Salt Range
2007-08-01 02:53:00
The Salt Range derives its name from extensive deposits of rock salt. It stands as remnant of forts with bastions and temples. Exceptionally, this region maintains an almost continuous record of history that can define the evolution of society. Forts and temples surviving along the range are a reminder of how untouched many of the ancient remnants are. Alexander from Macedon came to this range twice: one from Taxila and later once his forces refused to go any further from the banks of the River Beas. From here he marched towards the Arabian Sea on his way to Babylon. And, now an NGO is constructing the monument of Alexander near Jalalpur town in the foot of the salt range in district Jhelum. For those who take their first chance to the area, the landscape all along the Salt Range is rock-strewn, lacking in softness and loveliness. In many parts, it becomes barren and uninviting. But, in truth the range is dotted with historical wonders, romantic legends, archaeological remains, and vary ...

Men or Women; Who Leads?
2007-07-30 02:41:00
Reading a very consequential post (Top Ten Tips for Men Who Lead Women ) by Dr. Ellen Weber brought back two of my favorite reads and never to end debate about men and women; who leads. Better still who should? "Women wear the pants, pay the bills and compete with the big boys,” is a cry in Candace Bushnell's new novel Lipstick Jungle, “The women in this book are not looking to be swept off their pedicured feet, nor are they content to be the proverbial woman behind every great man.”The other one, The Opt-Out Revolution by Lisa Belkin. Like Opt Out Revolution, the assertions in Lipstick Jungle have also created a great debate; attention, criticism both by men as well as women. The questions here are do women need big men for success and self-actualization? Do men make women glow? How else can they shine with the fullness of life? Or axiom like men and women complementing each other still holds some water. What you think who should lead?

Getting Published
2007-07-29 23:11:00
Published books and printed words have been bringing changes in human relationships and making difference in the lives of people. The power of worlds has caused people to loose their existence or to better them.I always wanted to get published for free. But this could not happen. I had to self publish instead. When my first self published book Izhar came off the press, I personally distributed the book and placed it on all the show rooms in town and sent some copies to other cities as well. I also did a lot for promotion of my first book. After six months, when I went around to see the result of my book promotion efforts, one of my books sellers told me that four books have been sold. Surprised, I wondered who are those four patrons and asked him. He came up with a small list on which one name was written: Erum, Erum, Erum, Erum.Which is one of the reasons that printing and publishing industry has not developed here. Services like editing (manuscript reviews, proofreading and editing) ...

Cyber Warfare - A technological warfare concept endemic to the information age
2007-07-24 04:25:00
Science of war has entered the cyber age. Imagine what will happen if all computers based utilities, people have come too rely so much on, stop responding or computer stop recognizing domain names or vital information regarding national security is compromised through computers and communication networks. This is not just a hypothetical war game scenario rather a strong possibility to which empirical observations of the recent past point out. Any soundless, invisible but determined cyber action could paralyse an entire nation without mobilizing a single soldier. In is in this context that information warfare should be discussed and the role of computer chips in war related fields viewed.Cyber warfare is different than the conventional war in many ways: Attrition and manoeuvres that used to be the main objectives in conventional wars are being replaced in computer age by emphasize on control. Physical forces' attempt to exhaust, annihilate the enemy and capture and hold grounds in conve ...

Fired Bloggers
2007-07-22 21:30:00
Wired's Threat Level blog cites an interesting study that found nearly 10 % of companies have fired at least one employee for leaving comments on a message board or a blog."Nearly ten percent of companies have fired an employee for violating corporate blogging or message board policies, and 19 percent have disciplined an employee for the same infractions, according to a new survey from Proofpoint, a messaging security company. Almost a third of companies "employ staff to read or otherwise analyze outbound email," while more than fifteen percent have hired people whose primary function is to spy on outgoing corporate email. A quarter have fired an employee for violating corporate email policies. Twenty percent of the companies and almost thirty percent of companies with more than 20,000 employees had been ordered by a court or a regulator to turn over employee emails." "The fact that message board comments were lumped in with blog comments in this study is a little unfair to the blogos ...

OLPC Brings Porn To The Third World
2007-07-22 02:53:00
Earlier Cubano wrote about One Laptop Per Child initiative (In Search of Affordable Technology and One Laptop Per Child) here. Now "the initiative has reached new heights by delivering internet porn to third world children. According to a report from the official News Agency of Nigeria, laptops in a primary school in Abuja “have gone awry as the pupils freely browse adult sites with explicit sexual materials.” It’s heart warming to know that the efforts of the well meaning folks behind the OLPC project are delivering real results on the ground; providing the same opportunities for teenage boys to access internet porn no matter how impoverished they are or where they live. The party however will be short lived; a representative of the One Laptop Per Child group was reported saying that the OLPC computers would now be fitted with porn filters." America's Life Stories
2007-07-21 02:30:00
Dennis StackWhen it comes to blogging I am rank amateur. I have read quite a few and intended to start one on numerous occasions, but never got round to it. In any case though, I do stay busy at times more productively than other times. How blogging matters in life and work could become a good masters dissertation. I, in no way could do that. I will take a stab at what I think may be some interesting aspects. Why do people blog? Why do people read blogs? What benefits accrue to each? The recent and astounding growth in blogging creates some very interesting dynamics regarding interpersonal communications. This technology gives voice to many who otherwise have been mute. One reason why people blog could be the result of an inherent need in many of us to express our opinion, and more importantly to have those opinions validated by others. Why do people read blogs? For those who choose to be readers and by extension ‘commenters’ fill their need to have their own beliefs and opinions valid ...
