Shoulders - One Of The Most Unstable Joints
2007-07-11 13:38:00
by J.J. Flizanes of invisiblefitness.comI found this great picture from the Mayo Clinic...I wanted you all to SEE what the shoulder joint looks like. The reason it is one of the most unstable joints ( but it is one of the most MOBILE) is because the head of the humerus ( your arm bone) is larger than the groove it fits into ( the glenoid fossa). And if you really look at it, you should wonder how the arm stays in place??? Muscle and soft tissues. Lots of different muscles attach on the humerus and around the shoulder... in fact MOST of the upperbody musculature attaches around it! There are lots of ways to abuse it and I see it ALL the time. My question to you is , if you could work the muscles WITHOUT degenerating the joint further, would you? I would think everyone would say " of course!" but I keep seeing people choose exercises that have more risk on your shoulder then you need to work the muscle. So to be brief because this could get very lengthy, I will list the 5 top NO NO exerc ...

Should You Train Muscles To Failure?
2007-07-09 16:18:00
Duration 2:47Resources:Start Strong MondaysStart Strong ArchivesRed Hot MetabolismMy Interview With Shawnby Shawn PhillipsThe answer:For maximum results in the least amount of time, take a set to failure. But first…build your neurological networks.Listen for the Key Moment:Failure defined…I agree... male or female, young or old, must follow this advice and this principal. On the same topic, sort of... , is about working your abs with hundreds of reps. Let me ask you this... would you pick up a dumbell and do 100 reps of curls to get better biceps? Would you do 100 reps of bench press with 25 pounds? or would you bench 200 pounds for 6 to 9 reps? Same thing goes for abs guys and gals. Low reps, high weight and high intensity. ...
The Healing Process - Dr Dean Black Phd
2007-07-06 18:57:00
Often in the course of the healing process old symptoms temporarily reappear. Why should people have to go back through these old problems in the course of getting better? I like to picture the healing process as going up a flight of stairs. At the top of the stairs, the energy is balanced, all the nutrients are present in their proper ratios, and the body is functioning properly. When someone's health begins to deteriorate, he moves down the stairs, and at each step along the way he experiences a specific kind of symptom- perhaps less energy at one step, headaches a little farther down, an ulcer still farther, and so on. As the body begins to heal itself once again, the person begins to move back up the stairs and re-experiences the symptoms associated with these various levels of health. Experiencing such healing reactions can be very distressing for many people because we have been taught in our society that symptoms are somehow bad. When a person is experiencing a healing reacti ...
Wow What A Stir This Commitment To Weight Loss Has Had
2007-07-03 11:39:00
I've been overwhelmed with email and responses to a recent post about One Serious Commitment To Weight Loss on my other blog.So much so that my day yesterday was spent answering emails rather than writing. It was a very moving day for me with a lot of energy flowing.Based on the responses, I've found a few things of note. Some people do not understand why I thought it was the best email I've ever received, others completely resonate with it and others were so offended by the word "fucking" that the looked past the message.I've had responses from both sides of the fence, some in support and some condemning my use (or rather the writers use) of the f word. One reader even capitalized F when talking about it... giving it some sort of amonous power just with the letter. If you don't agree with the word, why not just make it lower case? Kind of like God vs god.uh oh.. God and Fuck in the same paragraph?I've let my hands be tied because of my wish to not offend anyone but no longer ...

Happy Birthday Canada
2007-07-01 12:30:00
July 1st - Canada's BirthdayI'd also like to wish Karl Riesach a very Happy Birthday was well. I grew up with Karl and he moved to Edmonton a few years ago. Haven't spoken to him in quite a while, so I guess I should give him a call today. Also, birthday wishes go out to Kim Hartmann, an ex girlfriend of mine who celebrated her birthday yesterday, June 30th.My plans for today are to go do some cardio as soon as I publish this, then train legs tonight. I got invited out to a party at a Penthouse right down on the north side of the river here in Edmonton. That should be good. I figure, what a good way to have some fun and do some networking. The invite I got was from a good friend who I first met at Peak Potentials Millionaire Mind, Merv Kit. After I decided to go, I found out that the penthouse owner and Canada Day party host has a website called Zig Tag. Had a look and from what I see, this should be a very educational party.Happy Birthday Canada, and to all, have a very sa ...
Qray - Do Qray Bracelets Really Work?
2007-07-01 10:52:00
You've seen them on TV just as I have, the Qray Bracelet. The question is Do Qray Bracelets Really Work? Runners use them, golfers use them, or so the advertisements seem to tell us. They're used to balance the Yin and Yang forces in our body and create a state of Chi. The background of the Qray Bracelets is Chinese, and I'm a big believer in Chinese medicine, having eaten Sunrider foods for over 16 years now. I've done a lot of reading and research and my entire nutritional program and belief is largely based on Chinese and Ayurvedic Medicine.I have been wondering about Qray for quite some time now. If you use the qray bracelet or know somebody who does, please leave a comment or get in touch with me. I'd like to hear from real people who got results, one way or the other. It seems so simple and the price is right, ranging from $60 for the entry level basic finish qray bracelet right up to $190 for the combo deluxe. I see that the qray pendant that I was going to get droppe ...

Fit Bastard Rant About Children and Obesity
2007-06-28 11:03:00
My friend Scott Tousignant went on a rant in his video about the Childhood Obesity epidemic broadcasting live from his 5 year old son's bedroom.Being a role model for your children is so important. From his blog, Scott begins with this:"The statistics are now showing that 30% of children are overweight and obese. This is sick! The crazy thing is that I’m sure there is a large majority of children that are on the borderline of falling into this category. My family and I were at a camp ground last weekend and I am not exagerating when I say that 90% of the children there were overweight. It was really sad and very upsetting to see so many unhealthy kids and to think of what kind of future they are going to have."Yep. It starts in childhood and then ends up where a major city like Calgary has to buy a specially equipped ambulance for obese patients.According to The Center For Health and Health Care in Schools, the George Washington University Medical Center (March 2005)"The rapid increas ...

Everything Follows Focus...

I posted something a few weeks ago about focus. Then today Shawn's audio message for Start Strong Mondays is about Focus! Coincidence? I think not. Proof that he's reading my blog? not likely.Focus is very important to me, especially in the gym. It's through mental preparation and then visualization while I'm training that, I believe at least, gets me some really good results. I visualize my workout before I do it. This happens as I begin to think about what I'm going to train that day, the exercises I know I'm going to do. I do them over and over ...
Canadas First Obese Ambulance Service
2007-06-24 11:51:00
Calgary Alberta Canada has a new ambulance on call for Obese patients. It's designed for patients weighing between 400 and 1000 pounds. (181 to 453 kg). It was created to allow for some decency in transportation for the obese individual. ScientificAmerican.com says "Calgary's new ambulance will ensure that there will never be shocking images of obese patients being transported by trucks, as in the United States." The ambulance had $30,000 worth of special modifications including a hydraulic lift. They're calling their group the "Bariatric Response Team"According to Statistics Canada "In 2004, an estimated 5.5 million Canadian adults - 23% of the population aged 18 or older - were obese. These people tended to spend their leisure time in sedentary pursuits and to eat vegetables and fruit infrequently." I had no idea obesity was so prevalent, that nearly 1 in 4 Canadians were deemed obese.Calgary is a short 3 hour drive from my office in Edmonton, and it was through an Australian l ...
