XM Satellite Radios CEO Calls It Quits
2007-07-25 10:17:27
XMSR fell $0.65 (5.2%) to $11.90 in trading Tuesday as XM Satellite Radio announced its Founder and CEO Hugh Panero will leave in August, regardless of whether XMSR's proposed merger with rival Sirius gets regulatory approval. Panero will be replaced on an interim basis by XMSR's current President and COO, Nate Davis.
This comes as quite a shock as he had agreed to stay in until the merger was complete, in which time Mel Karmazin of Sirius was going to take over as CEO. ...

Countrywide Profit Sinks
2007-07-24 11:20:28
Countrywide, the largest U.S. home lender, said losses on certain loans to more creditworthy borrowers contributed to a 33% drop in second-quarter net income. They slashed 2007 earnings outlook on expectations of "increasingly challenging" housing and mortgage markets.
Countrywide's shares fell $2.56, or 7.5%, to $31.50 in recent trading, after earlier falling to a new low of $31.10. This year through Monday, the stock has been down about 19%. Meanwhile, credit-default swaps tied to Countrywide bonds, used by investors to bet on the comp ...

Sirius, XM a la carte plan isnt very appetizing
2007-07-24 10:46:59
I don't know if Tom Bemis doesn't get it or is being paid to write this article. He focuses on the anti-competitive nature of the merger, but brushes off the fact that satellite radio competes against a variety of other delivery platforms, including "terrestrial" radio, the internet and personal music players. He mentions the fact, but only to dismiss it completely. I think the proposed plan shows their commitment to making sure that it isn't going to become a monopoly. While I agree that there is obviously the fear that once they merge t ...

Time to Get Market Neutral
2007-07-23 22:24:20
Our market outlook is very weak. Stocks in general look overbought, both in technical terms and in terms of fundamental valuations. Internal breadth, price trends, and higher sustained volatility all suggest that even if we are not entering a new period of significant market weakness, the bullish party may be well over.
And as you know, when one party ends, there's usually another beginning somewhere else… ...

He also discussed this weeks earnings reports and gives us some advice for each day this week:
Monday: Buy TXN, his favorite semiconductor, if there is a decline after the report. He suggests selling some NVDA, which is up 6 points, and would buy some back if ...
