Yay, Snow!
2007-09-12 19:04:00
What is it with snow that makes Asians go berserk? Ok, not all Asians since many Asian countries also have the four seasons. Well, Malaysians anyway. I was viewing some blogs about snow and winter sceneries and I just had to dig up some old photos of mine to post. Hahaha...it was a trip I made to Ontario, Canada about 13 years ago??!!! ...
Haunting Owl
2007-09-11 10:39:00
When I first caught sight of a real life owl, I was really frightened. I was doing some cleaning at this rather deserted house. Suddenly I felt someone watching me from behind. I can literally felt EYES watching me, following every move I made! When I turned, my feet got rooted to the ground and I almost panicked as I gazed into these big round eyes.At first gaze, I thought it was a statute that I had somehow missed or overlooked. But those penetrating eye wouldn't leave me. I started to move to one side and those eyes kept following me, like a robotic camera! It was spooky indeed. When I finally realized that was a real owl, I was so amazed by it and started to admire it.Images taken from Wikipedia ...
Closed Circuit Boss
2007-09-11 01:21:00
According to the Technology Review, "The monitoring of employees is increasingly being done by machines. Much more is being monitored, and the monitoring has expanded from the production line to the office."I am talking about using closed circuit cameras and videos to monitor the performance of employees. Industries that uses these closed circuit televisions or video cameras most are banks, insurance companies, hotels, casinos, telephone companies and the airline industries. There has been much debate about the public security versus privacy over the use of such monitoring.Advocates of computer monitoring said that the practice gives a more accurate evaluation of a worker's performance than a human manager that is subjected to his or her own prejudices. It is claimed that individual's work skills are less likely to be overlooked by a computer, thus allowing an organization to more easily identify its high-achieving employees and reward them appropriately. On the other hand, computer m ...

Wire Diet
2007-09-05 09:39:00
Have you heard of a dental procedure called Jaw Wiring* for treatment of obesity? When I first read about it, my common sense outrightly said that this is so barbaric! Sounds almost like a punishment or some inhumane torture of some sort. Nevertheless, it is suppose to be a painless bonding method to fix the position jaw and teeth. So no anesthesia is needed.Orthodontic jaw wiring is a fixed intra-oral, bio-mechanical device and method for treating and controlling compulsive overeating and obesity. The device is composed of orthodontic brackets attached to the teeth, and pliable wire wrapped either around or through the brackets. The brackets are optimally positioned with respect to the anterior?posterior position of the lower jaw. The wiring is configured to suspend the patient’s lower jaw in a semi-closed, partially movable resting position which permits a moderate amount of physiologic jaw movement and relatively clear speech, while inhibiting the ingestion of solid foods.* Imag ...
Insurance
2007-09-05 05:04:00
How does one view insurance ? In certain cultures, it is viewed as a taboo. Like when you speak about paying something to someone BEFORE an accident or illness happens, that incident WILL happen as you don't wish. So folks generally don't want to mention the unwished. However, gone are those err...superstitious(?) days. Today, insurance is viewed more like a way to share risk with others. Insurance is not necessarily an investment from which one expects to get one’s money back. Nor is it gambling. A gambler takes risks, while insurance offers protection against risks that already exist. Insurance is based on the principle of paying money now for financial protection in the future, so it is not surprising that the insurance industry attracts more than its share of swindlers. This is true in developed as well as developing economies. Therefore, one is wise to beware of so-called low-cost insurance and to be alert to any other questionable insurance scheme. Too many hopeful buyers hav ...

Humour in your Life
2007-08-30 04:32:00
It was a cold winter day, and the steps were covered with ice. The first one who attempted the descent nearly fell. The next one in line announced: “Now this is the way to do it!” No sooner were the words out of his mouth than down he went—flat on his back. An instant of alarmed silence, then bursts of laughter from bystanders after seeing that he was unhurt. The ability to laugh is a God-given trait, a gift from the One described in the Bible as “the happy God.” Not surprisingly, then, creation is full of humorous things—kittens and puppies with absurd antics, a lion cub chewing on its mother’s tail until it gets swatted, baby monkeys chasing and tumbling over one another through the branches. There is humor all around us, waiting to be observed and appreciated. This is not to say that all people laugh at the same things. On the contrary, what is funny often depends on one’s culture, personality, background, and mood, as well as other factors. Virtually everyone, tho ...
Japanese Dolls to curb loneliness?
2007-08-29 03:54:00
For grandparents who live far away from their grandchildren and seldom get to see them, a Tokyo firm has a solution: Send the firm a picture of the baby, and in six weeks you will receive a look-alike doll. “Only it doesn’t end there,” reports New Scientist. “A digital microchip recorder inside the doll records the baby’s early gurgles, so it even sounds like your baby. Simply hold the doll’s hand and it will play back the baby’s voice—or whatever else you record. According to The Nikkei Weekly, the $400 doll is mostly ordered by grandparents who rarely see their offspring’s offspring.” ...
Popcorn-A Satifying Snack
2007-08-27 17:23:00
Hmm...what is it about Popcorn that makes us salivate at the mention of it or look at it?POPCORN is no “junk food.” It is a nutritious whole-grain snack. The kernel is practically all hard starch, but inside it there is a tiny amount of moisture that turns into steam when heated and explodes into a fluffy, fragrant, white ball 30 to 40 times its original size. At the same time that warm, tantalizing aroma fills the room. Its Value as a FoodNutritionist Kay Munsen of Iowa State University says: “Plain popcorn is an ideal snack. It is not sugary, sweet, fatty, too salty, expensive, or fattening.” And Dr. Betty Alford, chairman of nutrition and food sciences at Texas Women’s University, has stated that one big advantage of eating popcorn is that “it’s filling but you’re not ingesting a lot of calories.” In fact, one cup of unbuttered popcorn has 23 calories compared to 230 calories in one cup of corn chips. If you don’t drink anything the whole time you’re eating it, th ...
Vivah
2007-08-27 02:40:00
Sooraj Barjatya’s film ‘Vivah’ is a throwback to the cinema of yore, when romantic themes were presented through stories steeped in Indian tradition and culture. In the times when filmmakers are trying bold and new concepts, Sooraj R. Barjatya chooses to be regressive. Going against the tide, Barjatya once again dares to bring his old concept of a perfect family drama on the silver screen in his latest presentation ‘Vivah’.As the tagline suggests, the movie’s story is the journey of a young couple from engagement to marriage. Well, Barjatiya’s concept is a little different from others, but not from his previous flicks.‘Vivah’ is a story of Prem (Shahid Kapoor), Poonam (Amrita Rao) and their families. Prem is a rich, trendy guy from Delhi, whereas Poonam is a simple girl from Madhupur, brought up by her loving Chacha (Alok Nath) and jealous Chachi (Seema Biswas), who hates Poonam as she is beautiful than her own daughter Chhoti (Amrita Prakash). On his father’s (Anupa ...

Awana Kijal resort -Video
2007-08-24 00:02:00
My hubby went out of town for a few days for a business trip. Me a little lonely.Wait, suddenly something caught my eye when I am posting this. Add a video at blogger here? Hmm... This is the inside of the Awana Kijal resort. Trip that I took earlier. Please excuse the poor quality of the video as it was really my first one using the cyber shot camera phone Sony Ericsson. My hands were shaking alot. The second video is better as I try to steady my hands. And yet another from different point of view. Lots of greeneries. Clear blue sky and fresh air. Did I say that I really enjoyed that holiday? Hmm...I started off feeling lonely but after uploading these videos of nice holiday, I felt much better. ...
