APEC continuing....but over soon!
2007-09-08 01:28:00
Aside from it being a right pain the arse with transport and weird cages all over the place, I have managed to achieve all of my small goals of the day (eg. living my life). Luckily with my knowledge of the city, I was able to avoid protestors, too many police and snipers and get around without too much grief. Having said that, I am VERY tired from walking so bloody much in a bid to avoid them all.Ms. E was unfortunate enough to become trapped by protestors and police in her attempt to return home from our yoga class and afraid of ongoing protestor action and police intervention, we have had to delay our movie viewing for this evening. There is only so much we can all fight APEC and all it entails. Our barrierhttp://ninemsn.com.au/?lc=1033The city is a ghost town and the tourists have been hilariously photographing the cages in their multitudes (well, what else can they photograph since the Opera House is blocked off?).Even the police are looking bored of it all now, but thankfully, nor ...
APEC Security Highlights
2007-09-05 19:14:00
Over-reacting? I'll let you be the judge. This is what we're faced with this week. I am highlighting this as I don't think my last post fully did our situation justice. From Sydney Morning Herald (smh.com.au):"office workers in Bridge Street's AMP tower have been told to stay away from the windows, draw the blinds and not to look at helicopters.""......"On Monday an APEC security officer asked us to limit our outdoor furniture. He said if you are setting a table, don't set it with knives and forks because they can be used as a potential weapon by terrorists." .... "Regular customers from the AMP building have been told not to cross the road," he said. .....""....snipers were spotted on rooftops and atop APEC venues, including the Opera House and the Convention Centre...." Photo from smh.com.au"PROTESTERS at Saturday's main rally against the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation forum may risk arrest through "non-violent civil disobedience" after a court win by police stripped organis ...
Apec nightmare
2007-09-04 22:43:00
Only a few days to go and already all these world leaders are creating a bummer vibe over the city. Road closures, hard core policing, riots expected, teens busted for skipping school if they want to attend a protest.........not good.....not good at all.APEC for Sydney = no funExample:Public told not to attend APEC fireworks.FIREWORKS over Sydney Harbour will mark the closure of APEC but the public have been told not to attend. ...www.news.com.au/feature/0,,5013109,00.htmlWTF? Why bother having fireworks if no one is there to see them?My city has become this!!!!from smh.com.au*sobs*On the plus side, we have all been given a public holiday on Friday. On the down side, I have no idea how I am going to get around or where these mysterious world leaders are going to be. Not knowing is annoying...I may not be able to avoid them.Public transport is a mess and unlikely to improve. I have a party in Potts Point on Friday night with Ms. B., however there will be no high heels worn to the event ...

Random men at Bus Stops
2007-08-22 00:56:00
I am currently reading ‘The Year of Yes’ by Marian Headley. Very chick lit, I know and probably best avoided if one is actually single. In this book she relieves her college days and her resolve to date anyone that asks for a year. I’m not finished the book, in fact nowhere near, but it seems an interesting proposition. The author assures that she is inundated with potential suitors and she is simply not accepting dates from them. It’s easy to be annoyed at this. Since when does this happen? Since when am I overwhelmed with dates and am simply saying no?Fortunately for me I was wrong. Within 3 days I have had 2 guys chat to me at a bus stop. Hmmm….what are the quality of men at bus stops like? Hard to say – both were tourists or people who had recently moved to Sydney. My main criteria for dating anyone is permanent residency (I don’t feel that I’m being too stringent here). The one that asked me out for a coffee and gave me his phone number was an ex-dental technician s ...
Blogging...the beginning....
2007-08-19 20:39:00
I have had a look around the Blogger site to check out some of the other blogs. It is an interesting combination of normal people and weirdo’s who post strange stock market and property reports (who are these people and why?).Anyway, my blog you could say has been divinely inspired. I have decided to help others by blogging my sad single life and its associated adventures. I need some karmic brownie points and I feel that this is a good way to help others in a similar position to myself. Why do I think this is may be helpful to others? Let me recount my brief tale.Last week I met with a friend, Mrs. J., who has recently become happily married with a new baby. Like many of us, she also has many friends who are single. One of her friends has recently started internet dating on TIDSTSRN*. The conversation went something like this:J.K. - “She’s very depressed about being single and is going to go to one of TIDSTSRN* events this weekend. She thinks that it will be better than meeting ...
