The 101 Dumbest Business Moments
2007-12-17 15:09:18
Fortune has compiled quite an amusing list of the idiocy fun things that have happened in the business world. The top one is, of course, the various mishaps of China. During 2007, the Year of the Pig, Mattel is forced to recall almost 20 million items made in China because of lead paint on toy cars and tiny magnets that could be deadly if swallowed. Pet food makers recall more than 60 million cans of food laced with tainted melamine in wheat gluten from China. A huge underground distribution network for steroids, human growth hormones, and other bodybuilding drugs is traced to 37 companies in China.” Check out the rest of the list for some truly funny stories. ...

About that tuna you’re eating…
2007-12-15 10:11:56
As we all know, China is the land of lead contaminated toys - just imagine what could be happening to the fish they send to the West. Unlike Aquadots, you’re actually supposed to eat the denizens of the sea and, well, bad things could happen if the utmost care is not taken with them. To relieve any tension you might have, here’s an investigative looking into the workings of your average Fuqing Province fishing plant: “Fuqing is one of the centers of a booming industry that over two decades has transformed [China] into the biggest producer and exporter of seafood in the world, and the fastest-growing supplier to the United States. But that growth is threatened by the two most glaring environmental weaknesses in China: acute water shortages and water supplies contaminated by sewage, industrial waste and agricultural runoff that includes pesticides. The fish farms, in turn, are discharging wastewater that further pollutes the water supply. “Our waters here are filthy, ...
The Customer Is(n’t) Always Right
2007-12-12 07:30:41
Humorous Work Stories Here at MoneyMoose we understand that there are some (albeit few) funny things about work. A site called The Customer Is Not Always Right has a very amusing list of real work experiences that showcase the idiocy peculiarity of shoppers everywhere. Although MoneyMoose does not often write about humor, we too can appreciate the hilarity of these articles. Take this one, for example: (A customer wanders down the paint aisle I’m working on and asks for advice on which paint to use. I tell him, and he asks for the differences between brands) Employee: “Brand A is just a bit thicker than Brand B. But other than that, they’re pretty much the same.” Customer: “What do you mean ‘thicker’?” Employee: “The paint has a thicker consistency.” Customer: “I don’t understand.” Employee: “Do you know what cake batter looks like? And water?” Customer: “Yes.” Employee: “Cake batter is thicker than water, like Brand A is thicker than Brand B.” Cu ...

November News of the Moose
2007-12-02 12:54:00
MoneyMoose has shambled along another turkey-filled fun-filled month. We’ve gone through some major changes, the most visible of which is the new and, if I may say, very shiny design. I think it fits the very professional and shiny-like format of the site. A new segment has also been added which details some very simple ways to save money on everything from washing the dishes to watching television: Frugal Living EXTREME! As I sit in my comfy swivel chair kicking myself from wall to wall of the room and bumping into random things, I can’t help but think of the greatest posts of the month. Well, actually I can, but for the purposes of this post lets say I can’t. Anyway, here are some gems from this month - my most popular and, in my opinion, best posts with some background info: Learn the Struggles of Future Car Entrepreneurs Gem of the story: “…The designers must have some grand plan in mind. Lets see what they have to say about it: ““I know nothin ...

Guerilla Job Recruitment Techniques
2007-11-27 22:01:48
Recently I heard a story about a job recruiter from a friend, and I must say that the recruiter’s way of trying to get him a job was quite intriguing. I’ve compiled a step-by-step guide so that you too can be as ingenious as him. Either hire someone with a thick Indian accent or learn to speak with one. By thick I mean impossible to hear. You’d have to already have an Indian accent and then perhaps burn your tongue to get the level of thickness required. Get a bad phone with a shaky connection Find someone who wants to get a job through whatever shady methods you choose (Monster.com, perhaps? Something like that) Call a potential worker (from now on referred to as PW) The conversation will go something like this: (more…) ...
The Future of Cars and the Entrepreneurs that Create Them
2007-11-27 04:30:08
Sadly, the cars of tomorrow probably won’t speedily hover down streets - they’ll look a little like the three-wheel two passenger seat motorcycle/car hybrid above. A cartocycle, perhaps? Motorcarcle? Mocarcycle? I suppose the naming will be thought up of later. There’s more to these new inventions than just flashy names, though: (more…) ...

Free hugs for your RSS feed
2007-11-25 09:15:40
If you’ve got a blog with an RSS feed and it’s feeling sad, then you might want to give it a hug with rssHugger, a new service that seems to be a web directory for RSS feeds. Now I don’t usually do internet marketing related articles but I’ve decided that my original plan of spelling out my blog URL in the sky with exhaust fumes from a rental airplane wasn’t going to work out. This website, on the otherhand, promises this: (more…) ...
