 Ninja Monkeys!
Whatever catches our internet-shortened attention spans will probably be propped up here as a decoy to lure your boredom out in the open, where we’ll silently glide out of the shadows and slit it’s tedious throat. Because we care. |

How useful are you?
2007-08-08 02:36:07
The technology quiz says I’m technologically useful. Which means that if I go back to caveman days, I’d be able to fast forward civilization to the 17th-19th century at least. Yes, let’s face it, I’m awesome.

31 Wheel Roller Suit
Update: Yep, the tricks are impressive, but what about speed? Check out this video of the Frenchie taking his suit down a mountain pass. Nerve-wracking stuff!

Blanket Octopus defence mechanism
2007-08-03 05:32:29
When threatened, this type of Tremoctopus, or blanket octopus (murasakidako in Japanese), unfurls a giant sheet of webbing that trails behind like a cape. The cape easily breaks apart when attacked — much like a lizard’s tail — and it gets wrapped around the predator’s face, allowing the octopus to flee

Deep brain stimulation: restarting coma patients’ consciousness
2007-08-02 03:05:25
SCIENTISTS have jump-started the consciousness of a man with severe brain injury in a world-first procedure in which electrodes were inserted deep into his brain.
The 38-year-old, who had been in a minimally conscious state for six years after an assault, could only move his fingers or eyes occasionally and was fed through a tube.
Now he can chew, swallow and carry out movements like brushing his hair and drinking from a cup, say the US neuroscientists who carried out the procedure, known as deep brain stimulation.
Progress like this gives me new hope for humanity! Link

Pistol Shrimp’s deadly weapon
2007-07-20 07:25:34
Pistol shrimps stun their prey by snapping their piston-like claws shut, thus blowing a blast of water at a speed of 100km/h that momentarily reaches the sun’s temperature. Probably not something you want to keep in your aquarium.

Ten politically-incorrect truths
2007-07-20 06:50:51
Most of these “truths” sound like they were sucked out of someone’s thumb, but the reasoning behind them makes for interesting reading. I prefer brunettes for some reason, so that must mean I’m not a man…bugger. But I’m all for #2… Just kidding honey!
Men like blond bombshells (and women want to look like them)
Humans are naturally polygamous
Most women benefit from polygyny, while most men benefit from monogamy
Most suicide bombers are Muslim
Having sons reduces the likelihood of divorce
Beautiful people have more daughters
What Bill Gates and Paul McCartney have in common with criminals
The midlife crisis is a myth—sort of
It’s natural for politicians to risk everything for an affair (but only if they’re male)
Men sexually harass women because they are not sexist

iTerm tip to get forward (alt-f) and backward (alt-b) word working
2007-07-19 04:25:17
iTerm is a fantastic replacement for the Terminal application in Mac OS X, but the standard way of jumping backwards and forwards by word doesn’t work. So after some googling I found Hackaddict’s method and adapted it to my needs.
Open iTerm.
Go to Bookmarks > Manage Profiles
Choose Keyboard Profiles on the left and edit the Global Profile
Next to Mapping, click the + sign.
For Key, choose hex code.
In the text box next to hex code, enter 0×62 for b and 0×66 for f
For Modifier, check the Option Box
For Action, choose send escape sequence
Write b or f in the input field for hex code 0×62 and 0×66 respectively.
Now alt-f will jump forward a word and alt-b backwards a word.
Yay!

Curiosity killed the Christmas lights
2007-06-27 04:53:43
If you’re like me then you’ve never outgrown the need to do things just to see what will happen. After finding the joy of microwave grape racing at an early age, I constantly have to fight the urge to stick random objects in the microwave just to see what happens. Luckily the lads at u-starvin have had the same urge, and recorded videos of Xmas lights, soap, deodarant, candy bars, etc. getting nuked. Ahhh, the wonders of the internet. Where else can great minds come together and share their discoveries so freely. In the Name of Science! Link

Choice is powerful
2007-06-26 08:38:28
Isn’t it funny that we now choose to watch commercials on the internet when we so desperately try to ignore them on tv. Choice is powerful.
p.s. the video is the XBOX 360 mosquito advert. Great concept, well executed, with well-integrated CG and visuals.
