Fatboy 2 Fitboy Turkey Chili Recipe
2008-01-18 23:05:35
Fatboy 2 Fitboy Turkey Chili 20 oz package of Jennie-O 99% Fat Free Turkey 1 can Publix Whole Kernel 50% Less Salt Sweet Corn 1 can Publix Black Beans in Seasoned Sauce 1 can Publix Diced Tomatoes with Roasted Garlic & Onion 2 tablespoons Bob’s Red Mill Whole Ground Flaxseed Meal This is a cheap, simple recipe that you can cook in about 15 minutes if you have all the ingredients in stock. This is a GREAT value and is very tasty as well. Cook turkey in pan (spray with Pam or substitute to avoid turkey sticking) until brown. Put corn and black beans in a drainer and rinse with water to get rid of extra sauces. Add corn, beans, tomatoes, ground flaxseed and ½ cup water to browned turkey. Let simmer on medium for 8-10 minutes. I can get four good meals at about 300 grams per meal. Fitness is not a destination, it is a journey with many moments to appreciate
2008-01-17 20:25:17
Tonight is upper body and abs, if I can squeeze abs in. It is not my favorite thing to have a weigh training session knowing I have to get up at 5:45am the next morning, but it had to be done. The long four day weekend will allow me to get some extra sleep, so I can push it hard tonight. I am down 104 pounds so far since I started in May/June of 2007. My lateral quickness is slowly coming back to me. The legs feel much more solid when I make my cuts and jump when playing basketballI have had a few “moments” along this journey- where I can distinguish exact progress from one phase to the next and it feels amazing.I was playing 3 on 3 basketball last week and the first game I was a little tentative (Playing against 20 year olds and being double their weight will do that to you). I didn’t do much and we lost 15-5.The second game, I felt a little looser and hit a jump shots, drove a few times and we won 15-11. My drives mostly ended with a pass. I haven’t gotten t ...

Failure is not the end, it is the beginning
2008-01-15 19:55:01
One of the biggest keys to changing my attitude towards my health and fitness was admitting that my life plan was not working. We all develop routines and systems in our lives to survive, either consciously or subconsciously. We each have a certain way we get ready for work in the morning, how we unwind from a hard day’s work or how we brush our teeth. Each and every action is part of our life system. My life system revolved around the fastest way to hit the Burger King on Sunrise Blvd by I-95 after work, then analyzing the Burger King menu to get the most food for my dollar. My life system was a failure. The way I was living my life was not supporting anything good or worthwhile. There is no course or class in high school that teaches you how to develop a life system that enhances your life. Imagine a pro athlete like Kobe Bryant- his coaching and training staff provides a near year-round program for him to follow with monthly and daily goals. His mission is to be the best NBA ...

Post Workout Shake
2008-01-14 17:33:06
After a weight training session, my body is begging to be fed. The muscles are just waiting to be flood with nutrients and vitamins. The 60 minute window after you lift weights is the most important time to properly feed your body. This is the shake I use: 2 scoops Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein 100 calories Dextrose 100 calories Maldextrose 5 grams of L-Glutamine Large glass of water 1 Animal Pak vitamin pack They are a million ideas and concepts for the “right” shake or food mix to consume after you lift weights. This shake I found by doing some research on my own. Some people prefer to eat real food after they workout. You need to find what works for you. For me, the shake feels right because I can imagine the shake rushing into the muscles and flooding them with nutrients. Call it positive mental reinforcement if you like, but it works for me. The benefits of protein, dextrose and maldextrose in your post workout meal are well-documented. Once I know what I am allowed ...

How I became 450 pounds and why a lawyer changed everything
2008-01-13 23:32:41
In high school (1991-1994) I was fat, probably about 325 pounds or so. I was an active fat kid, always playing football or basketball with friends but I would down 2 pizzas afterwards. Yes, I have an insane appetite and I vividly remember winning eating contests in the high school cafeteria. Once I got in to college (1995-1996), I wanted to get girls so I went on a diet. With the help of my doctor, I went from 360 pounds to 210 pounds. You would think life would be good, but it was not. I was tired all the time and sustained myself on salsa and rice mostly. The doctor put me through an array of tests, they even took a marrow specimen because they feared I had leukemia, but it all came back negative. I was tired all the time, but no one could tell me why. I knew nothing about lifting or nutrition, all I knew was eating less meant losing weight. After dealing with the breakup of a girlfriend (1996-1997), I stopped caring about my weight. I ballooned up to about 350 pounds once again. Th ...

5 A.M. cardio and how Michael Jordan taught me nothing else matters when you are focused on a goal
2007-12-24 21:39:12
Since the gym closes at 2pm today and I work until 5:30 pm, I decided to get to the gym at 5am for my cardio workout. Amazingly, there were about 10 other people there for a nice early workout as well. It felt good to put in my “work” early. Mentally, it makes it a little more comforting to know I can enjoy Christmas Eve dinner without a self-guilt trip for not getting to the gym. After I got to work and weighed myself, I was down 87 lbs total. Reflecting back on the past 6 months, one thing came to mind- this has been a really fun experience. Seeing my effort translated into raw weight loss is nice, but the true pleasure is knowing where I started from. The hardest part of the entire process was being 440 lbs and actually walking into the gym for the first time in years. I was scared, nervous and honestly, had no idea I would be where I am now. Sprinkle a little faith and determination on anything, it will flourish. My mindset right now is pretty simple- nothing else ma ...
