Get Traffic from Technorati
2008-02-01 01:08:00
In order to turn your blog as well as this blog into money making machine it needs to have traffic. No traffic simple means no money. The higher the traffic you get, the higher the chances of you getting big money. So getting traffic is all important. Many first time blogger automatically assume that once their blog is setup and they put a few posts on it, they will get some hits and regular readers. This is definitely a wrong impression. You won't get any traffic if no one knows about your blog. So at this early, it is good to focus on how to boost traffic for your blog.I took a look around at what some of the successful blogs were doing and came up with a number of traffic strategies that help them increase their blog traffic. As we go along, I will discuss these strategies one by one. For now, let me talk about boosting your blog traffic with Technorati.Technorati is one of the best traffic providers for bloggers. When to Start a New Blog
2008-01-25 20:55:00
I was reading a post over on the A4U Forum today about when the best time to launch a new site is. Perhaps the immediate answer that comes to mind is "when it's ready" but I don't think it's that simple.Obviously, you want the search engines to index your site as quickly as possible but you also don't want people visiting and being put off by incomplete content before it's ready. Plus you don't want to upload a site with a load of dead end links. This is why I always try an adopt a "stages stratergy" when I'm uploading new sites. What I mean by this is that I'll always split parts of the site up so that they can be published independantly of other sections, as this way you can get some inbound links and keep adding more content gradually. ...

Let People Rate Your Blog - Blograte
2008-01-24 20:52:00
I came across Blogarate the other day, which is a cool widget that lets readers give your blog posts a star rating out of 5. It isn’t just a rating system though, it also sends blog posts back to the Blogarate website, along with the post star rating, and displays it Digg style.Obivously, it's advantage over sites like Digg is that you're actually giving a post or article a rating, which could be good or bad, as opposed to just voting for decent posts, which is much more useful for the author.Although this is a pretty good widget, I think it's more suited to business or news type blogs than personal blogs. I reckon it would be especially good for content or article sites/blogs that are using wordpress as a cms, as it's a good way to get feedback on your content from your users and probably get some extra traffic from the Blogarate site too. ...

Make a Blog or Website to Earn Online
2008-01-23 03:34:00
After having a online business idea in your head, the next step you gonna do is to make a new blog or website. At present, you can either make your own website from your HTML knowledge or using softwares like Dreamweaver or Frontpage. On the other hand, there are many free or paid websites that provide you with thousands of professionally-designed templates. Bu before doing so, you need to make a self-assessment and think about the following questions:1. Would you like to make money with PPC programs like Adsense, Bidvertiser or TLA? If yes, you'll need to plan for on-site advertising space in the website design.2. Do your website design need to have forums or message boards so that you can interact with your readers?3. Do you want to reserve some space to display articles or posts?4. Are you going to use a content management system (CMS) to run your website?5. Is there a need to add audio or video player on your website?Once you have answered these questions, it is time to start desi ...

I Am Back!
2008-01-21 09:55:00
I have to say I miss you all. Can someone tell me how many days there are for my disappearance? I guess there should be more than 5 months!! I am so sorry that I haven't posted any Adsense tips and tricks in the blog for so long. I was busying with my stuff in my workplace. In September and October, I was working in a project for a development in Kygyzstan (hope my spelling is correct though I worked as a planner for over two months with this lovely country), a nation in Central Asia. Originally, I would like to share the CGI images showing such development for nearly 2,000 hectares, but unluckily I still kept them in my ex-working company. And then in November and December, I worked in the government and handle all the planning application (there is a completed and well-structured planning system in Hong Kong here). So I am quite busy from time to time over this three months. While I stopped to post for a week, I found that I was getting lazier and lazier to post a new post. After a mo ...

More on Comments of Blogs
2007-08-21 01:14:00
Does not having a comments facility mean it’s not really a blog? Do comments add to the quality of a blog? I know that some bloggers have even disabled the function of comments in their blogs? This post to follow my yesterday's post on the importance of comments.Who reads comments anyway?Just about the only time I ever actually read comments is on the first visit to a new blog that I am weighing up. I scan down the main page and see how many of the posts have "Comments (0)". If nobody is commenting, then my instinctive reaction is that the blog is not worth reading. If the blog passes that very unscientific test of mine, I add it to my RSS Feed Reader (in my case Flock), and after that I never read another comment on that blog. Ever. For this same reason I also seldom add comments to other blogs. Will we turn commenting off here? That’s a tough question, because one of the reasons I like commenting as a blog author is that it is a type of affirmation. If I write this lengthy post and ...

Importance of Responding to Comments
2007-08-19 22:59:00
From time to time, your blog must receive some comments to your posts, right? It is quite basic to spare some of your blogging time to respond those comments. As my time is quite ample, I can definitely do that thing and respond to and moderate all of them. However, it is often one of the things that slips for many bloggers over time as a result of a growing blog.To me, it is very important to repsond comment in order to keep the readership. By thank youing the commenter, you are sort of encouraging them to stay tuned with your blog. When the others see these conversation, they will know that the blogger is keen to respond to all the comments, and their questions will also be answered very soon. It provides incentive to them to leave their quesitons or opinions in your blog. On the other hand, the comment section can provide a chance to develop a small community in your blog. This happends when some regular visitors help you respond those simple comment or questions. This can build up ...

Create Heatmap with Crazy Egg
2007-08-15 13:46:00
In order to discover which ad placement give the best result and find out which design encourages visitors to click deeper, you may need a heatmap to assist you. There may be many heatmap generation service out there, but the one I am currently using is CrazyEgg. The basics of this tool are that it tracks where readers of your blog click when surfing on your blog. It creates a heatmap of the results. One useful service offered by CrazyEgg is "Confetti". This records the exact location of the visitor's clicks on a page and then analyze the result by a series of ways. Confetti also allows you track people according to their operating system, the keyword that they arrive on a page using, browser, window size and even how long they stay on the court before they click. It is very important to know the clicking pattern of visitors. There are some real benefits that CrazyEgg brings to us. For example, CrazyEgg tracks clicks on ads like AdSense. You can then know where on the ad they click, tes ...

How many Inbound Links Do You Need?
2007-08-13 13:02:00
Today, I am going to focus on Page Rank again. As you may know, SEO talks about two things - On-page optimization and Off-page optimization. You can handle the on-page optimization without any problem since you can have full control on what to show or to have in your site. On the other hand, it is not under your control in case of off-page optimization which talks about the inbound links. As the title of this post implies, how many links do you need to in order to achieve certain PR of your site? First of all, let's look at the table below: Therefore, as you can see from the above table, if you want to achieve Pagerank 6, you need at least 18.5 external Pagerank 6 links, 101 external Pagerank 5 links, or 555 external Pagerank 4 links. Of course, getting inbound links from a higher PR site will become harder. Sometimes, you may need to pay for those inbound links. It depends on you whether it is worth to buy those inbound links. This table partly relfect the truth that you should get ...

More on Google PageRank(TM)
2007-08-08 11:41:00
External linking is the largest factor in determining PageRank, and is the place where you have the least control. There is no way to force another web master to link to your site, especially when they already have a high PageRank. For this reason and many more, increasing your PageRank is difficult, but important nonetheless. In this section we will discuss why external linking is important to the PageRank of your web pages, what the correct way to link is, who to request links from and why these links have such importance. The actual amount of effect that Google's PageRank has on the ranking of a website or web pages is debated, and it is probably safe to say that Google will not be letting us know anytime soon. What we do know is that a web page's PR does play a role in Google's indexing and Google's ranking. The higher a web page's PageRank, the more frequently it will be crawled and refreshed. While in most cases, a higher PR will accompany a higher-ranking site; it is not alw ...

In-depth Explanation on Google PageRank(TM)
2007-08-07 11:41:00
For those who are not familiar with Google's Page Rank(TM), which is commonly known as PR, it is Google's calculation or score of a web page based on external and internal linking of a site, as well as on-page criteria of the web page being linked to as well as the web page being linked from. The Page Rank calculation is much more detailed and complex, and we go into the calculation in more detail later in the tutorial, as well point out other places that you can read up on how Google calculates a web page's PR.Before you can begin to develop or increase the PageRank(TM) of your website and individual web pages, you will need to evaluate what the PageRank of your site's pages is currently. To view the PR of your site you will need to download the Google Toolbar.PageRank is in some ways related to link popularity, but the calculation is dependant on the quality and strength of the links, not just the number of links. So, how does one go about building and increasing their Page Rank. ...

Submit Your Site Instantly with Directory Submitter
2007-08-03 21:44:00
As the search engines are evolving each and every day, it's getting harder and harder to get top search engine rankings. The search engines now, highly favor, websites that have a large number of quality, one way links pointing to them. Because of this, it's absolutely critical that we consistently try to get other websites to link to us, WITHOUT us linking back to them.Yes, reciprocal linking is becoming less and less valuable. Submitting your website to website directories is an excellent way to get, quality, 1 way links pointing to your websites. You see, many of the website directories online have a high amount of page rank and have been online for several years. These are 2 of the most important criteria for determining what a good link is, vs what a bad link is. These two criteria are:1.The age of the website linking to you2.The Page Rank of the website linking to youWith that said, many of these directories have both a high Page Rank AND are old websites, giving them more author ...

Directory submissions as a Promotion Strategy
2007-08-03 03:06:00
Yesterday, we have talked about the Article Marketing. What about other marketing strategies? Have you ever heard of directory submission? There are a huge number of directories available, even I have one directory for Ad Publishers. Most Often, it is free to submit your site to more than a hundred of directories with high PR. You will be able to specify submission title (e.g. anchor text for you link), your description and your link. Good news is that it will not cost much to submit your web-site to directories starting with PR4. But let's think about content where your link will be listed. If you are submitting business management related web-site, then you should carefully choose a category to place your link, the perfect would be "Business > Management", but there will be also a lot of other links. Take this blog as an exmaple, I would choose Computers and Internet > Blogs > Make Money to be my subcategory. There is no guaranty that Google will treat these links and their descripti ...

Setup Your Blog in Blogger.com
2007-08-01 18:37:00
There is a lot of free blogs on the web that you can choose. But the one in blogger.com is a bit different. It allows you to paste your own Adsense ads here and make money from it. Why don't we take a ride and open a free blog account in blogger.com?The application is very simple and consists of three steps:1. Choose a blog name you like:You can choose a nice sub-domain for your blog. Just pick up one name that best describe your site. Also, it should be easily memorable to visitors. Apart from that, if you have your own domain or subdomain, you can also use your own domain to replace the one in blogger.com. In my case, I choose http://www.blogformoney.org/ as my blog URL. In the new version of blogger, you may even apply a new domain name and then host this domain at Google server at dns.google.com. In this way, you can have an unique domain name like mine, and no need to apply for a web hosting service which is a bit expensive.2. Provide your personal informationThis step is also ea ...
