A Councilor Who Makes a Difference
2007-09-06 11:44:00
Don't get me wrong but I am not endorsing any politician for candidacy in the upcoming election but I would like to stress out that the blog that I have recently bumped into is interesting. Up to this point, I have not registered to COMELEC yet as a voter because I have been disgusted with how Philippine Politics is. Not until I read this councilor's blog recently.Meet Councilor Peter Laviña's blog of the 1st district of Davao City where the district I also belong. His blog discusses about his work as a city councilor. I find his blog interesting because for one, I know that this councilor is really working since he blogs his works, daily encounters as a councilor, his advocacies in the political arena and his passion for serving the people of Davao City. His political opinions on present political issues benefit his readers critical thinking. In this manner, his readers, particularly his constituents may be able to benchmark his political stand on present day issues. It gives a se ...

Please Help Explain No. 2 (???????)
2007-09-02 12:43:00
A stall in a Makati mall selling jewelries apparently also posted the sign above above its Sale sign. It is read as:Wanted Boyfriend. With experience. Bring Biodata. By: Marimar.Marimar, a popular Mexican telenovela hit in the Philippines in the mid-1990's which played by Thalia, a Mexican actress turned into singer, has been remaked locally by GMA Network. I can't imagine how popular Marimar really is. Even if this was a joke, it is still shameful though to have this sign posted. Its like being so desperate to have a boyfriend, isn't it? ...

src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">Another simple one since its Katana. Hint? Just look for the English equivalent somewhere below, above or beside the Katakana and you will not be wrong either. It is read as SE-KU-SHUN KE-SU or Section Case. This is a plastic container with compartments in the plastic homeware section of SM Department Store in SM Megamall.SE - ?KU - ?SHU - ??N - ?KE - ?SU - ?????????Sekushun Ke-suSection CaseThe font style here is quite fancy that is why its kinda hard to identify clearly the exact katakana character. ...

Nihongo Encounter No. 8
2007-09-02 12:19:00
src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">Dissecting Tokyo Tokyo restaurant's kanji. Is Tokyo the opposite of Kyoto? This is hilarious as one local sitcom show in the Philippines asked this on one particular scene.Tokyo is we know the present capital of Japan. But did you know that the real spelling of the word Tokyo in Nihongo is Toukyou? Yes, its Toukyou. The two kanjis that you see on the symbol of the restaurant represents Tou (?) which means East or Higashi (???). While Kyou (?) means capital/city or miyako (?????). When both are combined, it means East of The Capital or East of the City. Before the Meiji Restoration of 1868, Kyouto or present day Kyoto was Japan's capital. Kyouto, as it is spelled (??), is the capital city, as it is defined above. So back in the old days, when you were in Kyouto, the capital, you refer to Toukyou as the East of the Capital or East of the City, which is Kyouto. In the map, Kyouto is on the western part ...

Along our way to SM Megamall from the Podium going through St. Francis Square in Ortigas, you will pass by this stall that is called Hong Kong Style Noodles. This stall was jampacked with locals and feasting on their very affordable stir fried noodles topped with either pork or beef siomai and a choice of soy, teriyaki, chili, sweet and sour and peanut sauces. This is a good way to fill your tummy in between meals. Price is really cheap. Accompanied with black gulaman at P9.00 is indeed satisfying and really affordable. Check it out! ...

Afternoon Free Coffee at The Shangri-la
2007-09-02 11:23:00
An afternoon of unexpected free coffee treat courtesy of Nescafe at the Shangri-la. Nestle is launching their new product officially on malls (though this product already released a couple of weeks ago). Their new Hazelnut and French Vanilla flavored Coffeemate creamer is the newest thing to coffee scene. The afternoon was graced with overflowing free Nescafe coffee flavored with their 2 new variants of Coffeemate, a classical music, free registration and free caricature of your picture when you buy their new products. Also there were phantom mimes around to lighten up the afternoon. This was a perfect afternoon and after-heavy-lunch treat by Nestle. For me, Hazelnut variety has more flavor than French Vanilla. The best things in life are for free when you catch them in the right place and time. ...
