Bass Pro Shops Opens Tonight - 11/14
2007-11-14 13:56:00
The first ever New England Bass Pro Shops (Outdoor World) opens tonight in Foxborough! I can barely contain my excitement. There are very few retail shops out there that instill me with excitement whenever I go. Ikea is one of them and Bass Pro Shops is the other. I feel like a kid in a candy store. While you'll find a huge selection of outdoor gear, Bass Pro Shops stores are also part museum, art gallery, antique store, aquarium, education, conservation and entertainment center. The Grand Opening is set for Thursday, November 15th but a special "Evening for Conservation" to help benefit area conservation groups will be held on Wednesday night, November 14th beginning at 6 PM. This exciting, celebrity-packed event is free and open to the public.Curious about the description? Bass Pro Shops are like Swiss Army Knives. They've got everything. Hehe. You'll just have to see it for yourself. What am I most excited for?A cave structure surrounds the aquarium, which will be stock ...

Avril Lavigne Concert Presale Password
2007-11-13 08:49:00
Hey, hey, you, you, I don't like your girlfriend (I think I used too many commas). Anyway, if you're into teeny bopper music, Avril Lavigne is coming to the Verizon Wireless Center in Manchester, NH on April 13, 2008 and I have the presale password.Presale starts Today at 10am (in about 10 minutes) and ends on Friday 11/16 at noon. Get your tickets before the general public. I've always wondered if these presales really help with getting better seats, or if they're just a scam to make me THINK I'm getting better seats so I think I'm special and subsequently buy the tickets.Click (here) for the link to LiveNation. And then use the presale password "guitar"Lastly, come back here to this post, and leave me a comment to let me know if you were able to score some good seats. I won't be going to this concert mostly because I'm still getting crap for going to the Hilary Duff concert from months ago. Apparently, I'm too old to be listening to this type of music.Know of Any Int ...

The Lonely Maiden Filming Starts Today
2007-11-12 14:55:00
So I hopped into a cab this morning to head to the airport and right around the financial district area, I started seeing those neon green cardboard signs with big black letters on them. I'd seen enough of them this summer to realize this meant they're filming a movie somewhere nearby. So my cab turned onto Summer street, headed into the Seaport District, and lo and behold more neon signs with arrows. The signs bore the letters "LM." I was racking my brains.....perhaps they're doing a "Last of the Mohicans" remake? Well after a little poking around, I've discovered that the movie is The Lonely Maiden. Filming starts today and stars Morgan Freeman, William H. Macey, and Christopher Walken (here)."Maiden," written by Michael LeSieur ("You, Me and Dupree"), centers on three museum security guards who have become attached to the artwork they've watched over for decades. When they learn their beloved pieces are to be transferred to another museum, they concoct a scheme to "steal" th ...

Gipsy King Tix On Sale Tomorrow - 11/10
2007-11-09 09:46:00
The Gipsy Kings are coming back. I feel like they were just hear at the Bank of America Pavilion a month or two ago. Regardless, they're awesome so if you're a fan and want your pick of the seats at their next concert, then this is a friendly reminder that tickets go on sale tomorrow 11/10 at 10am EST.At this rate, I'm going to be sitting in front of my computer for the first few hours of my Saturday morning. First Gipsy King tickets at 10, then Dresden Doll tickets at noon.If you're not sure if you've heard the Gipsy Kings before, you have. They're music shows up in background music for tv shows and movies fairly often. Here's a lil tidbit from wikipedia: Gipsy Kings are a group from Arles and Montpellier in France. Their parents fled from Spain during the Spanish Civil War. Dresden Dolls Tickets On Sale Tomorrow - 11/10
2007-11-09 09:33:00
I've never actually listened to the Dresden Dolls, but I do like how they get all dressed up as part of their act. I remember a year or two ago, they played at the Paradise Rock Club near BU and there was a huge crowd of fans dressed up as well. It's always cool when you really love a band and can really get into their performances.I wiki'ed them since I don't know much about them and learned two things. First, they're from Boston - which gives them +12 to their coolness factor. And then there's this little tidbit:They describe their style as "Brechtian punk cabaret", a phrase invented by Palmer because she was "terrified" that the press would invent a name that "would involve the word gothic," and are part of an underground dark cabaret movement that started gaining momentum in the early 1990s.So tickets go on sale tomorrow, 11/10 at noon EST at Ticketmaster. They're concert is going to be at the Orpheum Theatre on Dec 29, 2007 (7:30 PM).As usual, log on at 11:55am tom ...

How To Dress Like Celebrities
2007-11-08 11:10:00
I read GQ, and I read Esquire. I see what celebrities wear, and there's no way I could ever afford that type of clothing (nor would I ever spend that much money on clothes). But I've got something better for you and way more affordable: T-Shirts.Say goodbye to Kitson and hello to Collegehype. First and foremost, apologies to Bloggery reader Rebecca who emailed me about this two weeks ago. It took an article in the Globe to really kick me in the butt and get me writing.Collegehype is local so their t-shirts mean a lot more to us than that stuff at Kitson (which caters to the Los Angeles celebrity crowd). Collegehype's shirts were: used in Ben Affleck's recent movie Gone Baby Gone, ordered and worn by Curt Schilling during the 2004 playoffs, and most recently worn by Kevin Youkilis (YOUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuk) after our recent 2007 win.Click (here) read the Globe article. And when you're done reading, click (here) to start shopping.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events T ...

Cellphone Service + The Big Dig
2007-11-08 10:26:00
All I can say is that it's about time. When I had to switch to AT&T, from Verizon (for work) I was bummed out. My verizon phone used to get reception everywhere. AT&T not so much. One of the biggest issues I had was driving through the Big Dig. Whether going to and from a meeting, or shuttling clients to and from the airport: I couldn't have a phone conversation if I was downtown because I know I'd be cut off. Now, with the federal clearance, four large wireless companies have told officials with the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority that they will install the equipment in stages, beginning in about two weeks. The project, which could cost up to $7.6 million, will be paid for by the carriers and be completed within three to six months, the companies said. These estimates are never accurate, so I'm just hoping by this time next year I'll be able to talk on my phone while driving through the Big Dig.Click (here) to read the Globe article for yourself.Know of Any Interesting ...

November is Alzheimer's Awareness Month
2007-11-07 11:12:00
I recently found out that one of the members of my extended family has Alzheimer's. I didn't hear too many of the details, but it's really quite sad to think about what he must be going through: not being able to recognize family members, and even having trouble putting sentences together as words have begun to fail him. With November being Alzheimer's Awareness month, I'm sure you'll all see inklings of it in the news. Don't ignore it. If someone you know is showing symptoms, it's important to encourage them to go for a memory screening test so that at least you'll know early.November 13th is National Memory Screening Day, you can click (here) to find a facility that carries out screening tests. And also get some memory and successful aging tips from the Alzheimer's Foundation. The important thing to recognize is that Alzheimer's Disease is NOT a normal part of aging. People always joke about senility being just a part of getting old. Just because you're getting old t ...

Tom Brady In His Underwear?
2007-11-07 09:51:00
Wow, so I guess this is third hand gossip, but I'll share anyway; because I'm sure there's someone out there that's interested. According to The Globe, In Touch Weekly (one of those celebrity gossip magazines) is reporting that Tom Brady is in talks with Calvin Klein to become their next celebrity underwear model.Apparently Brady is now cashing in on his fame and signing up for endorsements left and right. He also has deals going with Movado and Glaceau (think vitamin water). While Brady is undecided, In Touch says his supermodel sweetheart, former Victoria's Secret gal Gisele Bundchen, supports the idea.I'd rather see Gisele in her underwear. Click (here) for the Globe blurb (you have to scroll down a bit). Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com ...

Back Bay Luxury Office Building
2007-11-07 09:39:00
Just what we need. Something to make Back Bay more expensive than it already is. Developer Ronald Druker submitted a proposal today for a new nine story luxury office building. The new office complex is to replace the current Shreve, Crump & Low building on the corner of Boylston and Arlington.According to the proposal, it will be designed by famous architect Cesar Pelli and will be home to: underground parking, a fitness club, a restaurant, retail space, and offices. Expected occupants of the offices? International bankers, hedge-fund managers, venture capitalists, law firms. In other words: $$$$$.Druker only does high end, so expect rents to be sky-high. Among Druker's portfolio are: Heritage on the Garden, Atelier|505, and the Colonnade Hotel & Residences.See below for an artists rendering of what it could look like. Or click (here) to read the article in today's Globe.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownbl ...
