21:03
Oklahoma Governor’s Ethnic American Advisory Council distributed copies of the Quran to 149 State Lawmakers; DOZENS return book because of references to killing innocent women and children:
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Two dozen Oklahoma lawmakers plan to return copies of the Quran to a state panel on diversity after a lawmaker claimed the Muslim holy book condones the killing of innocent people.
The books were given to Oklahoma’s 149 senators and representatives by the Governor’s Ethnic American Advisory Council.
“Most Oklahomans do not endorse the idea of killing innocent women and children in the name of ideology,” Rep. Rex Duncan said.
He said he has researched the Quran on the Internet and believes it supports such killing.
“That’s exactly what it says,” Duncan said. “I think it’s pretty straightforward. By their own admission those are the exact words. They don’t all practice that.”
Duncan, a Republican, expressed ...

SCHIP Passes But Will FAIL Again
2007-10-25 17:36:13
The SCHIP bill reared its ugly head again in the House today and while it passed thanks to 43 Republicans, it still fell short of the veto proof margin it needed to overturn President Bush’s veto.
The bill was released to House members just last night at midnight and this vote was pushed through, hoping to catch enough Republicans in a trusting mood when told by Democrats that this version of the bill takes care of all the issues with the other version from 2 weeks ago.
Roy Blunt, the House Republican Whip tells us what is wrong with this bill:
“Many of us had hoped the majority would take our concerns to heart and come back with an SCHIP bill that extends quality health care to poor kids first. Instead, we got a hastily assembled bill that few of us were given an adequate chance to read – resulting in a final product that addresses none of the serious issues that have plagued the Democrats’ plan from the outset.
“The majority insists this is a bill about children’s hea ...

Illegal Immigrants Arrested for Stealing from Fire Evacuees!!
2007-10-25 15:02:51
Shocking. Six Illegal Immigrants were arrested for showing up at the stadium and stealing water and food. Border Patrol apprehended them and they confessed:
Six undocumented Mexican immigrants were arrested today by U.S. Border Patrol agents at Qualcomm Stadium, after a report that they were stealing food and water meant for evacuees, according to spokesman Damon Foreman.
San Diego police responded to a call about alleged theft from the evacuation center and encountered six people in a van who didn’t speak English and didn’t have California driver’s licenses, Foreman said. The police officers called the Border Patrol, who arrived at the stadium and made the arrests, he said. Foreman said the immigrants admitted they were Mexican citizens and that they were stealing.
Just on their way to the job that no American wants to do, they stopped off for a quick drink and a bite to eat. Maybe they should go visit Barbara Boxer’s house!!

Illegal Aliens Arrested For Stealing From CA Evacuees
2007-10-25 14:50:44
Good thing illegal aliens are here to do the jobs that Americans refuse to do!
From the LA Times:
San Diego: Six undocumented Mexican immigrants were arrested today by U.S.
Border Patrol agents are not looking for illegal immigrants at the center but will continue responding to police calls for assistance.
“We are not in any means at Qualcomm for enforcement capacity,” he said. “We are not there to take a ...

Blackburn Introduces Bill To Empower States in the Fight Against Illegals
2007-10-25 14:05:10
The is certainly a bill that everyone should support. The bill grants local law enforcement the authority to apprehend and detain criminal aliens:
To this end, Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) has introduced the Clear Act (HR 3494), which would give local officials the authority to apprehend and detain criminal aliens, so they can be turned over to federal agents in an expedited fashion. Blackburn’s bill would also allow for local law enforcement to have access to federal crime-tracking databases.
“We have narrowly drawn the legislation so that it just addresses the criminal aliens and absconders,” she said. “We are talking about individuals who are known lawbreakers. The Clear Act would close off existing loopholes so that it becomes more difficult for a criminal alien to remain in the country.”
The Clear Act would also help local officials who encounter illegal aliens involved with gang activity and drug trafficking operations, Blackburn explained. &ldq ...

Kid Nation
2007-10-25 12:43:52
Teens, toddlers and two-year olds are donating big money to Presidential candidates:
WASHINGTON - Elrick Williams’s toddler niece Carlyn may be one of the youngest contributors to this year’s presidential campaign. The 2-year-old gave $2,300 to Senator Barack Obama of Illinois.
So did her sister and brother, Imara, 13, and Ishmael, 9, and her cousins Chan and Alexis, both 13. Altogether, according to new campaign finance reports, the extended family of Williams, a wealthy Chicago financier, handed over nearly a dozen checks in March for the maximum allowed under federal law to Obama.
Is this legal?
Such campaign donations from young children would almost certainly run afoul of campaign finance regulations, several campaign lawyers said.
Congress tried to outlaw political contributions from those under 18 as part of the McCain-Feingold Act in 2002, but the Supreme Court struck down that provision as an infringement on the constitutional rights of minors.
With that ruling in ...
