RIAA Sending out Emails to College Students Threatening Lawsuits
2007-10-10 18:01:22
“Any student on any campus in the country who is illegally downloading music may receive one of these letters in the coming months,” said Jenni Engebretsen, an RIAA spokeswoman. I’ll never buy the “It’s wrong, in some way you’re stealing” argument. Sorry, but I require that something be taken physically from point A to point B, without permission, for my definition. You see a painting/image/sign that you like. You stop and start carving an exact replica for yourself. The original is intact and untouched; you have your own version. Shoplifting is stealing. But downloading a copy is just that; an inferior copy without the package art or little lyrics booklet. There are still those of us who have legitimate CD collections, and a homebrew disc of mp3s doesn’t look good sitting up there. Also, America, you should rise up as one and utterly destroy the RIAA. Just wishful thinking. ...
All Along the Waa???
2007-10-09 16:59:31
Bear McCreary ??s insanely odd cover version of Bob Dylan??s All Along the Watchtower is featured in Battlestar Galactica??s season finale episodes Crossroads, Part I & II as the backdrop and apparent impetus for the season-ending revelation. What ’s the connection? Anyone? Who is the 5th? Who will survive the onslaught of war which began in the final moments of the episode? So, here I sit on earth WAITING. Will probably take until 2008 for the BSG network news signal to drift in space the millions of light years in distance to get to my sat dish to FIND OUT WHAT THE HECK HAPPENS. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!! Waiting 10 months for resolution SUCKS. ...
What Restrictive DRM looked like in 1909
2007-10-08 16:00:43
Think the record companies have only recently come up with the concept of screwing the consumer to maximize profits? According to this antique license, if you paid less than a dollar a song ($22 adjusting for inflation!), you could not listen to the music you legally purchased! Innacurate title. This cant be DIGITAL rights managment on an analog mangetic record. On topic: I understand there were restrictive licenses 100 years ago, but what groups/compaines/associations were going after their own consumers to enforce these licenses? The difference today is the agressive, sometimes illegal, enforcement by the RIAA and MPAA. ...

Top Cheap Russian AllofMP3 Alternatives
2007-10-05 13:01:18
The Russian government has closed down AllofMP3 and those who are trying to access its sister site, MP3Sparks, may be disappointed that the site also seems to have disappeared. But never fear, those Russians have plenty of alternatives. We take a look at some of them. Look, if you’re going to download pirate music, DON’T PAY FOR IT! It’s like paying to break the law or breaking it for free…only a retard would choose the former. ...
Tim McGraw Groped, Faith Hill Lays Down the Law (Video)
2007-10-04 12:12:25
If you were Brett Michaels jamming out in front of a crowd of thousands, you probably wouldn’t mind if some floozy groped you in the middle of the concert. You probably wouldn’t mind if several floozies groped you. But if you’re Tim McGraw, and you’re on stage with your wife, that would probably be something of a social faux pas. you know, he sells records based on sex appeal……and he’s basically wearing a gay mans leather fetish outfit…….yet his wife gets pissy when he JUMPS INTO A CROWD OF DRUNKS and gets grabed? you bought your house off the money you earned whoring out your husbands ass. what a douchebag ...
Hard Rock Park To Give ???Backstage?? Preview
2007-10-03 11:24:38
Ground has been broken in Myrtle Beach, SC, on Hard Rock Park, the world ??s first rock ???n?? roll theme park, and a 6-city U.S. tour of music and memorabilia starts today to promote the opening of the Park??s preview center this month. As a Myrtle Beach resident I can tell you that we are looking at this new park with both trepidation and anticipation. In the 15 years I’ve been here there have been numerous ventures that have been hailed as the next great thing to bring more tourists to our beaches including, Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood, and numerous theaters in the vein of Branson, MO. Most have failed but a few have made it. The biggest problem is we don’t have an interstate that comes all the way here and our airport pretty much sucks! However, we do have a KISS coffee shop that kicks some serious ass besides the fact that a coffee is probably like 10 bucks. ...
EMI says DRM-free music is selling well
2007-10-02 09:57:28
EMI’s senior VP Lauren Berkowitz reports that sales of the label’s digital music sales have seen a spike in sales after going DRM-free through iTunes a few weeks ago. If EMI can maintain that increase in sales, the other major labels may follow sooner than later. “…sales of the label’s digital music sales have seen a spike in sales..” huh? EMI’s senior VP Lauren Berkowitz reports a spike the label’s digital music sales after going DRM-free through iTunes a few weeks ago. oh… ...
Australian air guitar T-shirt actually rocks
2007-10-01 09:13:42
Australian scientists have invented a T-shirt that allows air guitarists to play actual music as they strum the air. The T-shirt, created by scientists from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), is called a “wearable instrument shirt”. So when did it become cool to be a poser? Come on people, pick up a guitar and learn to play, don’t bother with some cheesy shirt that will lose its fun in 2 minutes. ...

100 Greatest Guitar Solos (w/ Tablature)
2007-09-29 07:13:02
What follows is the list of all 100 songs selected, listed with the guitarist who played the solo, the band who released the album, and the album name. Clicking on the song will take you to the guitar tab for that specific solo, and in some cases, additional notes like how to get a similar guitar sound. I just picked up the guitar again after a couple years hiatus. Great timing for this article. BTW, ultimate-guitar.com is a good alternative to OLGA for those in need of another tabs site. ...
RIAA - Sue Bush’s Daughters for $1,800,000 in Damages
2007-09-28 06:57:15
Mitchell Silverman, an attorney in Florida, noticed in a recent news-story that GW Bush’s twin daughters presented him with a mix CD of exercise music for Father’s Day. Since the record industry maintains that making and distributing mix CDs is a copyright infringement, Silverman sent their legal offices a letter on letterhead asking them to sue. So my question is, because I haven’t really researched it too much (because it doesn’t matter, good work RIAA a few hundred down a few billion to go), but is copyright infringement an actual CRIMINAL act or is it just a CIVIL crime? I.E. are the powers that be .required. to investigate this, or will the RIAA just turn their heads because they have their cawks in booshes arse? ...
VIDEO: Stevie Wonder Goes Off on the Drums!!!!!
2007-09-27 06:09:27
Who knew he could tear up the drums too…… Goddamn that was fucking sweet. This kind of solo appeals to me more than like anything Mike Portnoy or Neal Peart do. Just straight up grooving and no “check this out it’s in 15/4 and I blast on the double bass through all of it”. ...
