Is Berkshire Hathaway a Buy at $111,000?
2007-07-16 09:44:01
When I first read this article, I wasn't sure what to think about it. Joe Ponzio took a very subjective approach to valuing Berkshire Hathaway and for that I think he is at least following Warren Buffett's methodology.
As Buffett himself has said, "You are neither right nor wrong because the crowd disagrees with you. You are right because your data and reasoning are right."
Joe Ponzio shows us that shareholder equity for Berkshire has grown roughly 8.8% a year over the past ten years and that it has a net worth of $108.4 billion. Fr ...

Mixed Reaction to Whole Foods Message Board Fiasco
2007-07-16 09:30:55
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the recent behavior of John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods. For those of you not familiar with the whole story, Mackey thought it would be a good idea to post to an anonymous stock message board about Whole Foods, the company for which he is the CEO, protected only by the anonymity of an anagram of his wife's name.
Why is that wrong? Well, have you ever heard of Regulation FD? He didn't go through the proper channels to release news to the public. And, releasing information to pump up your sto ...

NYSE-Euronext - The Reverse Cramer Effect
2007-07-13 18:41:12
I really like this article. I think Cramer is out of his head. I don't mean that in a totally negative way because he is absolutely brilliant. He has just been caught wavering on so many of his "fundamentals" that it isn't funny. He tells us to do one thing, then in a few months he tells us the exact opposite.
Now, usually when Cramer picks a stock, especially his stock of the year, you get the "Cramer Effect" and the stock starts moving up. While I am probably the biggest fan of NYSE/EuroNext, I think he was completely wrong to tell ...

Stocks Rise - S&P Sets New Trading High
2007-07-13 18:32:30
NEW YORK (AP) -- Wall Street ended an extraordinary and record-setting week Friday by surging higher again, sending the Standard & Poor's 500 index past a trading high set in March 2000 and thrusting the Dow Jones industrial past 13,900 for the first time.
Both the S&P and the Dow logged record closes for the second straight day and the Dow's new trading high put the blue chip index within about 70 points of 14,000. But the technology-laden Nasdaq composite index showed more modest advances in Friday's session and remained far from its r ...

2007-07-13 17:12:03
PAE found its trendline in late June, and was gradually riding it upward until it finally broke out over the last two days. The RSI(14) has crossed above 50, and the DMI/ADX has turned bullish. (see the entire story at http://trade4cash.blogspot.com/2007/07/chart-of-week-pae.html) ...

Cramer Insists on Alcoa (AA) Takeover in 2007
2007-07-13 16:39:35
Since then, Jim has been quoted many times as saying that Alcoa (AA) will not be public by the end of 2007, and now that Alcoa (AA) has retracted its bid for Alcan (AL) and Rio Tinto (RTP) looks to be Alcan's true acquirer, Alcoa (AA) may well be acquired by the end of this year.

Jim Cramer Turns Positive on Energizer Holdings (ENR)
2007-07-13 15:34:14
Jim Cramer has recently turned positive on Energizer Holdings (ENR) as one of his 80 to 100 to 120 stocks. That is the emperical observation that typically stocks in this bull market that make it to 80 are winners and then power their way to 100 and eventually to 120

Iron Condors: Being neutral in a bullish market
2007-07-13 07:24:30
The truth is, it takes guts to be perpetual contrarian. But on days like yesterday we're glad to be neutral, that is to say, we're glad to be in iron condors, because we can benefit from the upside, without having to worry whether everything will come crashing down tomorrow. Both of our primary positions this month are still well within their protected range, and by sucking the volatility out the markets yesterday, this rally has positioned us to take in that last bit of theta over the weekend. ...

Cramer Buys Whole Foods Market (WFMI) High and Sells Low
2007-07-12 16:52:22
Apparently this has been Jim Cramer's stategy for trading Whole Foods Market (WFMI) stock: Buy High, Sell Low. Lately, he has been consistently negative on the stock after being burned by a long stretch of disappointing quarters calling the stock a "bearish story" citing multiple contraction and slowing growth.

Cramer Misses Big Gain in Rio Tinto plc (RTP)
2007-07-12 15:53:58
Viewers of Mad Money would have missed a gain of 48% in Rio Tinto (RTP) by the time it was recommended again in May 2007, but if they had swapped into RIO as Cramer had recommended, they could have captured an even more impressive gain of 56% in just four months.

Stocks Surge on Retail Sales Reports
2007-07-12 10:10:52
NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks surged Thursday, carrying the Dow Jones industrials into record territory as investors gleaned positive consumer spending trends from retailers' June sales reports.
A new bid for aluminum maker Alcan Inc. added to the upbeat mood on Wall Street, which drove the Dow up more than 100 points to a new intraday high.
Though retail sales on the whole appeared to be crimped last month by higher gasoline prices and a tepid housing market, a few reports beat Street expectations -- notably that of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the ...
