MomPack: BarkTalk
2007-10-30 16:06:52
I'm sure some of you saw my post about Lisa and My Little Rembrandt. Well, she also owns (and created!) BarkTalk! Dog lovers/owners, this site is for you! Actually, this is a great place to find a gift for the dog lovers in your lives, too.Lisa has quite a few products available. She sent a few samples of some of the greeting cards, as well as a pack of Christmas cards. She also sent a long sleeved t-shirt. I will be giving away the t-shirt and the cards as a gift or a prize of some sort, but haven't quite decided how that's going to work, yet. If anyone has any ideas, please share them! You guys will love this stuff! This is a size small (adult) long sleeved t-shirt that is so nice and soft. When I first received it, I wasn't entirely certain I was going to like it because the transfer area has a sheen to it. Then I remembered I had ordered shirts from comics.com that came with a similar sheen and these are some of my favorite shirts. They don't ha ...

Top Five: *worst* candies/treats to get in the trick or treat bag!
2007-10-30 09:27:12
Okay, Halloween is tomorrow, and along with the good always comes a little bad. What are the five worst candies or treats (doesn't have to be candy) you've received in your loot bag?View Poll: #1079834If you haven't checked the results from yesterday's Top Five, you might want to. They're very interesting, I think. ...

Fire torpedo one!
2007-10-30 01:51:11
When I was in college, I used to go to the casino on a somewhat irregular basis with my friends, mainly for the midnight buffet (best omelets in the history of eggs anywhere), but also for the drinks (which I vaguely recall being free). We had some great times out there and lost quite a bit of money, although I never really lost more than the $20 I'd take with me (all in change from waiting tables, of course). A lot of times we would lose what we'd won, or we'd pay for dinner with what we'd won, and lose the rest, but it was still a good time. Some of you may remember a recent post about my Dodge Shadow and the firing of torpedoes by one of my friends. The trips to the casino were always fun with Jon along. ;)The website "top us online casinos" claims to be the ticket to all the best US online casinos. As of right now, they have ten casinos reviewed and each review page contains a nice bit of information including a rating. If online gambling is your thing, t ...

Elepent Scribbles
2007-10-29 17:09:12
Not only can Sophie sign her colors (she's been doing that for a while now), but she can also say them (almost coherently, some are very clear), and recognize them! The child knows her colors. Really. I just looked this up and it is listed under ages 3-4 (I only found one site in my quick search, though - please share with me if you have others). If I didn't see it myself, I wouldn't believe it either. She says the color and then picks it out of the box. Sometimes I will hand her the crayon and ask her what it is and she gets it right.Color me impressed. ...

MomPack: My Little Rembrandt
2007-10-29 16:48:00
Lisa is owner and creator of My Little Rembrandt, a website designed to let people turn children's artwork into custom gifts. Of course, as a parent, I am completely in love with this website. I know my parents would love to have some of Sophie's scribbles (eventually) on a mug or t-shirt. Lisa sent me a sample card (artwork by her daughter) and it is printed on quality cardstock. A nice feature the cards have is the free personalization on the back.(name erased by me)This site is the perfect place to shop for gifts for babysitters, teachers, grandparents, God parents, and even Mom and Dad. I just love this idea so much! Idea: get your children to sit down and draw holiday images (Christmas trees, dreidels, Santa, etc.) and order a custom set of cards for the holidays. You can be assured no one else will be sending the same cards as you!Bonus: Lisa is offering a 10% discount to my readers!! Just use coupon code "sm00" (without the quotes) when checking out (remember ...

Top Five: Candy (part 1)
2007-10-29 13:34:13
Because Halloween is coming up and the holiday is probably the holiday when candy is given most freely, the Top Five today will focus on candy. I might try to do a run of these this week, since there are so many types of candy. It all depends on how much time I find myself having each day.For this Top Five, choose your five favorite candies from any category (chocolate, gum, hard candies, jellies or gummies, etc.).View Poll: #1079367 ...

Tuck it all in!
2007-10-29 12:55:33
I have been very lax lately in the whole exercise and diet routine. I get so frustrated when I don't see any changes and then we get busy and it's easy for me to break the very fragile habit, especially with exercise. I have hated my body with a serious passion since Sophie was born, although I've never been terribly comfortable with it before that. The wife of one of B's friends at work had a Tummy Tuck done and I have to admit, she looks pretty good. I'm not ready to go that route because I still have to lose weight, but I do have a baby belly I want to eliminate. I'm sure some of you don't care to think about this, but it's there, and I hate it. I'd rather it be gone! If someone has some excellent exercises (other than sit ups) that work to correct this flab, please share! ...

Nearly blog free weekend :)
2007-10-29 11:21:31
This weekend seemed so packed, but it really wasn't. Friday, I busted into superfreak cleaning mode and basically didn't stop until Saturday afternoon when the house was looking much better. There are still things that need to be done, especially so we can get to work on the office/guest room switcharoo. I also want to clean out the pantry and linen closet very soon. I think weather in Texas is very good for my cleaning bug. It is almost like we get spring twice, and it encourages me to do my spring cleaning twice. We had friends over for dinner Saturday night (Cynthia and James), in which I cheated and made the stuffed Italian shells from Dream Dinners, as well as one of the apple crisps from DD. In all honesty, everything turned out pretty well. We had cheese and crackers (Lamb Chopper and Double Gloucester), some seriously humongous red table grapes, and milk chocolate and coffee truffles (Van Lys) sitting out for munching before dinner. Cynthia brought some Cugino& ...

Friday I'm in Love
2007-10-26 23:54:56
Today has been one of those days. It started off great at home, but somehow went terribly awry when I took Sophie on a little shopping expedition. We headed to Party City first to see if they might have antennae on a headband that she could wear. Unfortunately, everyone and their brother went to Party City today for something. It was a total zoo! I guess there was no school today because there were kids everywhere. They didn't have what we were looking for (well, they did, but only with wings, and I wasn't buying another set of wings) so we left there and went back to the car for the magazines to take to Half Price Books. While I was getting the magazines from the trunk, the car started chirping (not the alarm, just the "hey, I'm about to set off the alarm" chirp). Sophie started crying about the time the alarm kicked in. I was carrying the box and trying to fish for my keys at the same time. Between being distracted by Sophie and the car and my little juggle act ...

Keep it covered!
2007-10-26 02:19:53
Years ago, after my Shadow had long been forgotten and as the Caravan was on its way out (yes, I used to drive a minivan when I had no children), I was desperately searching out another vehicle. I eventually wound up with a small red Toyota of some sort (I seriously cannot remember what model it was). In the process of the search, however, I fell in love with a little truck (again, don't remember the model - or even the make - on this). I was so completely geeked since I thought having a truck would be the coolest thing ever. It wasn't a large truck, but it was enough to keep me from being so close to the ground (I have been low to the ground since the Caravan, sadly). One of the features I remember learning about at that time was the tonneau cover. Until then, I had never known what it was called, but had seen tonneau covers on plenty of trucks. Now, I really don't think I would own a truck without one. Between convenience of storing items in the bed of the truck ...

PSA
2007-10-25 21:33:16
Because there are a lot of mothers on my list (and others who might benefit) and because I belong to The Mom Pack, I extended an invitation of free write-ups to the mothers of that group to be hosted here. I have requested samples so I can give you honest opinions of the products they sell (or the services they offer). There will be a few entries over the next week or so promoting these ladies who are doing everything they can to work from home so they can be home for their families. I received a couple packages today and wanted to warn you before I started posting pictures and such. ...

I love these beds!
2007-10-25 12:17:56
I am so in love with this bed (and room). Time 4 Sleep has some pretty amazing Oak Beds in their collection. I'm not in the market for a new bed right now (and I don't live in the UK), but if I was (and I did), I would certainly be looking here. I love browsing furniture and decorated rooms in the hopes of being inspired, but I usually wind up finding a room decor that doesn't fit with my current furniture and then want to buy what I don't need. I love how that works. As it stands, when we paint the bedroom, I'm not entirely sure how my dark furniture is going to look against the red walls. Yes, this is why ALL of my current painting projects are still on hold. Sadly, we still have paint chips up in the dining room. ...

Random Photo Dump (and a video)
2007-10-25 03:24:00
I am even more behind on catching up. Eventually I'll get there, but it won't be tonight. I have read a lot of posts from my phone, but haven't had a chance to comment. There's so much I want to say, really. So what have I done tonight? Absolutely nothing as far as catching up. My heart just isn't in it tonight. Of course, that puts me even farther behind. However, I do have lots of cute pictures and a video to share. :)Dates are all in yyyymmdd format. Some of these have been hanging around for a while, sorry. I am putting all the pictures behind a cut except for one. The video is my only other teaser. In the video, Sophie was helping Daddy by mopping the kitchen floor. She chatters almost the entire time, but it's difficult to hear it. 20070619 - Sophie in Aunt Tracie's car20070818 - Sophie going to bed20070823 - Sophie sportin' specs20070824 - Sophie "helping" with laundry20070919 - Sophie stuck in the toybox/footstool20070919 - Soph ...
