Morality the Robin Hood way
2007-08-06 02:47:00
I was given this dilemma during a superbly rockin' dinner party last Saturday. This story is about morality and ethics. Robin Hood was captured by the Sheriff of Nottingham and is scheduled to be hanged the next day.Maid Marion, Robin's fiancee, went to the Sheriff to plead for Robin's life. The Sheriff told her he would free Robin if Maid Marion slept (yes, it means go all the way) with him that night. So she did.The Sheriff then released Robin. But after finding out that his fiancee slept with his arch enemy, a disgusted and enraged Robin broke off the engagement with Maid Marion. He told Maid Marion that he doesn't want to ever see her again.Hurt by the man she sacrificed herself for, she turned to Little John - Robin's best mate. Little John welcomed Maid Marion into his arms naturally because he's always had a thing for her.Ok. So rank these four characters - Robin Hood, Sheriff of Nottingham, Maid Marion and Little John - in terms of the most moral and ethical character to th ...
Discount coupons on the internet
2007-08-06 02:41:00
I love getting a discount when shopping. Which is why I'm excited that I've found some coupons on this website for some great shopping deals. One of my favourite is the Petals deals. I usually buy gifts for friends and families online as many of them are overseas. Any discount would help my cash strapped situation! My other favourite is for BriteSmile deals. The coupon codes offer $75 off your teeth whitening treatment at BriteSmile. Perfect for your wedding day. Unless you're a celebrity or a model, your wedding day will be the day you'll be most photographed. So won't you want your smile to be at its best and brightest?**Sponsored post** Synergylyn will be paid $5 ...

Caucasian vs Chinese names
2007-08-02 01:00:00
Caucasian names have the individual's name first and the family's name last (duh!). But it is also an interesting coincidence that in Western society, the me-centred theology is prevalent. That is, it's all about the individual rights - I want to have a nice car; I think my opinions matter the most; I want to do it my way. And the individual rights most often goes above the family's or society's rights. But note Chinese names. The FAMILY name comes first. Then the individual's name. Chinese traditional dictates that Chinese children should be filial. To put their parent's, family's and society's needs above theirs. Perhaps a legacy from Confucius' teachings.Lately however the rights of the society/family is slowly falling below the individual's rights with more and more Chinese people exposed to the Western me-me-me culture. Is it then a coincidence that more and more Chinese people are adopting English names to go in front of their family names?A sign of things to come, mayb ...
DIY Home Improvements
2007-07-30 22:35:00
Home renovations are neverending for us. We’re currently doing up our second bathroom because it’s leaking and damaging the walls. It’s been quite an experience which is still going on.Since we moved into our house about 2 years ago, we’ve been constantly buying furniture, fixtures etc. If you’ve been to my place, you would’ve noticed some areas are still without lighting fixtures. So I’ve look at this lighting website and it looks like I’ve got my work cut out for me with all these available designer lights such as George Kovacs lighting and Murray Feiss lighting.Too many choices!**Sponsored post** synergylyn will be paid $10 ...
European hotels
2007-07-30 22:31:00
Aside from our Hong Kong trip where we have kinda decided on the hotel we’ll be staying in, the Bert and I are also planning to go to the Greek Islands or somewhere in Europe end of next year. Obviously I’ve heard stories about horror hotels around Europe. And I think traveller ratings about hotels are very important when I decide on the choice of hotels to go with. We’re thinking of going to London, Paris and maybe Rome. But also definitely the Greek Islands. Mum and dad went to Prague and they loved it. I think I should pick their brains on Prague hotels. ...
Obesity is contagious!
2007-07-26 23:17:00
Geez. First is the bird flu, then it's SARS. Now it's obesity?Studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine shows that your risk of being obese increases if you hang out with people who are obese. For example, people whose siblings became obese were themselves 40 per cent more likely to grow obese, while people whose spouses became obese were 37 per cent more likely to.I was dicussing the finer points of the study with my friend. We were both terrified at the news.synergylyn: stop asking me about elephants!synergylyn: i'm trying not to think about them!synergylyn: lest i get their virusB: well you should hang out with anti-elephants so you dont have to worry about elephantitis getting yousynergylyn: ahahahahhahaha... elephatitis! hahahahsynergylyn: well i'm sure hanging out with the male anti-elephants will have the same effect!B: nopesynergylyn: why not!B: guys are generally heavier than girls...synergylyn: that is trueB: sorry thats how it is !synergylyn: but i think a ...
The real Harry Potter 7 e-book!
2007-07-23 00:02:00
A visit to the bookshop to compare the first few pages of this version of the e-book has been made. It is exactly the same.A random comparison of chapter names have been made from the book scans from Harry Potter fans.I reckon one can never be too careful with information on the internet. If you downloaded one where it starts with Harry on Privet Drive bin it. That is a fan fiction version.Enjoy the real version here:Download Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ...
Political correctness is killing us!
2007-07-17 22:28:00
I’ve been thinking about this. Yes I think a lot when I’m not busy at work, hence the constant blog updates!Anyway, I was thinking about political correctness in Australia and how being politically correct influences our lives. Imagine a mother and her obese son.Situation 1: The mother smacks the son on the bum for being naughty.Situation 2: The mother feeds the son a double quarter pounder with cheese meal at McDonalds. Both situations present similar actions – the act of the mother “harming” her son. But political correctness tells us it is not right to tell the Situation 2 mother off for slowly killing her son with junk food as it implies that her son is obese. Political correctness also tells us that it is our duty to tell the Situation 1 mother off for smacking her son as children have to be saved from abuse. So the Situation 1 mother is more likely to get told off for being wrong than Situation 2 mother. Because it is more politically correct to kill your son slowly with ...
Is it ok to talk about a stranger’s food within his/her earshot?
2007-07-16 23:49:00
It irks me when people do this. I’ll be sitting at a restaurant. My ordered food arrives. The people in the next table suddenly suffers from plastic neck disorder. They whiplash and craned their necks to see what my table’s got. Then you hear:“Oh that noodles look good. I think we should change our order.”“But maybe not that chicken. The colour is too orange for me.”“Maybe we should also get beef, like them. Smells good”.All these carry-ons while staring at our food like hungry little Oliver-type orphans asking for more with their eyes.I feel like shouting, “OI! Look what! Might as well come over, dig your fingers into the beef and stick it in your mouth.”So the question is, is it ok to talk about a stranger’s food within his/her earshot and noticeably point at it? ...
Online trip planners - cool stuff!
2007-07-16 23:17:00
I’m a huge fan of any online trip planner. I’ve used a few of them to plan my trip to America last year. This trip planner doesn’t only allow you to lay out your itinerary and share it with other travellers, but it also allows you to read other travellers’ real experiences during their travel. From this trip planner, I’ve already got some great tips for my next trip to Hong Kong. Apparently there’s a light show in Hong Kong at 8pm EVERYDAY! And there's shopping and food. Can't wait! **Sponsored post** Synergylyn will be paid $10 for this post. ...
Is Australia in danger of becoming a bad carbon copy of the US?
2007-07-16 01:36:00
Dr Mohamed Haneef was arrested for alleged links to the recent Glasgow bombing. This morning, he was released on bail by the magistrate pending his trial for his terrorist links to the bombing. Now Mohamed Haneef’s in “immigration detention”. Apparently he fails the “good citizen” test and had his visa cancelled.Let me get this straight. From Mohamed Haneef's presumed guilt, he had his visa cancelled, making him an illegal immigrant. Therefore he’s being held in immigration detention. He can’t go back to India because he has to stay to face trial on his suspected terrorism links. And because Dr Haneef's visa is cancelled he is an illegal immigrant etc etc etc. You know what I mean. This is so reminiscent of the David Hicks incident. He was held in Guantanamo Bay in the US without charge but presumed guilty of terrorist links. So many Australians made a huge kafaffel about the abuse of his basic human rights.Where are those Australians now?Oh I forget. They go into hiding ...

Generosity - where do I draw the line?
2007-07-11 20:12:00
A weird thing happened on the way to work today.A man got on the bus at one of the stops. He took out a few pieces of paper from his wallet and showed the bus driver. Words were exchanged between him and the bus driver, which grew more and more heated.I gathered from the snippets that I heard was that the man couldn’t pay for the bus fare because he didn’t have a cent on him. The bus driver refused to take him to the city, even when a little old lady sitting in front paid for him.A stand-off ensued with the rest of the bus passengers as innocent hostages. After about 5 minutes of the bus driver refusing to drive off from the stop, the man got off the bus in a huff.I got thinking. What is right and what is wrong here?Obviously we all should be generous. Especially as a Christian, I’ve been thought to live a generous life. In this aspect, I would say the bus driver is wrong. He should be generous and empathise with the poor man who doesn’t even have $2 to pay for his fare to the c ...

2007-07-09 20:01:00
With four cars for three persons living in my place, parking in our double garage takes a little manoeuvring. But now, look at this garage storage solution!! A car lift! That will solve my problem. Four cars in a double garage. That's such an efficient use of space. But of course Tiff will be on top. Not at the bottom like this guy's poor Porsche! **Sponsored post** Synergylyn will be paid $5. ...

2007-07-06 07:14:00
Oh joy!! Tiffany's BACK! Safe and sound, warmly tucked away in her bedroom. We had to wait for two weeks for her parts to arrive from Germany and another week for them to be transplanted. And she's running smooth as silk now. She's cost us plenty a pretty penny but I reckon she's worth it.Welcome back, Tiff darling! ...
