2007-10-31 18:31:00
Happy HalloweenDarlene and I have been working on preparing a bunch of Halloween recipes that make use of your pumpkins. This is a great time of year to buy up a bunch of pumpkins for use as food. The pumpkin is a squash the same as butternut squash or spaghetti squash and goes well in many types of recipes. My personal favorite, especially this time of year, is a curry. Here are two Halloween recipes we have for your right now, Pumpkin Corn Chowder and a Pumpkin Apple Curry. Just this morning we did pumpkin pancakes, but it won't be released until this weekend.Visit my other blog for more Halloween Tips.

Turning Fat Into Bone
2007-10-31 11:26:00
Standing on a vibrating platform for 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week is turning fat into bone, at the rate of 27% At least for mice.Dr. Rubin, director of the Center for Biotechnology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, is careful not to have us jump to any conclusions just yet but he and many others are finding this test done with mice, using no drugs, to be quite interestingInteresting enough to have the National Institute of Health do a full study with elderly patients..The mice in question stand on a small platform that buzz’s at a specific frequency, for 15 minutes at a time for 5 days a week. When they get off, they’re 27% less fat and have 27% more bone. What I’d like to know is, what size of a platform would a human have to use?Dr. Rubin and his colleagues caution that it is not known if standing on them strengthens bones in humans. Even if it does, no one knows the right dose. It is possible that even if there is an effect, people might overdose and make t ...

New Rule - No More Celebrating Gastric Bypass
2007-10-30 17:03:00
via Josh Streeters New Life Fitness,From Bill Maher, August 29th, 2003's show Real Time, during his "New Rules" segment:All right, New Rule: No more celebrating gastric bypass. Carny Wilson, Al Roker and now Starr Jones are all being heralded by the media for stapling their stomachs shut. They shouldn't be. They're not making a brave choice to change. They're giving money to doctors to reroute their ability to turn food into crap. It's like kicking cocaine by crazy gluing your nostrils shut.I understand that for some, Gastric Bypass surgery may seem like the only option or the final option in some cases. I get it. What I would like to say is that, to me, in my opinion, it's simply a lack of knowledge about how the body works, how the body uses food, other options for emotional eating such as Emotional Freedom Technique or the SP6 patch that has an incredible effect of ending cravings.Gastric Bypass does not educate the patient about food, about how the body uses food, about endin ...

Why Have I Not Written A Book?
2007-10-29 17:52:00
I got this question today from a subscriber to my weight loss and natural health newsletterQ: Hi Rob,a question has been bothering me about your site and newsletters, and i thought it best to go straight to the source. Why have you not written a book, rather than give away this information for free? Please don't take this the wrong way, Its just I'm hyper-sensitive to possible Snake Oil peddlers, and trust is a difficult issue for me.Best wishesJimA: Simple answer Jim. Fear. It’s a tiny bit of fear and a big part of "who the hell would want to listen to me anyway" issue.Just recently, and I mean just in the past week, have decided to do just that. Write my book. I've been talking about it for years and have never come through with the finished product. I’ve started it a few times and then just left it.I've spent the better part of the past two years thinking each and every day about what I'd say, what's important to know about and in what sort of format I'd present the mate ...

Biggest Loser Not Realistic
2007-10-22 16:10:00
I received an email from an editor of the New York Times (NY Times) regarding an article they were doing about the television show "The Biggest Loser".They wanted my opinion about the show and it’s impact on the general viewing public.Do I have an opinion about "the Biggest Loser" ? YepFirst and foremost, I want to say congratulations to all those who have been on the show and have dropped the weight they have. Well done. I would love to hear from them and find out how they’re continuing in their lives after the show.My biggest issues with the concept of this show is that it isn’t realistic. The healthy way to lose weight is through a combination ofChange in eating habits to whole foodsIncrease in movement, both cardio and weight trainingA change in belief systemsIt’s an entire lifestyle change. In my opinion, doing this for the sake of losing weight is not the correct approach. I believe that we have to make changes in our thinking and being a program of health. A goal of ...

Raw And Organic Almonds To Be Treated With Banned Carcinogen
2007-10-17 13:50:00
… treated with the banned carcinogen for your protection of course …Almonds are a unique package of nutrients – a good source of protein (6 grams per one ounce) along with dietary fiber, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, magnesium, manganese, copper, zinc, iron and vitamin E. In fact, one ounce of almonds provides about 7.4 grams of alpha-tocopherol vitamin E, 50 percent of the RDA. Almonds are the only good source of protein that is also an excellent source of vitamin E.Read more about Almond Nutrition and Facts And now, Almonds will soon be a good source of Propylene Oxide, a possible human carcinogen and highly toxic flammable compound. The nutrition of almonds, the vitamins, minerals, good fats and enzymes are heat sensitive. Pasteurizing them kills them. Pasteurization heats the fats and makes it rancid and promotes ill health. Why does the USDA think that decreasing the nutritional value of the food will make it better for human consumption?OrganicConsumers.org says this a ...

Alcohol and Weight Loss - Your Choice
2007-10-12 20:04:00
Can you drink alcohol on your weight loss program? I have to admit that I love a good red wine and an imported beer, so I’m no different than anyone else, however, when I’m fully committed to getting results, quick results, I have to cut alcohol from my diet.We know that a glass of Red wine is good for us with all the antioxidants they contain, but what place does it have in your diet when you have other goals? If you’re happy burning 1 pound of fat per week while drinking a glass of Red wine every other day, then fantastic. If you’re not though, and 1 pound a week isn’t cutting it for you, then you have to make a choice. It’s all about choices. Life is about choices. Getting quick weight loss results is a choice as well. Before even getting into alcohol, lets discuss whole foods briefly.I heavily promote the importance of eating a diet rich in whole foods vs processed foods. Processed foods are cheap and lacking in nutrition. They are easy to prepare though, but what’ ...

Putting Intensity Into Your Workouts
2007-10-10 14:14:00
Scott Tousignant from The Fit Bastard recently wrote an article about how to exercise less and get better results on your weight loss program. Scott and I both agree that once you've passed the beginner stages of training and your body is ready for a powerful workout, the best way to get results is to lower the time in the gym and increase the intensity.5 Rules For Getting More Out Of Your Workout1) You need to have purpose and passion at the foundation of each workout. Purpose comes from realizing that this individual workout is a step toward achieving your ultimate fat loss goal.Passion comes from realizing all the benefits associated with accomplishing your fat loss goal, such as looking hot in a bathing suit, getting compliments from your friends and spouse, landing your dream job or getting a promotion, increased confidence and self esteem, knowing that you will be around to play with your grandchildren or see your own children get married, and so much more.2) Make every workout ...

Fighting Age With Muscle
2007-10-01 17:25:00
I've been training since I was 23 and I'm turning 40 this year, so building muscle and keeping my muscle are two of my favorite past times. I have long touted the benefits of muscle mass at improving energy levels, burning fat and it's effects on anti-aging. The human body is the only machine that gets stronger the more you use itThis special report by Mens Health - Fight Age With Muscle shows us that weight training as we age helps us in many areas of our life and health, from osteoperosis to erectile dysfunction, to improving sleep and lowering stress. From the comments that I overhear from seniors, most complain about fitness and weight training and are cautious about injury not realizing that the opposite is actually true. Begin weight training, increase bone density, increase flexability and reduce sickness to name but a few benefits. My friend Jon Benson has a fabulous book of inspiration which includes success stories of athletes over the age of 40. This indepth look at who ...

10 Reasons Sugar Is Bad
2007-09-27 16:00:00
I'm sure that you know your body is a sugar machine right? At least I think you know that. Your body runs on sugar, it's a sugar machine. However, it's food that gets properly digested and then converted into a special type of sugar that your body runs on, not table sugar.Too much sugar, eaten directly, can and will mess with the fine balance your body has already put in place. Too much sugar can tax your pancreas while it deals with blood sugar regulation. Tax it for too long and it will give up, ending in blood sugar disease such as Diabetes.:Kristine, my ultra homeopathic physician was to submit a very up close and personal article on the truth about sugar, diabetes and syndrome X, but alas, it was not meant to be this week. Computer issues have put the article on hold for at least one more week while she sources out a replacement computer.I'll be reintroducing a few of the top reasons that sugar is bad for you over the coming days and weeks, starting with these from Nancy ...

I was stunned and said so in my reply. Now Scott Bird confirms on his blog that yes, Target is indeed selling Kettlebells. Well holy shit!
