KRAGENS - Infight
2007-12-20 13:58:00
Here we have a French band that managed to draw the attention of all those not familiar with their style, such as I. First of all, if you are a fan of Nevermore, Iced Earth, or good old-fashioned Power Metal, you will find plenty to like on this album. These guys know when to be melodic, when to speed up, and, for sure, know how to create music, catchy at all times, with touches from Thrash and razor-sharp riffs. Another thing that makes the album even more pleasant is the vocal capabilities of the singer. Harsh and raw vocals, not the typical high pitched one should expect, sometimes flirting with more brutal forms, but always fitting perfect with the style of the music. There is not a single weak point in this album, and the evebetteret thing is that there's enough variety in the songs, to keep the listener interested until the end. All in all, it's a vercarefulll work, with extra attention paid to the last detail. A must have. 10/10 ...
SEVEN TEARS - In Every Frozen Tear
2007-12-20 13:56:00
This band started it's existence early in this century in Sweden, when two 13 year old teenagers decided to create a band. A lot has been changed since, including names, and members, and this is their first full length album. First of all, the band is playing a Melodic style of Metal, with pompous vocals and tons of keyboards. Excellent and catchy music, well written and well performed, is what the listener will find here. The compositions are very good, with enough melodies, but also plenty of nice ideas, with the majority of them explored in a very professional way. A special mention should be made to the singer, Zoran Djorem, and his ability to color the songs in a very good way, and the guitar player who manages to create some great riffs and harmonies with his guitars. A melodic album, from a label that has used us in quality releases. Maybe it's too late to say if these guys are gonna be the next big thing, but for sure, from this album, they seem like a talented and inspired ...
3 HEADED MONSTER - 3 Headed Monster
2007-12-20 13:54:00
I thought that after almost enough years of listening promos and releases, I have heard it all, but no. Very ofter things come to surprise me, sometimes in a pleasant and others in a not so pleasant way. Thankfully this album belongs to the pleasant ones, so we are also commenting a few thoughts about it. The surprise is not about the style, although it has enough of them also, but it concerns the performance. The album is instrumental, something that is hard to find in an Power Metal album. The style is Power Metal, complex and with constant tempo changes, with enough doses of Progressive as well, always well performed, and never boring or repetitive. Along with this, the band manages to implement into their songs almost every Metal influence known to man, and they manage to do it in such a fluent way, that has left us speechless. A rather unique, but highly interesting and intriguing album. With enough elements to discover, a main concept, quotes from movies between the songs, the b ...
Quiet Riot Singer Died of Overdose
2007-12-11 01:42:00
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The death last month of Kevin Dubrow, lead singer for the 1980s heavy metal band Quiet Riot, has been ruled an accidental cocaine overdose.Clark County coroner spokeswoman Samantha Charles confirmed the cause Monday after toxicology results were received Monday.Dubrow was found dead Nov. 25 at his Las Vegas home. He was 52.Quiet Riot was perhaps best known for its 1983 cover of "Cum on Feel the Noize." The song, featuring Dubrow's powerful, gravelly voice, appeared on the band's album "Metal Health" — which was the first by a metal band to reach No. 1 on the Billboard chart.DuBrow recorded a solo album in 2004, "In for the Kill," and the band's last studio CD, "Rehab," came out in October 2006. ...
INDIGO DYING - Indigo Dying
2007-12-04 16:27:00
Indigo Dying, is Gisa Vatcky's first solo attempt, although she has worked with artists like Andrea Bocelli, Enrique Iglesias, Placido Domingo, Melissa Etherige, Meat Loaf just to name a few. Although not familiar with her previous works, I couldn't help but notice the talent of this singer, something rather obvious when your resume contains collaborations with singers like the above mentioned. The music is a mixture of Hard Rock, with enough Metal elements, melodic and catchy, and wrapped around Gisa's vocals, which is somewhat dominating the music, but leaves a good taste after all. The songs are well arranged and performed, and there are hardly a few less good moments. The guest vocals of Michael Kiske, and Mark Boals, only makes things even better and diverse. An album created around a charismatic singer, but also an album so full of nice music that will please all fans of Melodic Hard Rock. Check it out. 9/10 ...
ICARUS WITCH - Songs For The Lost
2007-12-04 16:25:00
This is the second album of the Pittsburgh oriented band, and I must admin, a very interesting one. The band has plenty of influences, and all of them are obvious into this record. Their main influence is Classic Metal, with excellent melodies here and there, some Sabbath and Maiden influences, but the result is unique and easy to stick with. The music is groovy, fluent, the melodies plenty and well worked, the arrangements well written and equally performed. A very good work has also been done in the vocals, not the typical high pitched ones, but more harsh, and more old fashioned in general. A cover of Def Leppard's Mirror Mirror performed by Joe Lynn Turner and Matthew Bizilia, the vocalist of the band, shows once more the capabilities of the singer, and creating one of the strong points of the album. The production is as good as it should be, and the album leaves a good taste. A band that we should expect much more from the in the future. 9/10 ...
DAWN OF SOLACE - The Darkness
2007-12-04 16:23:00
With a cover and a title like this, there's no chance the music of the album to be Melodic Metal, right? The album here is dark, as dark as it could be, with a melancholic atmosphere, aggressive, but also melodic and catchy in it's own way. Dawn Of Solace is the child of Tuomas Saukkonen from Before The Dawn, presenting a more dark and ominous style of his musical vision. The music is mid tempo, almost Doom at times, the vocals are both clean and Death, and the result is something suffocating and depressing, but also interesting, pretty much like the sick interest we show, when we pass from a accident scene. The arrangements are well worked, the blending of the two vocal styles has been done in an almost perfect way, so are the melodies. If you are a fan of this style of music, this album will please you in a very interesting way. 8/10 ...
Stargazer 13th Anniversary Party
2007-11-28 11:12:00
That was a cool metal party indeed! Our pal and cool metal figure Nikos Athineos did his best to organize another great anniversary (13th!) party for his radio show! You bet he really made it again! We also "helped" the situation with our humble DJ skills (hehe!). We won't say "see you next year" 'cause we look forward for the next party soon. Visit Nikos' page on MySpace. ...
THE CODEX - The Codex
2007-11-12 14:39:00
This is the first album of the band, that features Mark Boals on vocals, and Magnus Karlsson on guitars. This is the first time these two artists are together on a band, and the result is truly amazing. Maybe one of the heavier albums Mark Boals has ever participated, but at the same time, keeping the same high standards and Melodic trademarks, we are used to from his previous releases. The music is heavy and aggressive, but there's room for enough melodies also, something that makes the album really fun to listen to. The songs are catchy enough, and the rhythms are easy to follow, but also there's things to discover with a more cautious listening. A crystal clear production points out all the details of the music, and completes the album in the best way. This is really one of those Melodic Metal records that will stay in your CD player for quite some time. 9/10 ...
ACTION - Action
2007-11-12 14:38:00
Despite the self titled album, the band exists since mid 80's, although they have been disbanded during 90's. The thing that will take your breath away from the very first minute, is the ability of the band to write breathtaking melodic songs. Melodic music at it's finest, flirting with Metal, with tons of AOR elements and excellent songwriting is what describes best this album. The vocals are powerful, the melodies are plenty and catchy, the refrains catchy enough, and the keyboards plenty, but never dominating the music. A band that knows how to create a melodic album, with absolutely not a weak moment, rockin and powerful, with its hard and slow moments, with sticky ballads and harder songs. It's really hard to pick any songs here, or to distinguish the work of any of the members, as the album is balanced, with no dominating parts, but with members contributingequallyy to the result. The production comes to complete the album in the best possible way. If you are, and there are ...
AJATTARA - Kalmanto
2007-11-12 14:35:00
This is the new album release of the Finnish band, and once again an album hard to define but not so hard to like. Complex and very heavy, with enough ritualistic elements and styles, this band knows for sure how to create music, that it's interesting and really out of the ordinary. Blending elements from Black Metal, Doom, Gothic and Death, into a unique and well performed style, this band manages to keep the listener interested until the end. The vocals are extreme, sometimes flirting with Death and some others with Black, with the music having a dark and ominous atmosphere. Often enough, the band slows down to a Doom style of music, while others speed up to more extreme forms. The lyrics are in Finnish, as with their previous releases, something that helps in the atmosphere as well. All in all, this album can proudly bear the trademark of the band, although a few weaker moments do exist, not as many to destroy the whole result though. If you are a fan of the band, then you should ...

THE DUSKFALL - The Dying Wonders Of The World
2007-11-09 13:34:00
The story of the band starts back in 1999, but their experience goes back in time, in the Gates Of Ishtar era. This is their fourth full length release, and, if I am not mistaken, their first in Massacre Records. Like in their previous albums, the listener should expect only top quality Death Metal, refined by tons of Thrash into the music, and excellent melodies in the guitars. Although extreme at it's maximum, the band never repeats itself, and manages to create songs that are equally catchy and melodic, without sacrificing extremity or becoming boring. The music has a way to sneak into your mind, and yo will find yourself bang your head or tap your leg along with it, in no time. The majority of the songs are mid tempo, but when the band decides to speed up, things are getting even better. A fine and crystal production comes to complete the album, shaping the little details, and giving the needful final touch to it. I know there's many of you that are fans of the Swedish Death sce ...
SHATTER MESSIAH - God Burns Like Flesh
2007-11-09 13:29:00
Take into consideration the sound of Annihilator and Nevermore, two bands with respected careers and huge fan base around the globe. Now imagine a band that combines the technical stuff of Nevermore and Thrash parts a la Annihilator. This is exactly what we have here, and couldn't be otherwise, since the mastermind Curran Murphy has performed with both bands in the past. But tag them as another clone of a famous band, is not fair for the band, since their music is not staying into the common parts, but tries to implement even more elements from other styles as well, and extend this mixture to the maximum. Thrash and Power Metal co-exist with Classic Metal parts, making the music interesting to the last bit. Arrangements full of energy, melodies that stick into your mind, heavy andpowerfull guitar riffs, and a tempo that will keep your neck busy from the first to the last minute, is what the listener will find here. Taking in mind the sound of the band, I get the impression that they ...
