Robbers on High Street - Season's Greetings
2007-12-02 16:51:00
Another song to add to the Christmas playlist...Robbers on High Street - "Seasons Greetings"About the track: The song is originally found on the album entitled Daddy, Is Santa Really Six Foot Four? released on Bar None Records. It was written by Raymond Moberly and first performed by Teri Summers and the Librettos. Song-poems were a pop culture phenomenon in the 50s, 60s and 70s where everyday people would mail in their poems to "professional musicians" who would then set music to the poems for a fee, usually a few hundred dollars.Robbers on High Street websiteWisconsin indie music blog featuring free mp3 downloads from today's top independent music artists, news, social commentary, political watercooler gossip, and concert reviews.

Sunday Cartoons
2007-12-02 16:38:00
Hey, hope you're enjoying your weekend and that you weren't completely snowed in. We received a good 6 inches up here in the Northwoods, which unfortunately cancelled our dinner plans last night with friends. Instead we stayed in watching some the Big 12 Championship football (how bout those Sooners?) and drinking a recently purchased bottle of Arrogant Frog Ribbet Red.Unbelievably, I woke up this morning shovel-less. It's not a wise thing to be without a shovel in Northern Wisconsin in winter as I found myself digging the PT cruiser out of the snow drift with a kitchen broom and dustpan. We solved that problem this afternoon with a trip to Home Depot. The rest of our day has been spent in front of the tube taking in some quality football. In case you've missed out on today's action, you've missed the Bills stealing one late from the mourning Redskins,Indy squeaking by Jacksonville, and the return of Minnesota's Adrian Peterson. Better tune in to ESPN later to get your fix.As for ...

Friday Morning Shorties, Packers-Cowboys Aftermath
2007-11-30 06:41:00
Still hurting from watching last night's grueling and often painful game last night against Dallas. Green Bay's secondary looked terrible as I said expected it would without Woodson. Jarret Bush looked like a high schooler against T.O. Dallas is completely the team they're made out to be and are hands down the best team in the NFC. The Packers aren't far behind, especially when they're healthy, but last night that was not the case. Dallas certainly had some calls go their way as well, but you have to expect that and be able to rise above it. Green Bay just wasn't able to do that with the players they had in the secondary.Perhaps a greater cause for concern was Brett Favre's injury. The 38 year old quarterback walked away with a separated left shoulder and an injured throwing arm as well. He's hopeful to make next week's start against Oakland, but if not, Green Bay will turn to Aaron Rodgers, who proved he's finally ready to compete in the NFL as a starting quarterback when th ...

Sean Taylor, 1983-2007
2007-11-27 06:20:00
Sean Taylor, 1983-2007The NFL lost yet another of it's great young players. Sean Taylor passed away due to injuries suffered from a gunshot incurred when his home was robbed. Taylor was one of my favorite players in the league because of his performance on the field. I remember someone saying he played "like he was mad at the world"...and surely would have been one of the better safeties in NFL history had he had the chance to fully develop into the All-Star he would have. Unfortunately, he will never have that chance.Wisconsin indie music blog featuring free mp3 downloads from today's top independent music artists, news, social commentary, political watercooler gossip, and concert reviews.

The Cops
2007-11-27 06:19:00
Still recovering from gorging ourselves on various sorts of fowl and pies over the weekend but wanted to take a minute to mention something about The Cops, a Seattle rock outfit that's really coming on strong to the scene. Some Press on The Cops...“On Free Electricity, the Cops' staccato stop-and-go six-string rhythms couple with abusive drumming to create a surprisingly danceable set.” – Spin.com"The Cops are the Seattle rock act most likely to blow up global-style any minute now. Currently at work on another full-length effort coddled by local rock n' roll sage and apparent busybody Kurt Bloch, The Cops are going to have a tough time staying off everyone's radar real soon."- The StrangerFeaturing members of Hello from Waveland and Black Panties (and a brand-new bass player), the Cops make punk rock reminiscent of HFW’s Replacements-esque jangles but have a sharper edge. Fans of the Clash are strongly encouraged to get arrested." Seattle WeeklyThe Cops second full-length re ...

Shaping up to be a rough week at the office as I'm down my primary proofreader and even her backup as well. Luckily I'll have at least one day during the week to spend laying around watching football and being bloated. Not that that is a weekly tradition - well, at least the bloated part - but that's the joy of a holiday week.Of course, there's also a bunch of great music....The WhitsundaysGarage-indie outfit from Edmonton provides organ-fueled memories of their influences - The Zombies, Apples in Stereo, and more - on their upcoming self-titled release due out Jan 22 on Friendly Fire Recordings. Blender's Top 100 Indie-Rock Albums
2007-11-18 14:38:00
Thought I'd take a minute to drop in and post since the Packers are cruising against Carolina, 28-3, in the 3rd quarter.Having a pretty good weekend here in the Nort'woods. Felicia gave me one of my Christmas presents early, an XBOX, along with 7 games, including Madden '08. It's not the XBOX 360, but that's fine by me considering I've been playing the same system (Nintendo 64) and game (Madden 01) for the past three years. I'm not really much of a gamer as my dedication to Madden 2001 has shown, but nonetheless, the new system and games rock.Speaking of things that rock, I suggest you check out New York's The Vandelles.Their self-titled EP released on Safranin Records is part dirty-underground Ramones and part My Bloody Valentine if you're into the comparisons game.CMJ's Rabecca Raber calls The Vandelles a "noir garage rock quartet that blends girl-group harmonies, vintage '50s rock 'n' roll and layers of fuzzed out distortion." That works for us.Check out the tracks "Swe ...

Lou Reed and Nanking
2007-11-16 19:13:00
Lou Reed recently wrote some new songs inspired by the upcoming film Nanking. You can stream these new tracks at Lou Reed's website. To learn more about the film, check out the synopsis below or visit the movie website above.FILM SYNOPSISA powerful, emotional and relevant reminder of the heartbreaking toll war takes on the innocent, Nanking tells the story of the Japanese invasion of Nanking, China, in the early days of World War II. As part of a campaign to conquer all of China, the Japanese subjected Nanking – which was then China’s capital – to months of aerial bombardment, and when the city fell, the Japanese army unleashed murder and rape on a horrifying scale. In the midst of the rampage, a small group of Westerners banded together to establish a Safety Zone where over 200,000 Chinese found refuge. Unarmed, these missionaries, university professors, doctors and businessmen – including a Nazi named John Rabe – bore witness to the events, while risking their own lives to ...
