How do you feel about this?
2008-01-28 19:48:00
Check out this 8 minute video on treating fibromyalgia with mind-body medicine. This is a great explanation about the importance of working with your mind to address the emotional reactions of stress built up over time. I love it when M.D.'s recognize the link between physical symptoms, the brain and the body/mind! This doc uses emotional stressors as an example of a potential trigger for disease, but environmental stressors (toxins, pollution, pesticides) could be another example. Dr Schubiner can be found at The Mind-Body Center of Providence. Here's a 3 minute recommendation:More links:Dr. Schecter's websiteDr. Sopher's websiteDr. Smith's websiteBE WELL.

Getting your mind primed for Wellness
2008-01-17 12:04:00
This link records a fibromyalgia case study based on the teachings of Robert Dilts and others. On the homepage of I.A.S.H, a non-profit organization, it states that the mission is to support a community of healers from all disciplines who share a commitment to the use of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) presuppositions, distinctions and processes in their work. They consider what they do complimentary health as it can be used in addition to standard medical practices. Excerpted from the book "Beliefs: Pathways to Health and Well-being," a book that covers this practice, Robert Dilts with Tim Hallbom and Suzie Smith write....1) Decide what you truly want. It must be something that is within your control and something you do want, not "don't want." Determine how you will know when you have achieved your outcome. What will you see, hear and feel that will provide evidence?-What are the positive and negative consequences of getting your outcome? Modify your outcome to take care of any i ...

The Body Bears the Burden
2008-01-08 07:32:00
Robert Scaer, M.D., in a four decade career in neurology and rehabilitation medicine, has devoted himself to the alleviation of pain and suffering. From the foreword to Dr. Scaer's book "The Trauma Spectrum," Peter Levine, PhD adds his thoughts on the association between disease, trauma, and the brain: "We store the effects of trauma in our brains and, therefore, our bodies, often in the form of chronic pain and dysfunction such as migraines, asthma, fibromyalgia, and severe PMS. Many people suffering from these disorders go from doctor to doctor, and from alternative healer to alternative healer, often with little lasting relief." On page 81 of "The Trauma Spectrum," Dr Scaer writes "“In fact, I believe that the most common complaint in current medical practice, that of persistent and unexplained chronic pain, has its roots in the persistent changes in brain circuitry associated with unresolved traumatization, and the continued tendency for dissociation to occur in the face of stre ...

What Worked for Me, Part IV
2008-01-07 17:05:00
Healing by Changing my MindIn order to have wellness, one has to want wellness in a congruent form. Often, we aren't consciously aware that some part of us feels "safe" in our current condition. At one point in my journey, I remember my coach asking me if there was any part of me that objected to becoming healthy again. I hesitated. Will people expect more of me if I'm well? Will I be able to live up to the expectation of others if I'm well? Will I lose some attention if I'm well? Almost my entire adult identity was seen as a person with health issues. Of course I wanted to be well, but there were these little voices, little parts of me, that were unsure about change. So in order to create wellness, it's really important to clear out those interferences. There were other "interferences" I needed to deal with that required outside assistance. I didn't know how to move from illness to wellness. How does a well person behave? What does wellness look and feel like? I couldn't remembe ...

Fibromyalgia and Wellness in 2008
2007-12-30 13:29:00
We don’t know what causes fibromyalgia. There are genetic and environmental issues, psychological and spiritual factors may sometimes be involved, and a host of unknown factors also. Continue your efforts to heal your fibromyalgia. While you are doing this, also consider the meaning of this illness in your life. Think about your fibromyalgia as a teacher. What are your dreams telling you? Think about your vulnerabilities and what you would change about your self. Search for meaning that this illness can open up for you.For example, you might have been the eldest child of parents who had little time or energy for you. Maybe you learned not to expect anything from anyone else. Instead, you learned to take care of others. Giving became your "default position" in life. Learning how to receive -as well as knowing how to give - would give you a richer, fuller life. That change will eventually produce feelings of wellness. Your emotions and your feelings play a role in healing. So while on ...

Sharing an Email worth reading!
2007-12-18 12:58:00
I just received this email, and since Louise Hay's book "You Can Heal You Life" had a very big positive impact on my own healing journey, I feel the email is worth sharing. I already posted about the dvd coming out, but here, Gregg Braden comments beautifully, as usual! P.S. I have NO financial interest in this promotion, I simply believe in the power of the insights offered!Long before the mind/body connection became main stream for the new age, Louise Hay was already teaching it to those searching for hope and meaning during the mysterious AIDs epidemic of the 1980s. From living rooms and churches to talk shows and study groups, the simple, yet eloquent message of her first book has touched tens of millions of lives in the most intimate, yet profound way imaginable-by giving back the peace that comes from rediscovering our own connection to life. If you've ever suspected that you're waiting for just the right time and just the right reason to awaken your own power to heal, now is ...

Thank you for the lessons Abraham

The doctors have told them there's nothing else that can be done. Nothing else can be cut out of you or zapped out of you. No other medicines can make a difference. Then-- and usually ONLY then -- is that person willing to do the only thing that works anyway: to line up with the idea of wellness.Asheville - May 4, 2007How do you use your imagination? Well, first of all, you put you in the picture and then you live as you would like to live from an inside feeling place. You feel how your body feels; that’s a good place to start. Now this is your call, you are the architect, you are the creator, so you can be as vital and alive and youthful and flexible and good feeling and slender and eager and happy as you want to be. And so, stand in your body, and put yourself anywhere that pleases you, on the golf course, in a swimming pool, on an airplane, in your motor coach. Put yourself in any environment and feel how good your body feels.Since it is a virtual reality, make the temperature e ...

Bernie Siegel, M.D. on wellness
2007-12-07 07:22:00
"I see many people recover from life threatening illnesses when they learn they have a short time left to live. It is at that moment of reckoning that they begin to live their true life - what is in their hearts. Then, they feel so good they don't die."Our survival is dependant on certain factors that relate to establishing meaningful relationships in all aspects of our life:· expressing appropriate anger· asking for help when needed and to saying "no" to things we don't want to do· making therapeutic decisions about our treatments· keeping our power; maintaining control of our health and well-being· using our emotions and pain to heal rather than being depressed by them· finding our inner child and living our unique, authentic lifePositive data abounds on how these factors relate to our health. For example, a recent study of AIDS patients found that the long-term survivors are significantly different psychologically from those that deteriorate and succumb to their illness. All ...

Fibromyalgia and food
2007-12-04 16:16:00
Well this is fun! A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled experiment investigated whether chocolate exposed to “good intentions” would enhance mood more than unexposed chocolate. On the third day of eating chocolate, mood had improved significantly more in the intention conditions than in the control condition. So the experiment concluded that the mood-elevating properties of chocolate can be enhanced with intention. So raise your mood by having some intentional chocolate! On a more serious note, when I have a meal alone, I have begun to put intention into the foods I eat. This practice involves focusing only on the task at hand----eating! No distractions like TV or negative thinking (this potato is going to make me fat....) The mind is a powerful ally in how we feel, and when I am truly grateful for each bite I take, and focus on the benefits of the food to my physical body, miracles happen. I choose more carefully, I eat more slowly, I enjoy my meal more, and I feel grate ...
