This is my story of a teenager with heart trying to change the world; one act of random kindness at a time. |

#10 - No Money?
2007-07-12 09:16:00
When you go out with friends, and lets to go to a pizza shop to grab some lunch. There's always one kid who doesn't have money. Everything says too bad and ha ha.I used to be like that, but after this blog when I ran into the same problem with one of my friends. I kindly slipped him $5 so he could get pizza and a coke. Problem fixed, hey, it's only $5 I'll get over it.On top of that random act of kindness, I also held the door open, said please and thank you, and gave a donation to the lost child box next to the cash register. People have to realize that little things like this really make a difference. You may not even realize your being kind, but you really are.------------Did you do any random acts of kindness today? ...

#9 - Trumpet... and Spit?
2007-07-11 10:52:00
During the summer I go to a three week band camp that goes from 3-5, and consists on Concert Band, Lessons, and Jazz Band. As the title says I play the trumpet, and yes their's spit involved with all brass instruments. (I know, gross, but it gets worse)Everyones playing, and steaming up in the relatively small room. Listening to the music our conductor is proud how far we've come. When the bell rings it's time to pack up. Stand down, music away, mouth piece off, and spit valve emptied. Just so everyone knows a spit valve is where all the condensation in the trumpet comes out of when you push the button.I'm just laxing a bit; taking my time when I see everyone just open up the valve right on the floor. In my head I'm like that's disgusting, so as my act of kindness toward the band conductor and the people who own the building I swiftly walked to the trash can, and emptied my spit there.-----------------Did you do any random acts of kindness today? ...

#8 – Show Time
2007-07-10 09:32:00
I bet most of you reading this have had some disagreement with a decision made by someone in your family. Whether it’s where to eat or an opinion on a certain matter, you’ve all done it. Well in my family, I always disagree on what to watch on TV. Since we only have one big screen TV in our house, everyone wants to watch it there, including my Mom and Dad. Yesterday night I wanted to watch CSI: Miami, but it just so happens that my Mom already saw that episode. (Who knows if she really did?) Now she starts to ramble on about this movie that she saw in the TV Guide, and she wants to watch it so badly. (How to Eat Fried Worms) This leads to the conclusion of my putting the white flag up, and letting her watch the movie. Not only was my act of kindness the allowance of the movie, but I was also kind enough to sit down and watch it with my Mom.-----------------Did you do any random acts of kindness today? ...

#7 – “Want to go play?”
2007-07-09 08:32:00
Having neighbors that are much younger then you is hard. Every other day this 3rd grader going into 4th grade named Matt rings my bell and asked if I want to go play with him. Almost all the time I have an excuse like I’m having dinner or I’m doing homework. Today, the first time he’s rung the bell in summer, I decided to actually play with him outside. It was boring shooting hoops, playing one-on-one, and jumping on the trampoline, but I figured it’s the least I could do for this kid. Inside that act of kindness I was able to fold in another one. Which was going easy on the little guy, and letting him beat me in basketball.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Did you do any random acts of kindness today? ...

#6 – Adios Amigos
2007-07-08 10:21:00
“Hurry put the bag in the car, the plane is leaving soon,” Said my Dad. Everyone was frantically getting ready because my brother was going to China for 17 days with the People to People Ambassador Program. I was just laying low in my room, slightly jealous, but knew I would be going somewhere soon. When I heard the garage door go up, I had to follow my Moms instructions of hugging my brother and saying good bye. Everyone thinks hey, no big deal, but when I think back to all those “brotherly love” fights and all those times he’s cursed at me it’s hard. I thought, “Hey does he really deserve a good-bye.” Deep down I knew it was the right thing, so I went with that gut feeling and said good-bye. Yep, that’s my act of kindness today.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Did you do any random acts of kindness today? ...

#5 - Good Night
2007-07-07 08:53:00
I take my hot shower, jump into my PJ’s, and then slide right into the cozy covers of my bed. The long day has ended, and my mind starts to drift away when I hear, “Andrew, did you go to bed yet?” At that moment I knew it was my Mom, and I knew what she wanted. The dreaded good night kiss. When you’re a teenager it’s hard to open up to your Mom because you feel like its overrated or just plain embarrassing. Of course, everyone realizes what sacrifices a Mom has to take to raise a child. As my token of appreciation I'm always wiling kiss my Mom goodnight. Yes, that’s my act of kindness for tonight, and for each and every night that my Mom is home when I go to bed. I hope this is a message to everyone, young and old, to appreciate their Moms (and Dads)- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Did you do any random acts of kindness today? ...

#4 – Please and Thank You’s
2007-07-06 09:47:00
I have a lot of friends that I go and do things with, but I only have a few “close friends” if you will. They are the people I will go to when I’m in distress about something, or just really bored. Along with these friends come knowledge about their life and about their habits. One of those things is saying “Please and thank you.” I’ve bought lots of things with this friend (not going to mention his name without permission), and he’s notorious for not saying anything to the cashier like please and thank you. Today when we went to 7/11 to get some Slurpee’s. I went to the cashier, and bought the drink. Of course I said thank you (My act of kindness), but when I waited for my friend he too paused and said thank you. I was amazed, but then realized something when writing this post. My goal is actually starting to work. I got my friend to say thank you, and hopefully he will keep this attribute. Then maybe he will cause some of his friends to say thank you, ...

#3 - 4th of July!
2007-07-05 09:25:00
As you all probably know yesterday was 4th of July. I just wanted to see how everyones plans went, and if they saw any fireworks.Of course I couldn't let a random act of kindness go by, so yesterday on 4th of July I took the time to watch the 30 minute Macy's fireworks with my Mom and Dad. I'd have to say it was pretty spectacular.-------------------------------Did you do any random acts of kindness today? ...

#2 – Summer Baseball
2007-07-04 10:17:00
Everyone on the team is hot and sweaty. Slugging over to the dugout after a tough loss, we finish our Gatorade's and toss them to the ground. I walk over to the fence to gather my things when I look back. I see a dugout littered with empty bottles and sun flowers seeds. At that moment I come to a cross-roads in my mind. Clean up or run off. Thinking about this blog I decide to show my kindness to Mother Nature, and I clean up. With all this buzz about global warming, I find it to be very important to look after the environment. Not to mention I got a pat on the back from the coach. Maybe he will move me up in the lineup now.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Did you do any random acts of kindness today? ...

#1 - A Walk Around the Block
2007-07-03 08:20:00
Nike's tied, iPod pumped to full volume. I'm ready for my morning walk around the block. I'm not alone, quite the opposite. There's the dog walker struggling to hold onto the leash, she waves, I look away. There's the slow moving car as the driver prepares for work, he waves, I look away. Whether it's being told not to talk to strangers, or watching the headlines where a kidnapping is everyday news. You may think I'm being rude, I may think I'm being safe.Today's walk is different then the others though. I decide to wave and smile back to the young women rolling the stroller along the curb.Yes, if your thinking that's my petty random act of kindness your right, but if you think it's actually petty your much mistaken. My smile and wave could have made her day, my smile and wave could of stopped her from jumping a building, my smile and wave could of saved her life.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Did you do any random act of kindness today? ...
