Lil Kim Leaves Atlantic Records
2008-01-22 14:53:49
Rapper Lil’ Kim has left Atlantic Records and intends to release her upcoming as-yet-untitled album independently.
On DJ Kay Slay’s Sirius Satellite Radio show “Streetsweeper Radio” last week, Kim shared that she harbors no ill feelings toward Atlantic. She said she was afraid to release her music independently several years ago but is now more comfortable in her knowledge of the music business to work her project.
It’s rumored that the MC will join Capitol Music Group’s independent arm, Imperial Records, however Kim’s management was unavailable for comment. Fat Joe is also signed to Imperial.
Lil Kim’s upcoming album, which was originally slated for February, is now tentatively set for April or May 2008.
Kim’s Atlantic swan song, 2005’s “The Naked Truth,” has sold 394,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

New Artist: Colin Munroe
2008-01-22 04:19:46
In the last two years, Ottawa, Canada native, Colin Munroe, has established himself as a go-to producer in Canada’s urban music community. Munroe co-wrote and produced ten songs on Ray Robinson’s Juno Award-nominated debut, What It Is and has logged studio time producing and writing with notable artists including Chauncey Black (formerly of Blackstreet), Glenn Lewis, Divine Brown, Saukrates, Sean Price of Boot Camp Clik and Degrassi: The Next Generation star Drake, among others.
Colin Munroe’s debut album, Don’t Think Less of Me, is a departure from his urban production. Rich in melody and depth, the album owes more to Colin’s love of Tin Pan Alley, The Beatles and early Van Morrison than Dr. Dre. In true do-it-yourself fashion, Don’t Think Less of Me was entirely written, performed, arranged and produced by Colin Munroe, first in his attic studio, before being completed at To ...

Missy Elliott Ready To Return
2008-01-22 04:03:49
After almost 3 years of staying out of the limelight, Grammy award winning rapper Missy Elliott is planning to release a new album this year and she wants to get into the studio with longtime producer Timbaland for the project.
Aside from an appearance on Keyshia Cole’s summer hit, “Let It Go” and an endorsement from Doritos, the music world
hasn’t heard much from Missy since her last album, The Cookbook, in 2005.
But according to Reuters/Billboard, the “Supa Dupa Fly” rapper is back in the lab. She’s already released two new songs “Ching-A-Ling” and “Shake Your Pom Pom,” for the Step Up 2 the Streets soundtrack (available Feb. 5).
Though Timbaland didn’t play a major role in The Cookbook’s production, Missy plans to reunite with the mega-producer on the new disc. Timbo is credited as being a producer on Missy’s first 5 albums (Supa Dupa Fly, Da Real World, Miss E…So Addictive, Under Constructio ...

2008-01-19 03:48:58
Yea Big + Kid Static are a Chicago based Hip Hop duo, Yea Big has done remixes for Minneapolis avant-hip hop outfit Kill The Vultures, the 12 Apostles label, Illegal Art, and continues to produce tour only mash-up and remix ep’s, the first two of which feature The Mae-Shi and Rapider Than Horsepower and Kid Static gained local recognition as the front man for the defunct instrumental hip-hop group, The Cankles, whose much lauded Goddamn!! dropped in 2005 along with Static’s privately issued solo debut Have You Seen This Man?
Yea Big & Kid Static are down with OCD! Together, they make retro futuristic comic book hip hop; the soundtrack for your next dance-off & the preamble to your next good times coup. When they’re not hijacking your brain piece, Static travels the country jumping onto and flying off of buildings as a Hollywood stunt double; while Big practices mind control techniques over a pack of designer breed dogs. Separately, these two heroes are a force to ...

Chris Brown, 50 Cent, Diddy And More Mega Concert At Madison Square Garden
2008-01-18 12:59:30
If you’re gonna close a show, close a show. After Lil Mama, Soulja Boy and Bow Wow successfully made the throngs of youngsters at Madison Square Garden scream and dance Thursday night, Chris Brown topped them all by bringing out about half a dozen guests onstage with him.
Most of them didn’t even have to physically be there to make an impact (more on that later). But three stars — who happen to be as perennially loved in New York as the Giants (at least when Eli Manning isn’t turning over the ball) — did show up live and in living color: Diddy came out for “All About the Benjamins” and “Last Night,” while Juelz “Stunting Hard in My White Mink Coat” Santana made a surprise cameo on “Run It.”
Probably the biggest surprise entrance of the night was that of the G-Unit’s Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo and, of course, 50 Cent, who once again shook the building with “I Get Money.”
The last time 50 hit the Garden, ...

Nate Dogg Paralyzed But Good Chances Of Recovery
2008-01-18 12:47:49
Former Death Row recording artist and noted collaborator Nate Dogg is paralyzed on the left side of his body after suffering a mild stroke over the holidays, according to his manager. As MTV News previously reported, Dogg (real name: Nathaniel Hale) is currently in an occupational rehab facility.
The prognosis for a full recovery, however, is good, Nate’s rep, Rod McGrew, told MTV News on Thursday night; the singer did not suffer any brain damage nor has his voice been affected, he said.
“Time will tell everything, obviously. The doctor can only guess what the outcome will be,” McGrew said. “But based on situations with similar people his age, and based on his health, the prognosis is good right now.”
McGrew explained the singer has “neural-muscular issues that have to be jump-started.” Those issues extend to his sense of touch and the ability to walk correctly, McGrew said.
Initially, there were conflicting reports surrounding the status of N ...
