Latin temperament on the countryside
2007-11-04 15:20:00
It seems the Cuban refugees who arrived one month ago are feeling themselves totally at home in Hungary. On Sunday drunken locals and Cubans were involved in a bar fight in Bicske, unfortunately the Hungarians lost and three of them were stabbed. According to tv2.hu their "dispute" had nothing to do with cultural differences, they were arguing about women. Anyway these guys tried to do 200km on the sea with post-apocalyptic trash veichles, I wouldn't mess with them, not even for women. So much for the first impression. ...
First Hungarian grand prix champion
2007-11-04 07:38:00
(Click for galleries)I'm going to be brief since I don't like sports and I can't write about them but the first Hungarian motor grand prix world champion TALMÁCSI Gábor deserves a few lines. Hector Faubel won the 125cc season-finishing race at Valencia today but this wasn't good enough to defeat TALMÁCSI who with this second place had the most points total in the season. Read a real article about the race here.photo from talma.origo.hu ...
Takie zycie: Parliament the hetero-friendly gay bar
2007-11-02 21:41:00
You have to travel with Wizz Air (and read reakció blog) to know the truth about Hungary. According to Wizzit the inflight magazine of Wizz Air the Hungarian Parliament turns out to be in Warsaw and is a hetero-friendly gay bar where you can party for 5 z?. Maybe the editor was drunk or just he is a hardcore copypaster but we suspect that he knows the truth about our legislative real nature. After this revealing article I'm not suprised that our top key words are still szávay, nude, pics, hookerprices and kurucinfo. ...
The minor country: Martin SCHULZ 's reaction to last week's riots in Budapest
2007-11-02 16:35:00
Well the quiet times are good for one thing (besides learning) to have time for reading. This video what I've found here on most and itt blog was recorded about one week ago on an EU Parliament session where the leader of the European Socialist Fraction, Martin SCHULZ is speaking about the urban disorders in Budapest during the national holiday. He says that it was up to everbody to decide to love or hate the Hungarian Prime Minister GYURCSÁNY Ferenc (MSZP) but calling him a "dirty jew" by the protesters was something that could not be accepted. This is a sign of fascism. After his speech only few MPs weren't clapping, among them two Hungarians. They are members of the opposing party FIDESZ and are looking in the distance confused of what to react. When I wrote previously about this topic I was absolutely sure that regulations like the Hatred Act are not needed in an adult country. I was absolutely sure that the vast majority of a society which accepts the fundamental and universal h ...
OFF: Old Hungarian Ads
2007-11-02 12:32:00
Well we have to disappoint those who hunger for news from Hungary. Nothing goes on. The headlines are about the all saints' day and newspapers are publishing their spared reports for quiet times like this. We don't want to leave you without something to read (or at least to scroll) though so here's our filler for the long weekend: Hungarian commercials from the 70's and 80's. In socialism because of the planned economy there existed no race between the state companies so commercials weren't advertising brands only single types of products (like buy milk or shoes) but we don't want to bore you with the details so click here to view our gallery or watch our video collection on our You Tube Channel. ...
SO SUED: New Hatred Act granted
2007-10-30 20:50:00
The parliament accepted amendments to the Hungarian civil code (PTK.§ 76/A) on Monday which allows compensation for those members of racial, national, ethnic, religious, ideological or sexual minorities who feel to be addressed by offensive statements concerning their minority. This is not a new debate in Hungary. Few years ago it appeared when the Constitutional Court examined an article in the Penal Code (Btk 269.§) which penalised two conducts: instigating and outrage against minorities. The Court nullified this second part of the article because it drew the line of limiting the freedom of expression between the two behaviours. They argued that both conducts are a threat to the public order but only instigation passes the thin line which justifies the limitation of freedoom of expression especially with the tools of penal law.Giving a possibility for compensation to the minorities is different. Civil law, which regulates the relations between individuals, is a suitable tool to prot ...
Ban or legalise? The Árpád-stripes
2007-10-29 07:39:00
Well we have a minute to meditate since nothing is going on in Hungary right now (except the out of date double-0-seven Rodger Moore's visit in Budapest) so let's do some catching up. If you follow our posts (and I know that lots of subscribers do) you could have seen this pattern, the so-called Árpád-stripe flag a lot. People often associate it with fascist and radical movements and say it should be banned like the Soviet red star and the Nazi swastika.History:This symbol is called the Árpád-stripes (árpádsáv) which is originally composed of 7 red and silver stripes and named after a House of Hungarian kings, the Árpáds who used this pattern first. To be exact it appeared first on king Imre's coat of arms (on the left) in the 12th century and rumor has it he stole the "pattern" from the Aragonian culture where his wife came from. By the way the Hungarian Guards use the same (ok almost the same) blazon on their uniform (on the right). This pattern appeared in the Hungarian h ...
OFF: Recalled film and the exile of the Hungarian Vulcans
2007-10-28 08:32:00
As index.hu reported Hungary had originally wanted to represent itself on the Venice Biennale with the animation films directed by NEMES Csaba which deal with last year's civil disorders during the 50th anniversary of the revolution in 1956. The main sponsor of the Hungarian delegation on the Venice Biennale, the Ministry of Education changed the decision of the jury in the last minute, probably because of the sensitive topic, and sent an other submitted work to the Italian exhibition. Parts of the film are ready though like the Combino Song above. Watch other parts of the film after the click. If you check out the comments for this combino song on YouTube you will see only love it or hate it responses. This is how Hungarians deal with last year's and this year's riots, disorders, uprage, revolution...etc and by the way with politics in general. You cannot find an emotion-free approach about what happened only the heroes' or the uruk hai orks' approach. This is why this film is a " ...

Our way or the highway: Hungarians should leave Transylvania says Funar
2007-10-26 19:13:00
Gheorghe Funar, leader of the Big Romania Party would pay 1000 € for those Hungarians who would leave Transylvania for good. The radical politician would send away those members of the minority who refuse to accept Transylvania's integrity with the country and the unity of the Roman nation. Damages would also include the price of overleft real estate and their travel expense but would only apply for those who are never to return. The ex-Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca) mayor spoke about this on Friday and said that he had already submitted the draft to the parliament. Transylvania (Erdély) was a part of Hungary until June 4 1920, when because of the Treaty of Trianon it became the part of Romania. ...
There was a blockade after all!
2007-10-26 09:08:00
(Click for galleries)At 8 o'clock protesters were assembling on the sidewalks of the Erzsébet bridge in Budapest and to the signal of the organizer NOVÁK El?d (which he gave with his side drum) they flow into the car line. The police were expecting this action and interrupted the blockade attempt. The participants were identified and those cars which "accidentally broke down" were removed from the site. The chase after the protesters went on for a few hours in the nearby districts but by 2 o'clock the order was restored. 66 people were arrested. The demonstration was announced by Kuruc.info a week ago in remembrance of the taxi blockade in 1990 and the Erzsébet bridge blockade in 2002. Their attempt weren't pointless because the traffic broke down in the whole downtown for hours first because of the protesters and then because the police maneuvers. The taxi blockade. On 25 October 1990 after the first democratic local government elections few taxi drivers went to Heroes' square i ...

Radicals are planning to block Erzsébet bridge in Pest tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock. The police is going to try to dissolve the "spontaneous" demonstration, but the event will probably cause quite a traffic jam in the rush hours. The hearing of TOROCZKAY László (who was arrested on Monday) was held today on the Metropolitan Court. The summary proceeding couldn't been completed because according to the court TOROCZKAY could be suspected of committing additional crimes too, so they transfered the case to the prosecutor's office for further investigation. The radical politician is now accused of incitement against the public and assaulting officials because he sent the protesters to the Opera House during Monday night where they clashed with the police. TOROCZKAY was the one who had told the demonstrators last year to go to the State TV where later they stormed the building. He was then held responsible for his action and was charged with the damage caused during the riot.Metro 4's ...

BILLBOARD HACK: Fascist pictures placed on the route of the Guard's swear-in ceremony
2007-10-22 10:21:00
During yesterday's swear-in ceremony these billboards could been seen on the avenue (on Andrássy út) where the Guards were marching. According to the signature they were placed by MSZP, FIB (the youth organisation of MSZP), the Anti-fascist league and the DEMÉNY Pál foundation, and they all refer to the similarity between the Guards and the Hungarian fascist party during the second World war (to the so-called cross arrow movement). The pictures show the members marching on the same square 62 years ago and the people killed by them. This hacking attempt didn't draw the attention of the media, I only found the posters accidentally on Tomcat's blog, and I guess it didin't have any effect on the Guard members either, maybe had a good laugh on them but thats all. Anyway this whole thing gives me the creeps. ...
