FRONTLINE: Cheney’s Law | PBS.org
2007-10-17 02:29:28
For three decades Vice President Dick Cheney conducted a secretive, behind-closed-doors campaign to give the president virtually unlimited wartime power. Finally, in the aftermath of 9/11, the Justice Department and the White House made a number of controversial legal decisions. Orchestrated by Cheney and his lawyer David Addington, the department interpreted executive power in an expansive and extraordinary way, granting President George W. Bush the power to detain, interrogate, torture, wiretap and spy — without congressional approval or judicial review. Read more » Watch the full documentary here about how the Bush administration has tried to consolidate dictatorial power in the executive branch, from even before 9-11. Condoleezza Rice: Decries Power-Hungry Chief Executive
2007-10-14 18:08:00
These statements coming from Condoleezza Rice about Russia are pretty ironic considering you could substitute Bush’s dictatorial regime for the Putin regime. The Russian government under Vladimir Putin has amassed so much central authority that the power-grab may undermine Moscow’s commitment to democracy. “In any country, if you don’t have countervailing institutions, the power of any one president is problematic for democratic development.” “I think there is too much concentration of power in the Kremlin. I have told the Russians that. Everybody has doubts about the full independence of the judiciary. There are clearly questions about the independence of the electronic media and there are, I think, questions about the strength of the Duma,” said Rice, referring to the Russian parliament. Rice’s State Department frequently has criticized what Washington regards as creeping authoritarianism among Putin and other top Russian leaders. What about the creeping aut ...

Would You Send Your Child To Die In Iraq?
2007-10-03 11:34:46
The Bush Administration has been very careful to make sure most Americans do not have to make any sacrifices (at least while he is in office) for his illegal and morally wrong war and failed foreign policies. The war has cost over 500 BILLION dollars and he keeps asking for more… but no increase in taxes… where is the money coming from? Bush is mortgaging our children and our grandchildren’s future while he lives in his and the Republican’s fantasy land world. Our voluntary military is so desperate for recruits you no longer need a high school diploma. Have a criminal record? No problem. Not a US citizen? No problem. Even lowering standards has not been enough, how about $20,000 to report in 30 days with up to another $25,000 later. Why is this not a problem for Bush? Because these recruits come from the middle and lower income American families, not the $5000 a plate Republican chicken hawks chicken shits. So long as it’s not their sons and daugh ...

Condoleezza Rice or CondoSleezza Rice?
2007-09-29 11:15:37
We all know Bush & Company will do ANYTHING to continue the fraudulent and illegal sham that they are perpetuating on the American people. The words truth, honor, justice, integrity, and protect the Constitution have, in the Bush White House, become falsehoods, dishonesty, injustice, deceit, and betrayal of the Constitution. The only person left in the Administration that might have had even a smidgen of integrity left was Condolezza Rice. But even she has fallen to the dark side of the Force. Some of the methods the Administration has used over the years is to use the cover of “National Security”, “National Interest” and “Executive Privilege” to hide their illegal activities and failed policies from the American people. National Security means Bush’s Security, National Interest means Bush’s interest, and Executive Privilege means Fuck off Congress. The less the people and Congress know, the better. The latest example of the Ad ...

President Bush, Whose Ass Are We Kicking and How Do We Know?
2007-09-26 10:57:28
This is a 1 minute speech Congressmen John Yarmuth (D-KY03) gave on the House floor yesterday. He asks Bush a couple of questions that Bush has never been able to answer. With brave American soldiers dying in record numbers, I have two questions for the President — just whose posteriors are we kicking and how do you know? With Sunnis and Shiites killing themselves and each other, plus an incompetence Maliki government, we don’t know who we’re fighting, much less where we’re kicking them. And while we’re tied up in Iraq, Al Qaeda thrives in Pakistan and Afghanistan. So the President’s turn of phrase will go to the blooper hall of fame with other Bush Golden Oldies like last throes, links to Al Qaeda and Mission Accomplished. There was a time when America’s success meant defeating Nazis, tearing down communism’s Iron Curtain and walking on the moon. Supportng our troops meant honest safeguards, not trash talk. How low have our standards fallen when the President points ...

Pink’s “Dear Mr. President”
2007-09-22 20:00:49
I don’t think I have ever posted any music on this site before. But there is always a first time. This video is from the group Pink and is from their new DVD Pink - Live From Wembley Arena. As Bush becomes more and more isolated from the real world, he only talks to and sees people who tell him what he wants to hear. He lives in his own little bubble, seeing what he wants to see, hearing what he wants to hear. All the while his actions are killing and maiming tens of thousands of our sons and daughters, crippling the Military for years to come because of his irresponsible actions. $500,000: The amount the war in Iraq costs per minute, according to a new analysis by Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz and Harvard’s Linda Bilmes, put out by the American Friends Service Committee. The study finds that this $720 million a day could buy homes for 6,500 families or health care for 423,529 children. Dear Mr. President listen to this song.. it may not be relevant to you ...

Special Comment: The President of Hypocrisy
2007-09-21 01:44:26
Olbermann to Bush Your hypocrisy is so vast Olbermann: So the President, behaving a little bit more than usual, like we would all interrupt him while he was watching his favorite cartoons on the DVR, stepped before the press conference microphone and after side-stepping most of the substantive issues like the Israeli raid on Syria, in condescending and infuriating fashion, produced a big political finish that indicates, certainly, that if it wasn’t already – the annual Republican witch-hunting season is underway. Senate Republicans Vote to Destroy Families
2007-09-19 19:51:36
Today Senate Republicans showed once again that they don’t give a damn about the lives and families of our soldiers. By a vote of 56-44 the Senators that support our troops were unable to get the 60 votes needed to clear a GOP filibuster. The roll call confirms that the only change in voting was that John Warner decided to vote against it this time, a change that was offset by Dem Tim Johnson’s return into the Senate. Also, GOP Senators David Vitter and Sam Brownback, who were no-shows last time, showed up to vote no this time. Not a single Republican moved from the No to the Yes column. Harry Reid responds to the defeat of the Webb measure: “In blocking this bipartisan bill, Republicans have once again demonstrated that they are more committed to protecting the President than protecting our troops. They have shown they will allow President Bush’s flawed war strategy to continue to strain our military rather than allow the availability of troops to dictate our operati ...
Support the Troops, Support the Webb Amendment
2007-09-18 21:58:19
Senator Jim Webb made an exclusive video to explain why Congress must support the troops and pass the “Webb Amendment,” on Wednesday. He asks us to call our elected officials and tell them to support this very simple, but important measure. It received 56 votes last time it was introduced, but was filibustered by the Rubber Stamp Republicans which included McConnell and Warner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEIWzLjr2yk Please call and ask these senators to support Jim Webb’s pro-troop amendment: Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) DC: 202-224-6665 Anchorage: 907-271-3735 George Voinovich (R-Ohio) DC: (202) 224-3353 Cleveland: (216) 522-7095 Elizabeth Dole (R-North Carolina) DC: 202-224-6342 Raleigh: 866-420-6083 John Warner (R-Virginia) DC: (202) 224-2023 Roanoke: (540) 857-2676 Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) DC: 202-224-2541 Louisville: 502-82-6304 Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania) DC: 202-224-4254 Harrisburg: (717) 782-3951 Technorati Tags: Iraq, Patraeus, Surge, Videos, War Share Th ...
It Came From Planet Bush
2007-09-14 17:31:28
From the Washington Post In the alternate universe that President Bush occupies, he gave a smashing speech last night. Over there, the people of Iraq need our help to save them from the al Qaeda terrorists who intend to overthrow their brave and united government on the way to attacking America. It’s a battle of good versus evil. We have 36 countries fighting alongside us. And the fight is going very well indeed. Ordinary life is returning to Baghdad. But over here in the real world, things are different. Iraq is mostly ruled by armed gangs, not a central government. American troops are dying in the crossfire as the country continues to violently disintegrate along ethnic and sectarian lines. We’re in it pretty much alone. There’s no end in sight. And the real al Qaeda is regrouping in Pakistan. Bush opened with this astonishing vision: “In Iraq, an ally of the United States is fighting for its survival. Terrorists and extremists who are at war with us around th ...
