More Babies Needed
2007-07-11 01:33:00
MCYS Family Development Unit is organizing a forum on "Family Talk" aims to promote and restore somewhat undervalued family value. It is an encourage sign that Singapore Government has realized the urgency of our ageing population and decreasing TFR and has initiatives to tickle the problem. We need more babies to add up to our projected 6.5 million population by 2030.Full time mothers shall be viewed as partners with the government to achieve this national goal. If our male citizen can take two years "national service", why not our female citizens take two years to have more babies? That will be great "National Service" for Singapore.A study in UK showed 40% highly educated women are childless by the age of 35, it is 20% increase in numbers over the past decade. Other graduates women who did have child, were having fewer children and later. The same situation happens right here in Singapore. There is a worry trend that single hood is more prominent in recent years. Dual income familie ...

2007-07-07 00:26:00
Nancy Pelosi, is a first woman to lead congress in the USA Democratic Party said on mother's day this year:"I've always taken great pride in the fact that I was a mom, that this was my life's experience and that it brought something to the table," , who raised five children before entering electoral politics. "Mother's Day is probably one of the most patriotic days in America, because we're saying to moms that we respect what you have done for your children, we respect what you're doing for the country."Nancy, 67, is of a generation in which many professional women found it prudent to downplay their family commitments. At the pinnacle of her power, Pelosi has showcased hers. She took her oath of office surrounded by her six grandchildren,"Somebody like me, as speaker of the house, has a responsibility to the younger generation of women to say: Don't think of this as a minus," Pelosi says. "This is a plus, being a mother, having an experience of raising a family.""Nothing in my l ...

Like managing a company or a kingdom, Full time mothers has the same managerial requirement as Kings and CEOs but in smaller scales. Their subordinates are often their children; however, unlike kings or CEOs, full time mothers have no power to dispose them no matter how unsatisfied performances might be. To “subdue” and gain fully controls of the “subordinates”, full time mothers not only have to be autonomic but most often they have to be more diplomatic. That requires self control and all HR skills to deal with these challenges.Conflicts management will be top priority when she has more than two children, because sibling rivalry is a long and continuous battle.Time management and multi-task skill are certain basic requirement. Otherwise, a full time mother may find her soon be too drained to be a good mother.Financial prudence and basic accounting skill will help her too. As full time mothers sacrifice her income to family, they have many other ways to gain back for their ...

Allison, also a mother of two, is usually heading off to work with a PR company. They admit that they envy each other's lives."Motherhood full time is wonderful, but also exhausting," Jenny says."The kids can drive you nuts. Every mom is a Working Mom
2007-06-27 04:20:00
Oh, I gotta share this with you online advertising "Every mom is a Working MomBy Ann MorrowFor years I loved being a stay-at-home mom. I enjoyed the full-time responsibilities of taking care of my home and family. But once all the kids were in school and my days became void of a young child’s needs, I felt the need to return to the workforce and contribute to our family’s financial well-being. Mostly, I wanted to preserve the little sanity I had left. I have to get out of the house before I went honkers. The job search itself can be a litter more than intimidating. I am not one of those women who returned to the work force when the baby was six weeks old. After years of following four kids around with a damp cloth and a dustpan, being a full-time mom was my work force. While career women were out changing the world, I was changing diapers. When the first American woman was climbing Mt. Everest, I was scaling a mound of dirty laundry. And when Shirley Muldowney was setting speed reco ...

Most likely, a full time mother will be her babies’ first teacher. You will be able to open the wonderful world of learning for your children. The studies on early childhood education have shown that the most critical stimulate period and the fastest learning stage is of child’s first three years. Dr Suzuki, the founder of the Talent Education Movement once said: “Everyone has a sprout of talent.” He argued that it is natural for a Japanese baby to speak Japanese, the ability to speak good Japanese is inborn in every child, what differs is the environment each child has. Everyone has a sprout of talent. Developing that sprout into a wonderful ability depends upon how it is cultivated. A full time mother has great advantage to stimulate inborn ability of her child to open window of learning at early stage. Therefore, another possible skill you will develop is childhood educator. One of skills you most like to develop is Culinary. That is skill opens my eyes towards lifelong learning. I came from a "well protected" home, where my mother thinks to study is more important than to learn cooking. I got married without any basic skills of cooking. The first half year of our marriage, we were either eating out or having soup with rice. The so-called "Soup" was in fact, water boiling with all kinds of things, meat, vegetables etc. Thank God I have a kind husband, who did not complain whatever I brought to table. However, by the time our first baby was bore, I determined to LEARN. What a magic word, when you want to learn, you will be able to learn.I borrowed dozen cook books from library, started experimenting all kinds of cooking, mainly Chinese food frying, stewing, baking. (See my favorite cooking bookClick Here! )I love baking the most, I still remember, when I first practiced to make breads, sometimes it could be too hard, sometimes it could be over rised. But now ...

With Singapore National Day approaching soon, many streets are decorated with colorful flags with the wording “Celebrate Singapore, the city of possibility”. I would like to borrow the same phrase:Celebrate the Full Time Motherhood, the career with all possibilities Yes, once you enter the Full Time motherhood, you are entering a career with huge potential and possibility. You can develop the medical skill. With young children around, you soon would be well termed with all common childhood’ diseases. You may do some researches on particular subjects that even impress your pedestrian. My first boy’s medical bill was over five figures, by the time of my fourth child, the expenses dramatically dropped. That was due to my confidence in myself on common childhood disease and symptom; I am more or less know what iswrong and how to give the simple medications. My oldest son had eczema and asthma when he was young. I brought him to see many specialists, some medication did ...
Singapore Family Policy encourages working mothers, but not without consequences.
2007-06-22 07:36:00
Our public policy on the Singapore family must not be piecemeal, but must be developed as an entirety and then harmonized and coordinated throughout every Government agency and across all the fabric of Singapore society. This is the only way to make or keep us unique, as one Nation, one Singapore! We start first with explicit and defined social goals concerning the nation’s families, and then develop these goals based on clear, shared values of the type of families that Singapore really needs or wants. We then work out our action plans to attain these social desirables and goals.A noted weakness of our motherhood policy is lack of coordination among the different involved government agencies or the contradictory signals emanating from them. Lopata suggested that the problem connected with the study of all aspects of family life and interaction arise partly from the failure of public agencies to understand the importance of such research for the formulation of social policy. Government ...
Opportunity Costs for working mothers
2007-06-22 07:26:00
Given the constraints of time and space, every endeavour has its opportunity cost or trade-off. While working mothers have become a significant national economic force, the conflict or trade-off is how to balance work and family life. Aryee 1992 found positive co-relation between parental / homemaking commitment and work-family conflict. High demand from two worlds have caused many working mothers great stress resulting in low productivity and poor performances in their work and home duties, in turn furthering social and family problems. Is a woman really better off through sacrificing her natural role for a work career? What are the sacrifices and opportunity costs for a woman who actively involves in her career? Firstly, she gives up part of her irreplaceable childbearing gift. Compared to say 40 possible years of career life, a woman has only about 15 years for reproduction. If during this short window, she has to focus on career, the price or opportunity cost is simply the redu ...
A Mother's Story
2007-06-17 04:44:00
Here is a mother's story. I find her admirable."Hello,My name is Holly Mann and I am 24-years-old. I am making $12,000+ per month working online and I want to share my secrets, tips and resources with you. There are a lot of scams out there involving people who are trying to make quick cash and do not care about the customers. I am not like that. I understand your scepticism, so throughout this site I will be bluntly honest and provide as much PROOF as possible some people know of me from my eBook that I sell online, but not many people know my real story.I'll try to sum it up for you. Happy Father's Day
2007-06-17 02:45:00
Today is Father's Day. My husband received four Father's Day's presents from our children. "Aren't you lucky? Daddy" our oldest boy asked."Well, I feel I am more than lucky to have four of you."Dear friends, do you also wish your heavenly Father a "Happy Father's Day"? Here is a poem to share with you:Your Father KnowethA J FlintHe knows the need of my lifeFor shelter and raiment and food;In each trifling care of the dayThe word of His promise is good;He knows my thought from afar. The wish that I never have told,And every unspoken desireHis wisdom does grant or withholdHe knows the way that I take; Each step of that way He has planned:And, walking through sunshine or storm,I walk in the shade of His handIn deserts untrodden and drear,Where foes in the darkness may hide,He leaves me never alone; He sends me light and a guide. He knows the need of my soul-The trial that calls for His grace,The weakness that leans on His strength,The fear that looks up to His face.He knows what sifting ...

The reason for being a Stay-at-home mother
2007-06-13 11:54:00
I have talked to many SAHM mothers and found out the main reason for them to stay at home is Mother's Instinct. They wish to look after their children by themselves, especially in the early formative years. For the mother whose monthly income less than S$2,500 in Singapore context, it makes more sense to be a SAHM.Here explains-MotherSalaryS$2,500Children care per child*S$800Office attire and dry cleanS$200Eating outS$400 TransportationS$300Home repair and housekeepingS$200Hand phones and computers S$400Total Expense :S$2,300(*PAP childcare service will be much cheaper, however, many mothers still prefer otherwise. Hiring a foreign maid will not cost less.)For a professional or graduate mother, the opportunity cost to give up their career for is higher. Yet, for many of them, the desire of being with children is stronger than the desire in advancing personal career. One of mothers told me this way: “God has chosen me to be the mother for my son, this is my first duty.” If there is ...
