Man Caught Stealing Bike Wheels, Set to Music
2008-02-10 10:56:27
Daniel is a musician, and he set the video to a song as a form of therapy. Sure, this guy got some wheels, but he also got thousands of people watching him and thinking what an a**hole he is.
You know this video made me think, a part from the scary fact that CCTV is set up all over in this community watching everyone, it does leave you with interesting point. If we put cameras on every street who is going to look at all that video? No one, it is not going to be looked at unless someone reports a crime. Now we see not one but several people go by and no one says anything to this guy or reports it. So here is the rub, if you wear a hood and no one bothers to call in the crime if there happens to be cameras or not will have no effect on crime, but I am feel quite chilled knowing that 80% of London is being watched at all times. It works great on innocent dissidents, but notice it did not stop those terrorist from planting a bomb and I am pretty sure unless they wanted to be caught that l ...

Free download of Experiments in Musical Intelligence
2008-02-09 09:59:38
Since the early days of Experiments in Musical Intelligence, many audiences have heard its output in the styles of classical composers. The works have delighted, angered, provoked, and terrified those who have heard them. Ultimately, the computer is just a tool with which we extend our minds.
The Bach piece starts with one of the Goldberg variations and mixes in bits of others where they fit, much like the Beethoven piece starting with the Moonlight Sonata then introducing other compositions. Granted, the cross mix is very well done, but the original works still need to be present for the process to continue. Calling this composition is like taking two paintings by the same artist, photoshopping them together, and calling yourself an equivalent artist.
The program fulfills its original 1981 brief of providing inspiration, one supposes, but if you really want to take its measure then listen to the “original” works. They’re a bit austere for my taste.
It might be int ...

Why New Music Doesn’t Sound As Good As It Did
2008-02-08 08:53:46
Never mind that today’s factory-produced starlets and mini-clones just don’t have the practiced chops of the supergroups of yesteryear, pop in a new CD and you might notice that the quality of the music itself??maybe something as simple as a snare drum hit??just doesn’t sound as crisp and as clear as you’re used to. Why is that?
Its called “Brick Wall Limiting” it’s been the standard pretty much for over a decade in masterhouses when dealing with heavy music. Its been creeping its way into many other type’s of music the last few years and its almost comical!! Don’t blame the record industry entirely!! Artist’s often request this type of mastering.. How do I know? I’m a mastering engineer. Personally… it drives me nut’s! Literally.

Who is YsabellaBrave? A 2nd lonelygirl15, or merely a young talented woman?
2008-02-07 07:56:51
You’ve seen the digg link to her page - it’s been dugg over 2800 times.
On her profile at YouTube.com there are photos of a twenty-something woman with a full mouth, dark eyes, and in thumbnails from her videos, ever-changing hair.
But the question is - who is she? Is she an act, like lonelygirl15 last year, or an original, shooting to fame?
What I want to know is do I hear a bit of a lisp on her S’? It’s difficult to determine because of the quality of the audio … anyone have any idea?

DJ Spooky: How a Tiny Caribbean Island Birthed the Mashup
2008-02-05 05:56:07
Paul D. Miller, also known as DJ Spooky, That Subliminal Kid, has been producing beat-heavy electronic music for more than a decade. From his early solo trip-hop efforts to his more recent collaborations with jazz giants, Spooky has always approached music from multiple angles at once. He has the chops of a musician, the genre-blending……….
DJ spooky is kind of a hack. I’m pretty sure he just read the book Wikinomics and applied all of those ideas to music tech. He even uses the exact subtitle of the book “Mass collaboration changes everything”… like he just thought of that on the spot.
I like the guy, but I think he fancies himself some kind of philosophical hero. Hes more of a scholarly know it all than a DJ.

Wil Wheaton’s Geek in Review: Sound Salvation
2008-02-04 04:52:12
This effort to wipe out independent online radio has nothing to do with protecting artists, and everything to do with protecting a status quo that supports a very few top 40 acts at the expense of everyone else. In their effort to protect their outdated business model, the RIAA is happy to prevent their artists from reaching potential customers…
The so called revolt is probably going to be the phase change that pushes Digg over the edge.
What that particular edge turns out to be remains to be seen. Will it in fact be a growing pain or just a new level of noise to add to the din? In the long run I think it’s a good thing because either way it signals a change in Digg, and not just the mechanics or the process, but a more fundamental change in the user base itself. Whether that turns out for good or ill, only time will tell. Wil raises a good point though. Wouldn’t it be nice to see that level of passion and social activism harnessed for things that matter on the net ...

MTV’s fledgling download service streams DJ mixes
2008-02-03 04:06:17
Looking to lure fans of electronic music to its fledgling digital download service, Urge, MTV today unveiled a series of streaming DJ mixes, complete with play-lists from which users can buy music. Dubbed “Digital Decks,” the DJ mix series is being kicked off by famed Chicago house and techno producer DJ Green Velvet, also known as Cajmere.
Avengelist:
Electronic music was born in the basement clubs of London sometime between 1977 and 1979. That’s London, England. England is in Europe, in case you weren’t aware. The sound quickly spread to surrounding cities and, by the end of 1978, had overtaken many of the major night spots in Europe. It was on this wave that the club scene in Ibiza was established.
It wasn’t until a few savvy individuals brought the sounds of 4×4 house and the original sounds of English techno to New York and Miami in the early 1980’s (1982, specifically) that electronic music caught anyone’s attention in the United St ...

2008-02-02 03:01:29
Some of these are just terrible. Includes the classic breasts/mountains Shakira combo.

“I mix your milk wit my cocoa puff,
Milky, milky cocoa,

All that junk inside your trunk?

let a computer sing it for you!
2008-02-01 01:54:31
Just type in your text and an online application will look up song lyrics that match, and put then together into one song!
“There is no spoon.”
“Be afraid, for the end is near.”
“I can’t get you out of my mind.”
Those are three sentences that I found that actually work reasonably well..
Also, “It is the end of the world.”

NIN releases Garageband and other Source files for three songs.
2008-01-31 01:07:37
Capital G, My Violent Heart, and Me, I’m Not.
The subtlety of these loops just blows my mind, I’ll never listen to the songs the same way again. And apparently, according to the extra files for Capital G, I’ll be deceased within 15 years. Bummer…

Creed’s Stapp arrested for assault; his crimes against music go unpunished
2008-01-29 23:56:47
Scott Stapp gets drunk, beats up his wife, gets arrested. But where was the law when we were being assaulted on a daily basis by “Arms Wide Open”?
Be smart and think about it. Just because a band says they are “Christian rock”, doesn’t mean they are Christian. Just look at P.O.D.. They claim to be Christians, and as such plays Christian rock. But since they open for Ozzy , does that make their “Christian rock” is awesome to you? Use common sense and don’t be haters of Christians or Christian rock just over what some band members do that happen to claim to be Christian rock artists. Personally speaking, there are plenty of real Christian rock bands that do in fact rock.
Judge the music, not the genre!

Producer ordered to pull early Taylor Hicks songs from iTunes
2008-01-28 22:59:53
“American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks won a preliminary injunction in federal court in Birmingham this week against a Nashville music producer who allegedly sold 5-year-old recordings by Hicks via Apple’s online iTunes Music Store.
All you guys BS’ing about this article because it is Taylor Hicks STFU.
This article is important and interesting not because it is Taylor Hicks, but because it addresses issues pertaining to music ownership and distribution rights.
The agency trying to distribute the old tracks could not find a record company to market them to. The agency is able to find a market now because of Taylor’s popularity from American Idol. The old tracks are most likely not of the caliber that Taylor and associates wish to represent as “Taylor Hicks” at this point in time. Having those tracks released would have negative impact on Taylor’s career.
Old agency failed, Taylor + American Idol succeeded. Old agency is trying to capital ...

Rap star loses Diddy name rights
2008-01-27 22:06:00
Rap star Sean Combs is no longer to be called “Diddy” in the UK after he agreed a settlement with a music producer already known by that name.
Can I still call him “Talentless Buffoon”? Or “Greedy Ego-Bag”? Some people you just have to admit have no purpose whatsoever. Occasionally, one of them gets rich or famous. If I believed in god, the existence of Sean Combs would really bug me. I thought Bob Dylan was being a little harsh, but maybe he was on to something.

RIAA Boycott, Day 1: ‘Music Theft’ Settlements Offered by Record Industry
2008-01-26 21:00:11
The RIAA says it’s going to offer a special deal to certain college students, letting them off easy instead of suing them for hundreds of thousands of dollars for illegally downloading music. The recording industry Gestapo said letters were going out offering “discounted settlements” to 400 students at 13 universities across the United States.
I wish we could Bury the RIAA.
I found a Anti-RIAA Petition online. Makes you feel marginally better. Only like 700 signatures so far thou.

12 of The Worst Cover Songs
2008-01-25 19:57:32
My favourite worst cover song in the list is “Stairway to Heaven”, by Dolly Parton. I challenge anyone to find a song they would download on itunes and pay actual cash for.
I was honestly angered to see that William Shatner’s “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” cover wasn’t on the list.
