Politics alert - requesting opinions
2008-02-08 18:43:09
This is a serious request. I'm not intending to start any flame wars. I seriously want to know your opinion and why. Please, if you can only say you want someone based on gender, race, or religion, don't respond. I am trying to do a little research to determine who I like best, and I'm interested in reading educated opinions. So far, I haven't heard anything that makes me really want any of the candidates in office.Either Republican or Democrat (don't know if you guys have noticed, but I'm more a centrist than anything else), which candidate do you prefer for the nomination and why? Which candidate do you like least and why? I'm genuinely interested in knowing what my friends think. Feel free to talk about candidates who are already out, who are still in but don't stand a chance, or any of the front runners. This is sparked by a recent post in dfwtx. ...
Video time
2008-02-08 10:26:14
Okay, LiveJournal has now made posting video a serious pain in my butt. Way to go. Here are the videos from the painting session. The first one is from my phone, which is why it's so small. ...
Fail
2008-02-08 04:08:14
So, I'm curious if I just can't get the video posted because I'm using Photobucket (which I've done before) or because LJ is full of fail tonight. I can't even post the tiniest video I have which is only 27 seconds long and a very tiny resolution. I have to admit I'm a little more than annoyed. I'll try again later with YouTube to see if that resolves the issue. ...
Photo Time, part 2
2008-02-08 03:16:25
This is really all I've got for now. Sophie has been having a blast with her crayons and chalks and even markers that I decided to let her try a little finger painting the other day. I took some yogurt (banana and vanilla - closest to white and no chunks) and divided it into three bowls and made red, yellow, and blue paints for her. I laid out some paper on the table (think I'll use freezer paper next time) and taped it down, and poured a little of each color out on the paper. I made sure she had on one of Daddy's old t-shirts (he hates shirts with pockets for some reason, but Sophie doesn't mind), pulled her hair back, put her up in the high chair, and let her go to town.We made colors together, we played in the paint, and she actually realized she could eat the paint towards the end. B was completely grossed out, but Sophie had a blast. After she was done with the paints, she wanted to draw on her chalkboard. She's still wearing the shirt covered in yo ...

People keep asking for pictures, so I feel the need to comply. These are all from last weekend while the guys were out working on the fence. The weather was wonderful here, so Sophie wanted to be outside as well. ...
Meme time... It's been a while
2008-02-08 01:51:17
Part of this meme is from a few members of my family via email, and part of it is from various friends on LJ. Of course, I deleted a bunch of questions I thought were just silly and reworded a few others. Were you named after anyone? When was the last time you cried? Do you like your handwriting? What is your favorite lunch meat? Do you have kids? If you were another person, would you be friends with you? Do you use sarcasm a lot? Do you still have your tonsils? Would you bungee jump? What is your favorite cereal? Do you untie your shoes when you take them off? Do you think you are strong? What is your favorite ice cream? What is the first thing you notice about people? Red or pink? What do you like the least about yourself? Who do you miss the most? What color pants and shoes are you wearing? What was the last thing you ate? What are you listening to right now? If you were a crayon, what color would you be? Favorite smells? Who was the last person you talked to ...

Wow. Romney just bailed. I seriously didn't expect that. Now that is a very interesting turn of events. ...
Pure randomness
2008-02-05 13:41:01
This entry is going to be even more all over the place than other random entries... I think. Watch, I'll get to the end and realize I didn't really have anything to post in the first place. That's always fun.For those of you looking for a new home in the DFW area, this little site is one of the coolest MLS searches I've seen... ever. I wish there was a site like this that would search the entire country. I know there are other areas who use this company (Diverse Solutions), but they don't link together. That would be the ultimate.Yesterday, Sophie sat and colored for about two hours. Two hours! Every now and then she'd give me a crayon and ask me to color. I drew a bunch of shapes for her and she tried to color them in! This is the reason I want a scanner. I want to be able to scan these things so I don't have ten thousand papers laying around, but also so I can show my family what she's doing now. It really was too cute. She was almo ...
Free Rice
2008-02-05 09:45:06
I'm pretty sure I've posted about this before, but I can't find it right now. I know I found it through someone else's LJ, but don't remember which journal. If you love to challenge your vocabulary, check it out. It's all for a good cause. For just a click of the mouse, whenever you get an answer correct, you add 20 grains of rice to your bowl to be given to less fortunate people. The vocabulary words used are quite challenging, too! ...

I've got a bone to pick!
2008-02-05 03:16:32
Link recommendation: MyBoneYard®.com B and I are very careful with how we dispose of our waste. Because of this, we have a pile of electronics sitting here waiting to be recycled because we know at least some of the pieces can be reused, and what can't be reused could possibly be considered toxic waste, I would imagine. This site supposedly makes it easy to recycle, and to even be rewarded for it.There are a few drawbacks to this site. They only recycle cell phones/PDAs/handhelds and computer equipment (towers, laptops, monitors, tablets, etc.). I'm disappointed they don't take televisions (even just small TVs), DVD/VCR players, individual hard drives, mice, and various other electronics. These components are just as important to recycle as what they have here. However, this is an EXCELLENT start! The more people who know about this, the fewer of these items hopefully will wind up in a landfill. Cell phones will get to shelters and computers will get to schools withou ...
The popover is as big as my head!
2008-02-02 02:45:56
Why in the world is Romney running an ad against Hillary? Isn't that a little pretentious on his part? The man hasn't even gotten the Republican nomination yet (nor has Hillary received the Democratic nomination) yet he's already running an ad against her? Maybe there are some finer points within American politics that I just don't understand, but it just seems like a silly waste of time and money to me. I love popcorn. I especially love popcorn when I make it so it's nice and light and fluffy and not heavy and soggy. I typically prefer it with salt and butter, but sometimes will put butter and Parmesan cheese on it instead. Sometimes when I do the salt and butter, I add just a tiny bit of sugar (or Splenda) for a bit of a kettle corn flavor. . Now that Anne Coulter has essentially endorsed Hillary, I feel fairly confident that Hillary is not the candidate for me. I know she only said this because of her extreme dislike for McCain, but still... Hilla ...
Whole lotta rock
2008-02-01 02:11:16
It's rather exciting that NBC is picking up an American version of the BBC favorite, Top Gear, but I am so disappointed Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond are all begging off. There are no Americans who will be as cool as those three. I don't know that there can be anything clear about politics, but Real Clear Politics is certainly giving it a try. . Tickets have been purchased for the March 4 TMBG concert. I'm looking forward to it! Sophie will now have an "I love you" battle. She'll say "I love you, Mommy (or Daddy)" and if we respond with "I love you, Sophie," she'll repeat what she said. The more she repeats it, the more frustrated she gets. It's terribly cute (especially with her tiny little voice) and just doesn't get old. I think after Good Eats, The Colbert Report is probably my favorite show on television these days. I have not met a Simply juice I haven't liked (yet). Someone in one of my knitting communitie ...

I would really like to know what the heck keeps turning my Windows Firewall back on. It's seriously craptastic. If I needed a software firewall, I wouldn't be using Windows. However, we have a real firewall installed, so I don't need this software crap telling me (or my computer) what it's going to allow (or disallow). Seriously annoying. Seriously! ...
