"If man will think only thoughts of perfect health, he can cause within himself the functioning of perfect health; and the Power of Life will be exerted to assist him. But this healthy functioning will not continue unless man performs the external, or voluntary, functions of living in a healthy manner.Man's first step must be to learn how to think perfect health; and his second step to learn how to eat, drink, breathe, and sleep in a perfectly healthy way. If man takes these two steps, he will certainly become well, and remain so."from "The Science of Being Well" by Wallace D. WattlesI'd add the spiritual componenent, and in my series "What worked for me", I'll talk more about my 3 pronged approach to wellness.BE WELL. ...
21st Century Medicine
2007-10-22 19:25:00
Larry Dossey, M.D. reports that a nearly single-minded clinical focus has obscured patients' interpretation of their own experiences, leaving out important clues about how people heal. He's written many books proposing an evolution (rather than replacement)of 20th century western style medicine. The following is excerpted from "150 years of Healing" by R.L. Miller, PhD at Cornerstone BooksPhysician Larry Dossey, in his book Meaning and Medicine, summarizes dozens of studies relating thought and body-condition. Over and over again, the difference comes down to belief. People who remain healthy (or become healthier!) under stress believe they have control over their situation. People who die without apparent medical cause believe they are dying. Immune systems are weakened (and often, death soon follows) in widows and widowers who believe they are forever separated from their beloved.Citing numerous other studies, and some quantum mechanics, Dossey goes on to suggest that not only is th ...
A Fun Diversion

Jenny Mannion, over at Heal Pain Naturally, invited me to play a little game. This certainly falls in the category of using your mind to live your best life, so I'm IN! You can play at home too! Here are the rules. Name 5 or more imaginary university level courses you would love to take that will "fix" something in your life(for me "fix" reads "grow"). Jenny came up with some winners and you can track back through the ideas of those she invited and who invited her. It's fun and interesting to see what people want to work on and maybe something will inspire you too! So with a few moments of thought, here are a few courses I would LOVE to grow with!Cultivate Patience: Even dreams and ideas that are fully formed may take a long time to get into circulation. Learn not to be attached to the results of your actions. Teacher: Nelson MandelaEmbrace your Bozo!: You will learn to put down all pretense, let go of embarrassment, and celebrate imperfections. The path to freedom comes by embraci ...
Bill Harris on Resistance and Pain
2007-10-17 03:19:00
"There is substantial evidence that almost everything you experience begins with certain internal thinking processes you can learn to direct." (Bill Harris)So what exactly is resistance? Resistance is nothing more than making internalrepresentations of what you do not want. When you resist, you make internal pictures of, have internal dialog about, or in some other way make a mental representation of what you do not want. And, whenever you do this, you feel bad in some way—in other words, you suffer. If you have physical pain, do you believe you have no choice but to resist it, and no choice but to suffer? You can resist it, or let it be okay. The sensation of pain will be there either way, but the suffering is there only if you resist.Pain is a type of kinesthetic intensity. But there are three kinds of intensity: positive intensity, the kind you like, as with an orgasm, for instance; negative intensity, the kind you don’t like, as with physical pain; and neutral intensity, where t ...

What worked for me, part II
2007-10-14 18:07:00
Part III hereThis is the 2nd installment in a short series of posts about "What worked for me." Part I can be found here. One of my biggest impediments to healing was a great surprise to me, my own beliefs. Are your beliefs limiting your healing? Take a moment to answer the following polls. I came to discover that I thought I was answering questions like these correctly, but with the help of a skilled coach, I learned I was unaware of the true beliefs that became ingrained in my subconsious over a long period of time. How could I not even know what I truly believed? But I didn't, especially in the area of identity, and that stifled my ability to heal. Beliefs about Cause:Beliefs about Meaning:Beliefs about Identity:If you notice any limiting beliefs you hold, a process called Neuro-linguistic programming can help you change at the deepest levels. Therapists work with clients on how to change limiting beliefs, how to be congruent with what you want, and how to install a belief that ...
How Qigong Can Help
2007-10-10 05:24:00
I'm a big believer in many of the principles and values of Eastern Medicine. I've practiced Tai Chi and Qi Gong for several years and have found them to be strengthening and relaxing at the same time. The best thing for me was that, in the beginning, both exercises were easy enough to do even when dealing with chronic and painful health conditions, so I highly recommend looking into them if you haven't already. For more than 20 years Steven Sonmore has helped people transform health problems into solutions for attaining better health. He has a wonderful website and has plenty of experience working with fibromyalgia. Steven is a licensed acupuncturist, Qi Gong instructor, herbalist and Oriental bodywork therapist. He is licensed by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice and certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Please jump over to his health blog at http://comcblog.com for a great article on "How Qigong Can Help Fibromyalgia Suffere ...
Belief becomes Substance
2007-10-09 15:20:00
First, notice your beliefs."Who gets sick? How can we get well? Is illness simply a result of genetics and other physical factors, or does something else come in? Intuition? Spirituality? Your mind-set is the stage on which your health history plays out." Read the rest of this really good article here: Dr Judith Orloff, MD Next, recognize we have a conscious choice. Energy follows thought. We can choose to watch CNN, spend time with negative people, and let our minds run wild with worry, fear, and criticism. OR, we can choose to smell the roses, practice self-love, spend time with people who have it all together in a centered and relaxed way, turn off the TV and pick up an inspiring book. Let our thoughts be healing. Finally, really appreciating what we do have as opposed to what we want to have is critical in healing. When my mind is always on what can I do to heal, who can I turn to, what drug to try next, and thereby focusing on what I don't have, wellness is more elusive. It may se ...

Here are some reviews of two of the most powerful books I've ever read on healing (the reviewer's name is in parentheses and the reviews are posted on Amazon.com). Those of us who have used Dr. Sarno's methods successfully all believe the same truth, that healing the physical body can take place in the mind.John Sarno's book "The Mindbody Prescription" healed almost all the pain in my body. "The Divided Mind" has completed the healing: all my physical pain is gone. I'm not kidding. I know it's ABSOLUTELY INSANE that a mere book can cure body pain, OCD and skin problems. The cure is also INSANELY simple: all these problems are caused by the genius of our own brains. Unconsciously, we simply cannot bear to feel our repressed rage, fear, grief, sorrow, resentment and other emotions according to Sarno. So our brains, unbeknownst to us, invent various problems in our bodies, such as fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, tinnitus, chest pain (the doc said it wasn't my heart) OCD (ye ...
I'm curious about this
2007-10-02 17:17:00
Here's an abstract of a research study on the effects of women writing about past or present traumas: A study of patients with fibromyalgia who were randomised into a group writing about traumatic experiences, a control writing group, or a usual care control group, found that the trauma writing group experienced significant reductions in pain and fatigue and improvements in their psychological wellbeing at four months in comparison to the control groups. But by 10 months the benefits had disappeared. The idea for the study came from the observation that people with fibromyalgia report high rates of past trauma, and that writing targets cognitive and emotional processing (Psychosomatic Medicine 2005;67: 326-34)I'm just curious about this. I don't know the truth for everyone, but only from my own personal experience. It does make me wonder if anyone else makes the following connection:Taking the statement "what you focus on expands" and the results of this study, I wonder if all the ...
What worked for me, part 1
2007-10-01 09:42:00
Part II hereI've changed, but I've never directly written about what worked for me. This will be the beginning of a series of posts about my path to self-healing and wellness. There are two main areas of focus which led to being medication free and happy. The first was a journey of physical healing and the other was/is a journey to adjust my view of life, including understanding the power of the mind to heal. The most profound change in the way my mind works came from the teachings of Bill Harris. He founded Centerpointe Research Institute and created the meditation system I use called Holosync (more on how Holosync helped me heal in another post). The bottom line is before Bill, I was stuck in a lot of negative emotions and unaware of the destructive thoughts running in the background of my life all the time. Enrolling in his Map of Reality online course exploded my ideas towards just about everything! The result has been that I'm living a life with more joy, more wellness, and most ...

Check this out at PsiTec:"There are NO incurable diseases.Hard to believe isn't it? Perhaps that demonstrates just how much medical information we are bombarded with telling us the exact opposite. In How To Stay Well, author Christian D Larson argues that any disease comes from the violation of one or more of the laws of life. And, therefore, it can be cured only by bringing mind and body back again into harmony with those laws that have been violated.Mr Larson presents a complete and practical system of life, through which the new view of health may be realized. It is a system that will enable anyone to get well and stay well no matter what their physical or mental condition may be at the present time."Be well.(wellness fibromyalgia)BE WELL. ...

"Something big shows up in your life, as a result of this tension. Could be a bankruptcy, that's on the subject of money. But it could be a physical breakdown, which is also on the subject of resistance. So whatever it is, it got bigger. And now you have a manifestation. A real life manifestation. A diagnosis in your body. Or something. And what we want to say to you in a way that you will really, really hear it, know it, feel it, and benefit from it, is: that manifestation, big bad and awful as it may seem to be, is only an indication of vibration. Period. It's not a death sentence. It's not a proclamation of how good you are. Or bad you are. It is not anything more than just the extension of indicator of how you have been offering your vibration. You don't go to the gas station with your indicator on your gas gauge on empty and have a sort of emotional meltdown, then putting your head on the steering wheel, "I had SO hoped for MORE!" It's just an indication. You’re feeling reall ...
Affirmation Schmaffirmation
2007-09-26 18:14:00
I've read all kinds of new thought books about positive thinking and affirmations. We all have negative emotions and some of us struggle with affirmations because we're doing battle by attempting to drown out that negative thought. Yeah right! If your subconscious mind is fighting what you are saying, you're not going to get very far. What has helped me is to just become more aware of my thoughts and to slowly train myself to pause before reacting to a negative situation. We can't go through life just saying "everything is Great!" and ignoring overwhelming and constant pain. Our power lies in the choices we make every moment about how we will respond to things that are happening to us and thoughts we are thinking. If you notice that the thoughts swirling around in your head are negative, and really notice what you are saying to yourself, you can begin the healing process. I remember thinking how I would never talk to another human being the way I talk to myself. It took me a while bu ...
