Arbys parent may bid for Wendys

Billionaire investor and major Wendy's shareholder Nelson Peltz said that his restaurant company, Triarc Cos., would be prepared to offer between $37 and $41 a share for the struggling hamburger chain, roughly a 10% to 22% premium to Wendy's closing price of $33.69.

Wall Street found a foothold Monday as investors, still anxious that a credit crunch could crimp U.S. growth, took advantage of low prices after last week's steep losses. The Dow Jones industrial average surged more than 90 points.

ADM, Tyson produce in spite of corn prices

ADM, the largest US ethanol producer, said its net quarter profit more than doubled to $955m, $1.47 a share, from $410m or 62 cents per share in the year-earlier period, primarily due to a $616 after-tax gain in asset sales. Analysts were expecting 59 cents a share, according to Reuters Estimates.
ADM said higher corn costs and lower ethanol sales led to a $45m dip in its corn business's operating profit, down 15.7% to $241m from $286m in the same period last year.

Second Quarter Earnings Heatmap

The guys at Bespoke has another great article for us. That have broken down Second Quarter earnings into two heat maps. The first highlights companies in the S&P 500 that have beaten, missed or reported inline earnings per share this quarter, and the second shows how well they did on the first trading day after their earnings report.
It looks like even the stocks that beat estimates were beaten down. This gives us an opportunity to get in while the stocks are cheap.
