Kid Friendly Sites
2008-03-06 21:13:13
It frightens me to think of kids surfing the net and coming across “adult-only” sites. But as I’ve been surfing the next for the past couple of months I am really delighted to find kid-friendly sites and even search engines that are designed with kids in mind. You’d be surprised that there are actually a lot of sites where your child can learn, explore and play. So now my child gets 30 minutes, thrice a week, time allocation to use the computer. Here’s a list of sites I’d recommend for kids.LEARNING THE ALPHABET: Animal ABC’s - (My daughter actually learned her ABC’s mostly from here) The site is very visual. Kids will love the colorful animal alphabet lesson. Giraffian Alphabet - Alphabet picture lesson. The pictures are large and the lesson includes letters in upper and lower case. Navigation is a bit more complicated than Animal ABC site but its still easy for kids. Letter TV - My daughter’s favorite. The site looks like a ...

Working on an Interracial Marriage
2008-03-06 09:47:36
Marriage is a lot of hard work. More so if you are in an interracial marriage. I am a Filipina born and raised in the Philippines and married to a pure Chinese who was born and raised up in Cambodia. I’m sure you can now imagine the differences in our traditions, value systems as well as the lifestyle we got used to. We’ve been together for almost 8 years already and I would say it helps that we consider these difference not as nuisance but more of the” spice” of our marriage. I don’t consider myself an authority on marriage or interracial marriage, I just want to impart some things I have over the years of being in one. I’ve realized to have a happy marriage requires a lot of love, patience, commitment, respect, and loads of sense of humor. 1. Don’t say YOU DO IT WRONG..I’ve learned that these puts my hubby on the defensive. And after thinking about it, its actually wrong of me to assume that the my way is the ONLY right way. Now I k ...
Money Saving Tips that Won’t Cramp Your Style
2008-03-06 07:59:18
Cutting down on expenses to save can sometimes be so hard. Most of us think that saving means only cutting back on big purchases, but its often the small purchases and small monthly services that eats a lot of out budget. Here’s some list of cutbacks which is barely noticeable but will still manage to increase your savings. 1. Instead of ordering cappuccino at the coffee bar, try the coffee of the day and ask the server to leave lots of room for milk. The foam is gone after three sips anyway. 2. Slow down! A car going 55 miles per hour gets 15 percent better fuel economy than one doing 65. 3. If you can’t wait for that best-seller to be available at the library, buy it with a friend and split the cost. 4. Set your air conditioner’s thermostat higher. For every degree above 72°F., you’ll save up to three percent per month in energy costs. 5. Walk or bike instead of driving; you’ll save gas (and burn calories!). 6. Do you really watch all 312 channels you ...
Layout/Theme Dilemna
2008-03-06 07:38:52
I had been working on this wordpress site for about 2 weeks now and it was last week that I’ve decided to use the WP  Lunar New Year Theme. I am having second thoughts though coz of some things I have noticed about the theme. The fonts are too small and I am unable to change it. Although the contrast of white against red is ok, some of my readers are still having hard time to read it. I really love red but so far this is the only bold red theme I have liked. Unlucky me.. Don’t be surprised if this blog will sporting another skin the next time you visit.. ...
What does your home say about you?
2008-03-04 04:20:40
A house that does not have one worn, comfy chair in it is soulless. ~May Sarton For a home, we should make sure that we are filling it up with furnishings that are true reflections of ourselves, meaning items that we really need and like instead of just random stuff. It’s never too great to buy a furnishing just because somebody else liked it. Choose things that would best suit you, your lifestyle and something that makes you feel comfortable. I saw this style quiz on a site and tried it for myself and discover my home style profile..Results are pretty interesting.. (more…) ...
Some Interesting Quotes on Home..
2008-03-04 01:20:52
  · Home is a place not only of strong affections, but of entire unreserve; it is life’s undress rehearsal, its backroom, its dressing room. ~Harriet Beecher Stowe   · Home is a name, a word, it is a strong one; stronger than magician ever spoke, or spirit ever answered to, in the strongest conjuration. ~Charles Dickens   · Home is a place you grow up wanting to leave, and grow old wanting to get back to. ~John Ed Pearce   · Home is the one place in all this world where hearts are sure of each other. It is the place of confidence. It is the place where we tear off that mask of guarded and suspicious coldness which the world forces us to wear in self-defense, and where we pour out the unreserved communications of full and confiding hearts. It is the spot where expressions of tenderness gush out without any sensation of awkwardness and without any dread of ridicule. ~Frederick W. Robertson ...
Wordpress Lunar New Year Theme
2008-03-04 00:18:39
After countless theme changes and some tweaking, I’ve finally decided on the Lunar New Year Theme by WordPressThemed. I was actually torn between this theme and the Grass Roots Theme by 25 Templates. I eventually decided to use the Lunar New Year Theme for several reasons.. i love the bold color! its just so dramatic, if you put it side by side with other colors it simply stands out. the font sizes. i don’t really like big fonts.. the 2 left sidebars. its compact and easily manageable. theme is widget ready, so i didn’t find it difficult to manage my sidebar. i like the overall look..i am rooting for the oriental theme as opposed to the other themes which doesn’t really show eastern look. Now don’t ask me what the symbol on the header means I have absolutely no idea. I am married to a Chinese guy, my mom is part Chinese but well, I can hardly utter a Chinese word except the Mandarin equivalent of “thank you”. I am just proudly Asian so that& ...
Holy Week - Traditions in Bicol
2008-03-03 08:13:35
I was born and raised in Bicol, Philippines and have spent most of my childhood there. Bicol is at the southern end of Luzon. It’s a beautiful place with lots of natural wonders. More than just Mayon Volcano, Bulusan Volcano and Mt. Isarog, and whale shark spotting, Bicol Region have lots of breathtaking islands and beaches. Albay, my home province has vast amount of rich farm lands, and one of the main produce is abaca. So if you’re in search for handicrafts (handbags, mats, baskets), this is the place to visit. What is also unique about the province is the churches in each municipality mostly of Baroque Architecture. What I really miss though are the religious traditions we celebrate. Most notably, the holy week procession where you can see the evident influence of Spanish and Roman Catholic culture to our place. (more…) ...
