The entire innerwebs is borked.
2007-10-22 20:06:42
So, apparently OneSource is having issues. Yesterday I had problems hitting anything but Google sites (gmail, google, blogspot, etc) and even that was a struggle. Now, I'm having issues getting to the Google sites. Just about everything else is fine. Nice.So much fun. ...

More randomness
2007-10-22 15:40:34
Sophie is currently watching Baby Signing Time (vol 2 right now). We don't watch either of these videos very much anymore, even though they're my favorites. I was afraid she was growing bored with them. However, while giving her a bath earlier, I was singing the "Wash Hands" song and she was singing along (or trying to, at least)! That was when I decided we needed to pull these out again. She's been signing along with all of the signs ("Momma! Socks! Momma! Hat!") and it's been fun watching her. We're having a gray dreary day here. It started off rainy and chilly. It's now just windy and chilly. I think I actually want to find my slippers. I love weather like this. The high for today is supposed to be in the mid 50's (F) and tomorrow is supposed to hit 64° F. This is the fall weather I've been waiting for! This morning I took Sophie out to the front porch to show her our little pumpkin family (still uncarved). She got very excited a ...

Do They Speak English in What?
2007-10-22 14:33:39
People make fun of the way I talk all the time. Either my family thinks I've picked up a southern accent (ask any southerner, I haven't picked it up yet), or all my friends down here think I talk like a Yankee (I am a Yankee, what do you expect?). I think the biggest accent I've picked up is the silly long "O" sound from when I lived in Minnesota. I have to admit, that's probably the thing I like least. However, when I was living in Minnesota is when I stopped saying "pop" and started saying "soda." Amazingly enough, people now make fun of me for saying "soda" when that's what it says on the can or bottle! I'm fine with the way I speak because I know the difference between oil, earl, and owl. I also know there is a difference between Kim and Ken as well as pin and pen. I think my various accents are only obvious when I'm truly tired and lazy with how I speak, or whenever I get excited about something and speak too quickly to catch it.In any cas ...

Stinky Septic System?
2007-10-22 10:59:47
I know some of you know I use gDiapers. I don't use them with the flushables mostly because I already have the cloth diapers and the flushables are a little expensive. I do use the flushables from time to time, however, and love them. Of course, I have a newer plumbing system and no big trees or old pipes or septic systems to deal with. I know a lot of people question how good the flushables are for questionable sewage systems, but for as long as I've been reading the gDiapers group on Yahoo, I seriously don't think there has been one plumbing problem caused by these diapers. In any case, people with Septic Tanks are still a bit concerned, which is understandable. BioKube (for my UK gDiapers friends) offers annual maintenance and minimal de-sludging on their systems to help those users feel just a little better about their system. To minimize the hit on the septic system, wet flushables can also be composted, but with BioKube, it doesn't look like it would be n ...

Catch up plans foiled
2007-10-21 17:27:30
I'm posting this from my phone, only because I am beyond annoyed. I planned to catch up today on my f-list, but our internet connection is down right now. Ugh.Edited to add:Internet connection is back but all the tabs I had saved in Fx are now toast (history only saved part of them). This has not been my day. I am going to try to go through each friend (alphabetically because it's easier) and catch up that way. zyada, I swear I will comment on your recent posts sometime this year, but it might take me a while to get there. :(*sigh*ETA: Posting from the phone again. My internet is now only letting me connect to gmail (seriously). Ugh. I am not meant to catch up today. Sorry guys. I have lots to say to you all, too. Figures. ...

Tamil extension
2007-10-20 14:15:21
Someone on my f-list recently mentioned wanting to learn Tamil and for the life of me I can't remember who it is. In any case, if whoever it was reads this and uses Firefox, there is an extension (add-on) for Fx called TamilKey that may be helpful eventually. :) ...

Still in movie-land here on this Top Five... Share your Top Five favorite movie soundtracks (not just songs) from musicals that have been made into movies. Since many people used these for the last Top Fives anyhow, this one really shouldn't be all that difficult. ;)View Poll: #1074459 ...

It's about that time again...
2007-10-19 21:46:58
Christmas is coming very quickly. I've been toying with the idea of having Christmas cards made up this year with the Kritter's photo on them. I was going to do it last year but didn't think about it until it was too late. I had the dresses and everything. I should dig up a photo to share because she was positively adorable (of course, right?).In any case, I found a site that will do photo cards. They even do business holiday cards (not that any other site can't do them). They have some pretty decent designs. They also have categories other than just holiday. I'll have to discuss it with B, but based on what I see here and how cute this are, I'm even more tempted now to do the photo cards this year. Then again, we still have boxes of Christmas cards I bought on clearance, so I probably will just use those with a photo of her included. Such decisions... ...

Bad words want to be in this post very badly
2007-10-19 18:41:27
Apparently companies are hiring monkeys to deliver various items from door to door now. Actually, now that I think about it, it's likely they're not even hiring monkeys since monkeys are more intelligent than this. I'm not sure what they're hiring to do the job.Today, we received a Verizon phone book. I'm not sure why since we don't have Verizon. This is the third phone book from as many companies within the past few months. We don't use phone books. I don't understand why now, when we don't use physical phone books, we're all of a sudden getting what seems like thousands of them, and years ago, before computers and internet access were standard in every home, we had to fight to get just one phone book sent to the house.I'm not so upset by the receipt of the phone book (although it's an unnecessary waste of resources). I'm upset with the delivery of the phone book. Whoever (or whatever) delivered the phone book th ...

Eco-friendly site find
2007-10-19 17:03:01
I have found another eco-friendly blog: Eco Joe's. I've been poking through the entries and it's not necessarily new information to me, although there have been a few tips here and there that are.The entry about saving water in the bathroom contains some tips we've tried and some we haven't. We always turn our water off when we brush our teeth, but we don't turn our water off while taking a shower. Our hot water gets cold very fast. I have a spray attachment I use from time to time that cuts off the water, but I don't like to use that often for the same reason. I have to be very quick if I use it or I wind up with a cold shower, and I can't stand cold showers. We haven't tried the bottle in the toilet tank yet, and I'm not sure we will. We have low-flow toilets already as it is.Of course, like any good blogger, they have entries tagged for categorization. My personal favorite category is about saving money (Oh, come on, are you ...

Halloweenie update
2007-10-19 16:24:03
This weekend we are hoping to hit a pumpkin patch with Sophie. I haven't carved pumpkins in years. I'm actually looking forward to it. I told B I wanted to find a battery operated light for inside the pumpkins and he said I was lame. Pft.We should be getting the tutu for Sophie's costume next week sometime. I still haven't found antennae, but I might break down and make them myself. We have a party to attend next Saturday, so she'll be wearing the costume for that. I hope the wings hold up. That will be the true test!I might take her to a few homes in the neighborhood, I haven't decided yet. It all depends on when B is able to get home from work that night. All the bags are packed and ready to hand out. I'm sure the kids and parents will be a bit confused by them. Each bag contains at least one small packet of Skittles, Starburst, two Kit Kats (different flavors), a box of raisins, and a prune (individually wrapped, of course). Now that I ...

It's the Realtor thing, baby
2007-10-19 13:37:42
I have at least one friend on my f-list who is now a Realtor. I don't know that she actually reads my journal, though. In any case, I've often thought of doing the same, but am concerned the market is so saturated with experienced Realtors right now that I wouldn't stand a chance. Of course, I still do research to learn more about training in real estate from time to time, simply because it interests me. I think one of the things that prevents me from putting my all into wanting to be a Realtor is the mound of paperwork involved. I do NOT like paperwork, not one bit. I'd rather be out and about showing homes to people and helping them find their dreams. ...

And again!!
2007-10-19 12:40:11
Well, we we had a play date this morning that we missed, thanks to Miss Thang and her late night escapades again. This time it wasn't nearly as long, but it was still frustrating. We possibly could have made it if we rushed to get showers and breakfast, but I hate rushing with her. It's just not worth it. One of these days we'll actually make it to a play date with our signing group. At least she's been pretty well behaved today. We've played outside and taken a nap already and she's eating lunch right now ("Mmmmm," says Sophie). We need to get out to the grocer's at some point today since we're nearly out of milk and bananas. Here's to having a good afternoon! :) ...
