For most of the morning, I had been watching the Giants' ticker tape parade up Broadway and at this very moment as I compose this post, I'm watching their victory ceremony on the steps of City Hall. What a sight! Wow. What a great day for the city! Go G-Men! (I was surprised to learn that Super Bowl XLII was the most watched Super Bowl ever. Impressive. Read here). So much has been happening during the past couple of days: from the South Street Seaport Museum to the Giants' Super Bowl win to the still photography permit to my medical checkup to Super "Duper" Tuesday.First, on Saturday afternoon I went down to the South Street Seaport Museum where I met up with Su and we watched the documentary film, City of Water, which is about the history and future of the NYC waterfront. Since my bridge project is related to the issue of the use and appreciation of the city's waterfront, I was very interested to see what I might learn from this film. Though only about 30 minutes in length ...

super bowl or super tuesday?

I think I might be more excited about Super "Duper" Tuesday than today's Super Bowl. I mean, don't get me wrong. I am excited to watch tonight's game and will be rooting for the Giants wholeheartedly to beat the seemingly indomitable Patriots, but there's something about the hype leading up to Tuesday's primaries that I'm finding electrifying. I guess I'm just more of a political animal.Last week I mailed in my absentee ballot for New York's Democratic Primary. Rather than walk over to the polling site for my district (which is only about 2 blocks away), I decided to complete the process by mail so I wouldn't have to go over there wearing my surgical mask and deal with neighbors and such. Why Tuesday Won't Be So SuperWhy I'm Backing ObamaWhy Republicans Like ObamaRace Matters. Yesterday, we lost yet another prizefighter to this horrendous disease: Sarah Hawthorne.I was stunned when I learned the news yesterday afternoon on the WebMagic Forum. It came as a complete surprise. Sarah was one of the first people, whom I met (virtually) who like me, had failed an auto SCT for relapsed Hodgkin's.As I reflect upon how quickly this remarkably kind and gifted friend was snatched away from us, I'm finding it difficult to express my thoughts well right now. I sit here before my laptop trying to type something half-way eloquent, but it's a struggle. It's as if I'm in front a bare wall.I just want Lorraine, her partner, to know that Sarah touched the lives of many and that she will be missed greatly. Sending you, Lorraine, love and kindness. ...

I just received a postcard from the Lymphoma Research Foundation informing me of the 2nd Annual New York City Lymphomathon on April 26th.Since 2003, the Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) has raised almost $4.5 million through its nationwide Lymphomathon program. The Lymphomathon is a non-competitive 5K walk where survivors, family, friends, community and corporate teams walk in honor and in memory of those whose lives have been touched by lymphoma. Funds raised by participants will support the Foundation’s mission of eradicating lymphoma and serving those touched by this disease.Click here to find out if your city will host a Lymphomathon. ...

Like many Americans, during the lead-up to yesterday's South Carolina Democratic Primary I had become increasingly irritated by the news media's effort to mold yesterday's contest into a race in which the end result was to determined solely by race and gender. You don't know how tired I became listening repeatedly to the news networks and the pundits talk about the significance of the black vote in S.C. as if they were the only people who mattered. There was so much focus on the black vote that it was a rarity to hear about the white vote, which makes up the other half of the S.C. Democratic electorate, or any other constituency. I just wished the news media directed their collective attention to the serious issues at hand, the issues that matter.Secondly, I also became turned off increasingly by the Clinton machine's (in particular, Bill Clinton and the surrogates of his wife's campaign) injection of divisive, race politics, which I think was displayed most poignantly when t ...
