There was no pond or lake nearby. It must be some owner who had abandon it. Tortoise are small and cute when young. But when they grow bigger, they are 'dirty' and smelly. I understand that. For this reasons, perhaps the owner had abandoned it. But I thought that was very irresponsible thing to do. He or She should bring it to the lake or pond instead of leaving it on public land, where the tortoise had to find ways to adapt to harsh evironments and having no water and food to survive for days. When I was a kid, I had several tortoise pets -- two little green ones, which were reared until as big as the one shown above. They love to eat prawns and vegetables.
